Principal’s Report
End of the year events It is always amazing how quickly the end of the calendar (and school) year
creeps up on us. Of course this is a very busy time for many people; schools
and teachers being no different. They are asked to write reports, finalise
AusVELS scores for students, complete any testing that is occurring, and
complete many administrative, curriculum and welfare based tasks. In an
attempt to pace ourselves, the following school events will occur over the
last five weeks of term:
November
December
Best wishes

Principal’s response to media claims:
The school was made aware of the presence of fragments of asbestos sheeting in a pile of dirt and fenced off the area shortly
after 9am on 8 October.
The area was fenced off when it was raised with the school by a parent.
The school called the Department’s asbestos contractor shortly after.
There was a delay in response from the asbestos contractor.
The cause of this unacceptable delay is now being investigated by the Department.
Some soil, from the area where the asbestos fragments were first found, was moved by students to another part of the school
grounds. This soil was tested and no asbestos was found.
All soil where building debris containing asbestos was found has been removed by certified asbestos removal contractors.
These works were supervised by an Occupational Hygienist who performed air quality monitoring throughout the works to
ensure safety. Importantly, no airborne fibres were detected.
The school continues to fully co-operate with the investigation, which the Department will seek to finalise as a priority.
Importantly, the site is now safe for our students and staff.
Any asbestos that was present posed a very low risk – no higher than exposure to normal background levels of asbestos
fibres. This assessment of risk is consistent with advice from the Department of Health and Human Services.
Yours sincerely
Karyn Simes-Martin

Please note there is a new canteen menu starting this Term.
The baked potato and pumpkin soup are being replaced with a multi-grain salad wrap or
salad bowl. A new, printed, canteen menu is going home with the youngest child this week.
Just a reminder also that hot dogs are only being sold on FRIDAYS.
New Canteen Menu
Just a reminder that this term we are having ‘Nude Food’ on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Please remember to try and bring the least amount of rubbish on these days. High fives to
you if you can bring a lunch to school with NO rubbish!
This term, Wednesdays are also ‘Walk or Wheel Wednesday’. Grade 6s will be collecting
data on the number of students that walk, ride a bike or scooter to school. If you park
further away than normal and then walk, this also counts as walking. The winning class
(based on the percentage of students that walk) will be presented with the golden shoe!

Cakes can be delivered from 3pm on Friday 13th or Saturday 14th from 11am till midday to the BER
Building (Grade 5 & 6 area)
