From the Principal ~ continued Preparations for ANZAC Dusk Service Once again our students will be joining with the students of NBIS to form a joint choir for the ANZAC Service on Friday evening, 25th April, at the San Remo Club. The choir has already started practising and there will be a joint practice with NBIS next week. Grade 4/5/6 Trip to Numundo On Wednesday of Week 9, the Grade 4/5/6 class visited the Numundo Cattle Ranch as a part of their study of Industries in PNG. The enjoyment derived from this visit was clearly evident on the faces of the students when they returned to school. Many thanks to the Numundo manage-ment for allowing the trip and for being so welcoming.

Term 1 Reports As is our normal procedure, the Term 1 Interim Reports will be given out at the beginning of Term 2. There will be an opportunity to discuss student progress at the Three Way Conferences in Week 5 of Term 2. The reports are not given out until Term 2 as some senior school assessments take place in Week 10 of Term 1. Grade 12 Fundraising for trip to Lihir and Rabaul The Grade 12s are organising another dance at the San Remo Club to raise funds for their upcoming edu-cational excursion. The dance is aimed at adults rather than school students and there will be a larger number of security personnel in attendance this year. Musical Presentation Our school will be performing a musical based on the biblical story of Joseph and his multi-coloured coat in Term 3 this year and auditions are being held this week for the main characters. Fortnightly BBQ Our teaching staff are holding a BBQ on Friday afternoon from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm, every pay fortnight. Should any parents or friends of the school be around at that time you are all very welcome to join us. The BBQs are aimed at raising funds for staff to go on another overseas educational trip. The trip to schools in Brisbane in 2011 had a lasting influence on our teachers, particularly those who had never been out of PNG previously. Week 10 Assembly Our Week 10 Parent Assembly will be hosted by the Senior School. If you are able, please join us on Friday, April 4th at 1.00 pm to see what the Senior School is doing. End of Term Holiday Term 1 ends on Friday, April 4th. Because Easter weekend falls at the start of Term 2, students will not return to classes until the day after Easter Monday - Tuesday, April 22nd. This gives a holiday of two weeks and a day. The Wednesday and Thursday before Good Friday will be Teacher Only Days. Please ensure that students return to school on the 22nd of April.

Welcome To The Grade 9’s Corner Welcome to our corner!!!This term the grade 9’s have been busy with a lot of tests and assign-ments. Grade nine is definitely challenging for us but we’re ready to face the obstacles. Here’s what some students have to say about our subjects this term.

Mathematics During the past weeks we have been learning how to solve problems involving inverse proportion and direct proportion. This week we started a topic—indices. The topic has been challeng-ing but exciting. We are also happy to have our new Math teacher, Mr. Ghate, who re-cently transferred here from Goroka International School. By: Gerea Banagea

Science This term in science we have covered two topics so far; Ecology and Working Scientifically. In Ecology, we have looked at the biotic and abiotic environment, Communities and Nutrient Cycles. This week we designed our own experiments, un-der the topic working scientifically. We learnt a lot of things in these two topics, and are looking for-ward to do our own experiments with the help of our class teacher Mr. Chamilou. By: Trudy Wulai

Personal Development In PD this term we have learnt about self esteem, others, and influ-ences. We are currently learning about what makes up a good relation-ship and what makes up a bad relationship. E.g: Good Relationship = Honesty, trust, loyalty, respect, etc... Bad Relationship = dishonesty, unfaithfulness, distrust, etc. By: Delda Aro

ICT Our focus this term on ICT has been on computer basics. So far we have covered the basic computer terms and are now learning how to manage files, and have done four assessments to cover the topic this term. It’s been fun and easy learning throughout this term and we know next term will be the same. By: Hazel Meredith

English In English this term we’re studying different types of text. We’ve also learnt that text can be written, visual or spoken. Basically we have been looking at literary text. Literary texts are made up of five elements. They are character(s), set-ting, style, plot and themes. Films, novels, short stories, plays are examples of literary texts. By: Leighlanie Bubner

Agriculture In agriculture we have been focusing on the different farming systems in P.N.G. Below are examples of farming systems: *Mixed Farming *Pastoral Farming *Ranching *Nomadic Farming By: Jordan Tumba

Social Science Mr. Korerua has been teaching us a lot about the history of PNG and its neighbours, the other Pa-cific Islands, and colonization. Here are some interesting facts we learnt: *The Pacific was the last place to be colonized because the countries were scattered far and wide. *The word, Colonization, is derived from the Greek language which means “settlement”. *PNG was colonized by four different countries before it became independent in 1975.
