Dear Families, Cross Country: Last week's Cross Country once again demonstrated the

terrific sportsmanship and endeavour displayed by our children. The children always try to give their best in both academic and non academic endeavours. This was commented on by many parents and friends who enthusiastically supported our competitors. Thank you and congratulations to Mr Blackall, staff children and supporters

Swimming Carnival: Congratulations again to our team who competed in

the Primary School’s Swimming Carnival last week. The traits noted above were again on display at the carnival. The support of families was also very much on display and appreciated.

Food Fair: With only 2 weeks to go we are humming. The weather has been

booked, the rides are in place, managers are excited, rosters are filling (if you are not on one then contact your manager or the school and get involved!!!!), posters are up. Now we just need the crowds to come and enjoy the evening together.

Letter box drop: What a great way to get fit and enjoy our community. We

need people to drop off a flyer in letterboxes inviting our community to join the fun. If you are able to do this drop into the office and pick up some flyers. Don't forget to bring along friends and relatives and it will give all of us an opportunity to "show off" our school to others.

Stranger Danger: A few weeks ago I reminded all to have the discussion

with our children of the good habits when moving around our community and in the wider community. Children need to be aware of the dangers that exist out there, how to report incidents and what to do to keep safe. We have school rules which aim to achieve this. The aim is to arm the children with strategies and to trust their feelings without scaring them and causing unnecessary stress.

Weekend works: Over the weekend we undertook some necessary

maintenance on trees in the grounds. Two were removed due to age while the trees outside the South wing were trimmed.

Easter Eggs: Over many years our community has donated Easter Eggs

which have been distributed via "Meals on Wheels". I realise this comes at a very busy time, Food Fair, etc. but the eggs are very much appreciated by the elderly recipients.

Birthdays. Happy birthday to the following students who will be

celebrating their birthday next week.

Regards, Gavan Welsh, Principal

Did you know? Eye testing is bulk billed and 1 in 4 students have vision problems that have an impact on their learning. If you have not had your child’s vision tested, it might be a great opportunity to do so sooner rather than later so they continue to thrive at Chilwell PS.

Parent Contribution. A reminder to parents that this payment was due Monday 29th February. Thank you to the families who have already paid this.

Congratulations to the following students who received an award for Getting Along

Our You Can Do It focus this term is Getting Along. A good way to practise this skill is by being nice to everyone and making sure your friends are happy and having a good time. Don’t forget, if you see someone sitting on the Buddy Seat, go up to them and invite them to play. - Lulu and Sarah- YCDI Committee Leaders.

On Friday the 4th of March Chilwell sent 24 excited swimmers to the Bellarine and Geelong North Division Swimming Championships at Kardinia Pool. For many this was to be their first swimming carnival and all were keen to do well.

Overall our swimmers should be very proud of what they were able to achieve with all recording personal best times and many collecting placing’s in events. Michael Rudd had a great day collecting a first in the backstroke, second in the freestyle and a second in the free relay team, Chloe O’Brien in the backstroke and Daisy Bain in the breaststroke each collected second places while Tegan Line freestyle and Eden Nadorp-Goddard backstroke placed 3rd in their events.

The relays again proved to be very exciting with the boys 11yr team collecting a second placing while the girls 9/10 and 11yr teams swam strongly to collect 3rd. A special mention must be made of Vaughan Pendlebury efforts to swim the butterfly leg of the boy’s medley team. Each school can only enter one boy and one girl team. As the youngest boy member of our team Vaughan swam with great determination and courage to complete his leg and ensure the team was able to finish well. Jack Jelenko also showed great courage to compete with a recently diagnosed foot injury. Jack was a member of the successful relay team.

All our swimmers should be proud of what they were able to achieve and how they conducted themselves on the day. It was pleasing to see how they supported and encouraged each other during the day. I would like to thank the parents who helped on the day with timekeeping and supervision to and from the venue. These events are not possible without such wonderful support.

Chilwell Cross Country 2016 Last Tuesday the Barwon Valley Fun Park was transformed with students from grades 3-6 competing in the Chilwell House Cross Country. There was chanting, students dressed in red, yellow, blue or green, parents and friends cheering and supporting and some sizzling times were recorded.

The weather was kind, our House Captains showed terrific leadership and our students were wonderful. Everybody competed to the best of their ability and can be very proud of their efforts. All students who competed were awarded points for their House.

In the end the results were : Bareena fourth with 118 points Marnock third with 150 Balyang second with 162 points and Riversdale winning with a final score of 182.

Special thanks to the parents and staff who helped out on the day. Your support in; marshalling, timing, scoring, officiating, taking photos and administering first aid for our runners was fantastic. Particular thanks must go to the parents and staff who were spread along the course. The encouragement and support provided by them to the students whilst running is of vital importance. It ensures that we have constant visual contact with the students and the moral support they provide is invaluable. Without this assistance sporting events of this nature would not be able to occur. Peter Blackall, PE Teacher
