Article for this week

A man who grew up without a dad, created a

youtube channel teaching kids to do basic things

as well as how to use tools etc.

Word of the fortnight:

Fervent

Positivity and Well-Being

We know that the lockdown has gone on for longer than we all

anticipated, and especially now that the sun is out, it feels a little

harder.

It is important for us to stay in good routines, sleeping and eating well, as both of these are key in making us feel positive. It is also important to interact with family and friends outside of the house in a safe way, avoid doing this by text message or social media, instead hear their voices by calling them, and see them by video calling.

Lockdown is a new experience for us all, and during uncertain times we can forget about the positives in our lives, and start focusing on the negatives instead. This is pretty normal. However after a while we do

need to remind ourselves of all the positives for us to feel happy, safe and confident again. If you are feeling this way, try the ‘How many positives can you think of?’ activity. A message from Ms Johns: “It's alright if you're coping and it's alright if you're not. Things will change and think how wonderful it will feel when we feel safer and can enjoy the things we are missing”

Why should we read?

Reading is important because it develops our thoughts, helps us to learn and understand about a range of differ-ent things and it also makes us smarter.

Warren Buffett, arguably the greatest investor of our

generation, perhaps even in history, puts his success

down to one key factor; ‘go to bed a little smarter each

day’. And you do this by doing what Buffett does every

day: Read. A lot.

Learn A New Language

Ms Ofer has highly recommended this free app to learn

new languages . Learn a new language with your friends

and try having a conversation by the end of the first week.

Let us know how many new words you

learnt, and how long you could converse

for without speaking in English!

Eid Celebrations

The first weekend of the half term was a new experience for Muslims across the world, they celebrated Eid in lockdown, without being able to meet as many family and friends they would normally have celebrated with.

We know this must have been very hard for many of our students too, but the positive side to this was, that those celebrating got to spend quality time with those living in their own households.

Poetry Competition — Deadline 12th June 2020 at 3:00pm

Entries to be emailed to [email protected]

“Poetry is the sound of words in your ears, it’s the look of poets in

motion and that can be you. Make your poems sing, whisper, shout

and float. Let the words make the rhythm and give the viewers a

buzz to see you.” Michael Rosen.

We are running our own TFA Poetry competition, to enter you

need to write a poem on your own personal lockdown experience.

This is about you, for example you can write about how you have

spent the time, the feelings you have felt throughout this period,

and the things you look forward to doing once this is over.

Below are links for inspiration—remember this is for inspiration

only, your poem is about your experience:

from her to: “No doubt it wasn't the same as normal, but

don’t worry we have another one in 2 months!”

One key ingredient for any fun celebration...is cake!

Hope you all had a different but fun Eid. Ms Mayet.
