NOTICES FROM THE OFFICE “Request for Parent Payment (Booklist) 2019”
Thanks to all the families that have already paid. As we have purchased all items in bulk for the children, this payment would be appreciated asap. Last day for payment is February 28 2019.
If you are experiencing financial difficulty, please phone the office to make an appointment with Gavan.
Agreement 2019
Please return all agreement notice to class room teacher or the office.
Dear Families Leadership: We are currently in the middle of the appointing our student leaders for 2019. The acceptance of the position is the easy part. We have these positions to further develop the leadership capabilities of the children, encourage ownership of their school and the people in it and to improve our school. At times these roles will present challenges, failures and successes- this is part of anyone’s development. Road Closure: Road works will be undertaken on Wednesday 26th and Thursday the 28th February this week in Fairview Ave. The street will need to be closed at the corner of Pakington street. We have been advised that all parents will need to drop off/Pickup children on Huntingdon St instead. This is a great chance to either walk to school with your children or park a few blocks away and enjoy a walk and talk with your child/ren. Fair– Spinning Wheel: A big part of the Fair is the amazing Spinning Wheel hampers. The baskets of goodies are both eye catching and sought after. We need your help to fill these baskets. If you are able to support this part of the Fair a list of items for each grade to donate is located on page 9 of the newsletter. A red tub will be placed in each classroom to place your donations in or in the baskets at the office Thank you for your help. Thank you to Yoko, for taking up this role. Fair Sponsors: We are so fortunate to have the support of so many businesses for the various stalls, auctions and our sponsor packages. The following businesses have supported our school and its children. If you have the opportunity please express your thanks to them. Stall Rosters: We now have in place managers for all the stalls BUT they now need all families to sign up to work on a stall on the night. We have 280 families so the filling of slots should be no problem. Our school and chil-dren are the beneficiaries of our work, so let’s get on line or send in a hard copy of your availability.

Feedback from parent/teacher interviews: As part of an ongoing review of the operation of the parent teacher interviews, both from a process point and an educational view, we are seeking Parent Feedback. If you have any feedback on the interviews could you please email the school or drop a note in. We will improve if we all supply thoughts on the positives and areas of improvement. Throughout the year we encourage families to talk to their child’s teacher whenever necessary. Simply contact the teacher to arrange a mutual convenient day/time. Cross Country: Next Tuesday our future Olympians take on the cross country challenge. All details of the day, time venue etc, have been distributed. Take the opportunity to join us and cheer on our students. School Council elections: Nominations close this afternoon at 4 pm. Retiring Councillors may reapply for the 2 year positions. Every year half the elected group “retire”. This ensures the induction of new Councillors is made easier. Please contact the office for more details. Chilwell’s Got Talent: The roster is currently full however you can still enter on a waiting list and Suzie and Victoria will do their very best to accommodate all requests. We thank Suzie and Victoria for their time to organise this event at the fair.

‘Traditional Foods, New Experiences’
Wednesday 13th
March
‘MoMo’ is a type of South Asian dumpling, popular across the Indian subcontinent and the
Himalayan regions of broader South Asia.
Over the past five years Chilwell PS has been actively celebrating Cultural Diversity through
artworks, many being presented at the Multicultural Celebrations at Federation Square in
Melbourne. Now we are turning our focus to food! With many students at Chilwell from different
cultural backgrounds, we have a diverse range of foods on display at recess and lunchtime. We
would love to promote this wonderful diversity and give all students the opportunity to sample
some wonderful dishes from around the globe.
This term, on Wednesday 13th March, The Taste of Tibet will set up its stall at Chilwell and every
student will be given the chance to sample a ‘momo’ dumpling. There are beef and vegetarian
options. These momo’s are free of charge (one per student) thanks to the successful grant we
received from the Victorian Multicultural Commission.
Then during lunchtime, students are able to purchase more momo’s. Cost of additional momo’s
are 3 for $5 – students to bring money on the day. No pre- ordering.
There are no nut products.
We would love parent volunteers from 1.15 to make this run well.
Full ingredients will be listed in the newsletter next week.
Please contact the school only if you do NOT wish for your child to participate in the
tasting.
Please see Deb Fisher for more details.

My name is Imogen Hall, 5NR and I’ve decided to take part in the World’s Greatest Shave on March 15 at Assembly. I would like to help raise money and awareness to try and find a cure for blood cancers. Did you know that 35 Australians are diagnosed every single day with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma? I’m aiming to raise $1000 which will assist with research into better treatments and cures for blood cancers. The money raised will also provide support services including accom-modation, transport and educational programs dedicated to the care and cure of patients and families living with blood cancer. If you would like to sponsor me please go onto the World’s Greatest Shave website (www.worldsgreatestshave.com), press sponsor and search Imy Hall. Thank you so much and I hope you’ll be there to support me at assembly.
SAND PIT TOYS
Our sandpits are hugely popular play areas currently and the kids are being creative and using lunch containers as their sandpit toys. If you have any spare or unused sandpit toys at home you might like to donate please see Louisa or Scott.
Chilwell P.S. Outside School Hours Care
This week we are encouraging the children to think about ways in which we can Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!!! This is a topic the children can incorporate into their everyday lives both here at School, OSHC and at Home. We have a paper Recycling Bin for scrap paper where unwanted papers are put and the children are encouraged to reuse this paper for art & craft, paper planes etc. We also have a Worm Tub Barrel that has been kindly donated to the school that we are looking at using for all our after-noon tea fruit and vege scraps that will become compost for the garden beds around our school grounds. We encourage all families to look at ways in which you too can adopt this within your homes to help save our environment .eg. nude food lunch boxes, using your 3 garbage bins correctly Red = Rubbish, Yellow = Recycling, Green = Garden Waste.
All families wishing to use OSHC in 2019 are required to fill out a 2019 Registration Form or re-enrol with up to date details and pay a once off Non Refundable $10:00 Registration Fee per family (not each year of enrolement) and a $50:00 per child Refundable Bond (not each year of enrolment) that the parent may claim by sending a written request with bank details at the end of using the service to [email protected] Once confirmed all outstanding accounts have been paid the Bond willl then be returned to the parents nominated bank account. If you are using this service and have not yet paid your bond per child you will see in the next couple of weeks that these Bonds have been added to your account.
If you are not receiving your correct amount of CCSS rebates you may need to log in to your myGov account and check your child is currently enrolled by confirming your usage. The new system automatically ceases an enrollment if the child has not used this service in any 8 week period and we are required to re-enrol the child/ren and the parent needs to confirm this in their myGov account as I am unable to do this.
The Department of Human Services are encouraging all families to review their income to ensure they are receiving the cor-rect Child Care Subsidy percentage and have sent out this note:
Dear Families
It has been seven months since the new Child Care Subsidy started! It is a good time to check in on your family income esti-mate. Make sure it is up to date and reflects your and your partner's income for the whole financial year.
If your estimate is lower than your actual income, you may get a debt, which you will have to pay back. It is also a good time to check and update your activity test if your circumstances have changed.
The easiest way to update your family income estimate is by using your Centrelink online account through myGov, or the Ex-press Plus Centrelink app.
While you are there, do not forget to make sure your and your partner's activity details are up to date too.
Thanks – Cheryl & OSHC Staff
