The Beat Goes On… A message from Dr. Jim Lambert, Chair
Summer 2013
Greetings from the Cameron University Music Department!
Please accept our annual communication of musical goodwill to you reflecting the activities of our Cameron University Music Department during the past academic year—2012/2013. This 2013 Newsletter represents a collection of current activities, the achievements of our alumni who have responded to our 2012 Newsletter and an updated and
continued listing of our Cameron University Music Alumni and Faculty—including some of our Music Faculty’s activities this past year. We want to keep you informed about our music activities and events, and we also want you each to feel welcome to attend them in the future. The Cameron Music Department has been quite active in the past academic year, and I hope you were able to either attend or feel connected with some of these outstanding performances. Having completed more than five full academic years since my appointment as Chair of the Department of Music at Cameron University, I am delighted either to correspond with many of you or to email you with our department’s renewed vision of collective ownership, opportunity, and outreach. As a Music Department, we also embrace our fourfold University Mission which is: 1. to provide a diverse and dynamic student body access to quality educational opportunities; 2. to foster a student-centered academic environment that combines innovative classroom teaching with experiential learning; 3. to prepare students for professional success, responsible citizenship, life-long learning, and meaningful contributions to a rapidly changing world; and 4. to be a driving force in the cultural life and economic development of the region. Toward the achievement of these collective vision, goals and mission, Cameron’s academic motto reflects our department’s dynamic interest and investment in each student through “Every Student, Every Story.” This academic motto was coined under our Cameron President Cynthia Ross who announced her retirement effective June 30, 2013. Our new Cameron President will be Dr. John McArthur, who has been the Provost at Cameron University.
Summertime is an opportunity for each of us to reflect upon the past year’s achievements and to renew our connections with our friends, constituents and alumni, and we want all of you to be fully aware of our music activities here at Cameron. To that end, we continue to publish this Cameron University Music Department Newsletter once a year (during the summer) and also have it posted on our music department webpage (www.cameron.edu which can be accessed through Cameron University’s webpage). If you graduated from Cameron and studied music here, you are one of our partners in ownership of our music program at Cameron. If you live close to us, we want you to feel welcome either to attend or to participate in our university or community ensembles. Even if you don’t live close to us now, we want to hear from you and know what you’re doing at the present time. We have heard from many of you, but please take the time to mail back to us an enclosed information card which will provide us an update on your activities! You will find in this Newsletter condensed input of what we have received from many of you during the past year. We’re proud of all of our Cameron Music graduates, and we are continuing to provide a listing of them in this Newsletter! As you know, Cameron University’s Department of Music possesses a very talented, highly-skilled faculty, an energetic, enthusiastic student body, and a supportive, loyal set of alumni and constituents who embrace our university’s mission. Please email me, phone me, or contact at our mailing address if I can be of any further assistance to me regarding your university, Cameron University!
