NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2016 ECO GARDEN Welcome back to the new school year and a special ‘hello’ and ‘welcome’ to all our new pupils in the school and the many new boys and girls attending the Nursery. There are 21 in the Nursery at the moment and enquiries for another 2 to enrol over the next couple of terms. The Primary 1 children have settled in very well and are already sharing their learning progress at Assembly on a regular basis. Everyone did brilliantly on the sponsored walk and several adults have commented on the great behaviour and really positive vibe coming from everyone. Well done. As we approach the October holiday, I hope everyone has a lovely break and gets geared up for the non-stop term that leads up to Christmas – we have lots planned already! Judith MacLeod, Acting Head Teacher Pictured are some P2 pupils at Golspie Primary School who planted seeds in their school eco garden as Primary 1 pupils and were proud to dig their crop of vegetables in Primary 2! They enjoyed watering, weeding, digging, and eventually cooking their vegetables into a soup that their P1/2 classmates thought was delicious. The children are grateful for the help with planting from Anne Barclay and Lesley Cranna. The school would also like to say thank you for the generous donations from Sharon and Michael Hope from the Nisa in Golspie and from the Golspie Gala Week to help develop the school eco garden. Thanks to them there will be many more crops to come! Remembrance Day Primary 4/5 will be selling poppies during week beginning 7 November 2016. It is hoped that the whole school will take part in a short Remembrance on 11 November at Golspie War Memorial. Parents are more than welcome to join us.

OCTOBER 2016

ECO GARDEN

Welcome back to the new school year and a special ‘hello’ and ‘welcome’ to all our new pupils in the

school and the many new boys and girls attending the Nursery. There are 21 in the Nursery at the

moment and enquiries for another 2 to enrol over the next couple of terms.

The Primary 1 children have settled in very well and are already sharing their learning progress at

Assembly on a regular basis. Everyone did brilliantly on the sponsored walk and several adults have

commented on the great behaviour and really positive vibe coming from everyone. Well done.

As we approach the October holiday, I hope everyone has a lovely break and gets geared up for

the non-stop term that leads up to Christmas – we have lots planned already!

Judith MacLeod, Acting Head Teacher

Pictured are some P2 pupils at Golspie Primary

School who planted seeds in their school eco garden

as Primary 1 pupils and were proud to dig their crop

of vegetables in Primary 2! They enjoyed watering,

weeding, digging, and eventually cooking their

vegetables into a soup that their P1/2 classmates

thought was delicious. The children are grateful

for the help with planting from Anne Barclay and

Lesley Cranna. The school would also like to say

thank you for the generous donations from Sharon

and Michael Hope from the Nisa in Golspie and

from the Golspie Gala Week to help develop the

school eco garden. Thanks to them there will be

many more crops to come!

Remembrance Day

Primary 4/5 will be selling poppies during week beginning 7 November 2016. It is hoped

that the whole school will take part in a short Remembrance on 11 November at Golspie

War Memorial. Parents are more than welcome to join us.

SCHOOL LUNCHES The new Highland Council Primary School Menu is attached. This menu will run from after the October holidays until Easter next year. Please keep this in a safe place and discuss the options with your child.

Seashore Visit

P2/3 enjoyed a trip to the beach as

part of their Seashore topic. We

enjoyed exploring the rock pools for

crabs, searching for shells and making

sandcastles. The weather was

glorious and we had lots of

fun! Thank you to all of the parents

who came with us.

NURSERY STAY AND PLAY

We had great fun in Nursery when

our mums, dads and grannies came to

Stay and Play. We did jigsaws, read

stories and played in the house

corner. Thank you to everyone who

came along. See you next time.

ROALD DAHL CLASSIC NOVELS We recently sent home a sheet in pupils’ schoolbags offering a pack of 15 Roald Dahl classic novels for the reduced price of £20.

If you are interested in this offer please order through the school office by Friday 28 October 2016.

Please remember to make sure your child has a waterproof jacket and waterproof shoes

with them in school for outdoor activities, e.g. “Mile a Day”.

Book Fair

At the recent Book Fair the total sales were £602.05. This means the school will be able to choose books to the value of £361.23 from Scholastic. Many thanks to the P6/7 class for running this event.

TRANSPORTING YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL

If you bring your child to school by car please use the parent car parking area at the bottom of the brae. The children should be encouraged to use the designated paths from the parental car park to the play areas.

DON’T FORGET!

The School and Nursery closes for the October holidays on Friday 7 October 2016 at 3pm.

The School and Nursery re-opens to pupils on Monday 24 October 2016 at 9am.

NURSERY PARENTS Please ensure you walk your child on the path around the back of the school and down the school hill using the ‘red’ path as this is what is encouraged for the older children. We do not use the grassy hill as there have been too many near-misses with cars on the road. Thank you.

QUEEN’S 90th BIRTHDAY The children of Primary 5/6 wanted to be part of the Queen’s birthday celebrations. As a class we decided to make cards and send them to Buckingham Palace. We enjoyed making the cards and sending Her Majesty our personal messages. However, ` we forgot to write our address on the envelope and assumed we would not hear back. Last week we were very surprised and delighted to receive a message back thanking us for our good wishes. The children were all delighted and amazed to read her reply!

Dunrobin Sponsored Walk

Last week in a moment of dry weather the whole school enjoyed a pleasant and fun-filled walk out to the shore at Dunrobin. Here is a very quick snapshot of all the pupils just before we set off back to the school. To date we have raised over £500 in sponsor money for the school fund. If you have any outstanding sponsorship money to give us, please send it in as soon as possible. Many thanks to all those who raised the money; we have already spent over £100 of this on additional maths books and some yoga movement activities.

Super Swimmer! Massive congratulations to Elise (P7) who has achieved 4 District Regional Programme swimming times, giving her the chance to train with professional swimmers. At the recent national competition in Stirling she won 5 gold medals and a bronze for butterfly, front crawl and backstroke. We look forward to hearing about Elise’s continuing success – definitely a national talent to watch out for!
