Week 1

Hello, rst day of college down! It was a short day we had a meeting at half 9 this morning in the international oce and they gave us all the information like our email address our log in details etc and after that we got shown around the main areas around in college. The college itself is about the same size as L.I.T so we should be able to nd our way around easily enough. We were shown to the room where we will have our classes for the following few months. We met our tutor rst, Suzanne Clermonts who was waiting for us to arrive. She's young artistic and cool and she’s in a well known band in the Netherlands called Krause! She specialises in music and media marketing. All our new class mates started to arrive then one by one we introduced ourselves – it’s a pretty small class of only 14 excluding us.We were told what projects they were doing in the class and if we wanted to be divided into the groups that were already in the class or if the 5 of us wanted to be in our own group. We decided to go in a group with the 5 of us because some of the work the other groups look very dicult and don't think we would be up to their standards and expertise. After the introduction and learning about the projects we left the Art ‘n’ Sound room to have a look around the dierent work studios in the college and outside the college with all the equipment we can use to do our projects! Gameship was a larger studio outside the college we got to view; it had every type of equipment you needed from creating producing and editing music to lm to creating motion capture to large green screen areas where you could stream live footage. I personally found the motion capturing the most interesting as I’ve heard about it before but have never seen the equipment used to capture it before.

Introduction day- as some of the students were missing the previous week, Suzanne, our teacher designated this Monday for us to do a presentation on ourselves and to show the other students some of the work we have done. I was a bit nervous even though it was only about me, and I couldn’t possibly forget anything. We also met our mentor Gerjan Kilder who was out the rst week. We go to him if we have any problems throughout the following few months. After our presentations we met up with the other group doing the future of Leeuwarden project also and they told us more about it and gave us the project description and goals the clients want us to achieve. The assignment is to an audiovisual work to create an exhibition that will take place in June 2012 in the city of Leeuwarden. The audiovisual work can be anything: a movie, a happening, a video clip, a party, a work of art, an installation, VJ visuals, wild-arm, video, mapping and more. The premise of the audiovisual work: "What Leeuwarden in the future and imagine this" There are three areas where your work can be focused. Namely: - Living & Life (environmentally, architecture, inhabitants) - Knowledge & Economy (business, labor, education) - Culture & Leisure (arts, leisure / activities, diversity) within these three areas must rst be investigated. They are on the research stages, looking into the history of Leeuwarden, Leeuwarden in the past, present and the future. After the meeting we had a better idea where to start on the project.Suzanne called our clients for us to set up a meeting with them later on in the week so we would even have a better understanding again what is expected from us for this project. On Thursday we met with Sjoerd Bootsma and Bouke Green, two of our clients who are in charge of Toekomstlab Leeuwarden. They told us to do as much research as we can on Leeuwarden, to get out around the city and to get a feel for the place. That was our work for the next few weeks until we have enough knowledge on the city to develop a couple of concepts for the assignment.

The college system here is very dierent to home it makes a student very independent, you email a lecturer if you want help or to be thought about something in particular you are having trouble with. You have to be motivated to learn in this college. But in conclusion, I’m really enjoying mytime here so far and the minor we have choosen. I can’t wait to get stuck into ourproject, and to see what happens next!
