During the period July - September 2013, Malta University Consulting Ltd. held a course on 2D and 3D modelling using AutoCAD. A number of participants, from various sectors including architecture and engineering, attended fhe course. Participants acquired skills on how to generate and plot professional detailed drawings and how to create 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models. They also had the opportunity to see a live demonstration of how a 3D CAD model can be physically produced using Rapid Prototyping. The course was delivered by Dr Ing. Philip Farrugia, who was assisted by Mr. Michael Attard.

GRADUATION
Twenty-three students successfully completed the Residential & Day Care Workers Course organised by Malta University Consulting Ltd. during the academic year 2012-2013. The Graduation Ceremony was held at Dar l-Ewropa, Valletta on the 17th
October 2013.

MALTA UNIVERSITY PUBLISHING
During the period August - September 2013, Malta University Consulting Ltd. held a course on Stained Glass. The course was delivered by Mr. Joe Meilak.
STAINED GLASS COURSE
On Sunday 10th November 2013, an old University event was revived in the form of a Ring Road Fun Run/Walk & Relay, or-
ganised by MUHC during the Open Day of Discover University. Half the proceeds from this event will be donated to Hospice
Malta.
An individual 5km run, 2km run/walk, 5km relay (teams of 4) and 800m children’s fun run were held. A total of 111 partici-
pants took part in the day’s events. Prof. Juanito Camilleri—University Rector—officially set off the 5km run joined by Pro-
Rector Prof. Alfred Vella, Dr. Joe Cassar, shadow minister for education and Mr. Fernando Docampo, Chief Officer of Middle-
sea Insurance p.l.c. The Rector then participated in the 2km walk, joined by MUHC Director Peter Baldacchino. Joe Azzop-
ardi, MUHC Group CEO, completed the 5km run. MUHC Director & University Secretary Simon Sammut joined three other
University employees—Dr. Ing. Anton Bartolo, Tonio Mallia and Christian Bonnici–in a relay team. Other MUHC staff who
took part in the events were Alexia Pace Kiomall—Manager Consultancy Services (relay), Corinne Vella—Director of Studies at
MULS, Kata Vizi– MULS teacher, Marlon Grech—Assistant Operations Manager at MUR, and Clive Azzopardi—House Assis-
tant at MUR (2km). There were also a number of University staff and students who took part in the various events.
All finishers were given a commemorative medal, while overall and University winners were awarded trophies. There were
also prizes for the best fancy dress costume for a child and adult. A raffle was also held which gave all participants present at
the Awards ceremony the chance to win a weekend break at Hotel Kappara, a study voucher from ICE Malta and other spot
prizes.
The next edition of the Ring Road Fun Run/Walk & Relay is scheduled to be held in March/April 2014 (the exact date will be
announced soon).

DR. ING. ALEXIA PACE KIOMALL

Alexia Pace Kiomall is a mechanical engineer by profession, having graduated
from the University of Malta in 2006. She then went to work in the manufactur-
ing industry, but returned back to the University shortly after, following the
award of an MGSS scholarship, to read for a Ph.D. She spent another 5 years at
University working on her postgraduate studies in the area of product design with
a focus on biomedical device design. She was involved in a national Research &
Innovation project funded by the Malta Council for Science & Technology, the
results of which have been the filing of 2 patents. Following this, Alexia then
worked for 3 years as a Consultant at Malta Enterprise, in the areas of Product &
Process Development, and Intellectual Property Management, consulting SMEs.
Having the Technical, Research & Industrial background, Alexia’s role at MUC is
to link University academics, researchers and lab officers with industry helping
them to collaborate in projects together. She is responsible for Consultancy and
Lab Services.
Alexia, has spent many of her summers doing voluntary work both locally and
abroad with the Sisters of Mother Teresa in Egypt, Italy and France. However,
now she has other priorities as a wife. She has been married for 6 months, to
Derek who also works at University.
