View this email in your browser Newsletter October 2018 Dear Members of the Waterborne Community, The various organisational bodies of the Waterborne TP have been working on numerous issues over the past couple of months. First of all, the IRAGs have been working on the missions and visions towards 2030 and 2050. The Board and the Secretariat have been in close contact with key European stakeholders to discuss the draft Strategic Research Agenda, as well as the inclusion of the Waterborne sector in the Horizon Europe programme. In addition, we started to prepare to organisation of a Waterborne conference at the beginning of 2019. And finally, a number of meetings will still be conducted before the end of 2018. Newsletter October 2018Dear Members of the Waterborne Community,

The various organisational bodies of the Waterborne TP have been working on numerous issuesover the past couple of months. First of all, the IRAGs have been working on the missions andvisions towards 2030 and 2050. The Board and the Secretariat have been in close contact withkey European stakeholders to discuss the draft Strategic Research Agenda, as well as theinclusion of the Waterborne sector in the Horizon Europe programme. In addition, we started toprepare to organisation of a Waterborne conference at the beginning of 2019. And finally, anumber of meetings will still be conducted before the end of 2018.

Over the past couple of weeks, the Waterborne website has been restructered, modernised andupdated. Besides information available on the former website, new sections have been added,like the sections containing information on the members of the Waterborne TP and theorganisational structure. Besides, the website offers the possiblity of obtaining all documents ascurrently developed. In case you would like to add your organisation as a member of theWaterborne TP to the website, or update the information displayed, please be so kind to contactthe secretariat.As a second initiative, communication material regarding the Strategic Research Agenda iscurrently being developed, which will become available on the website as well.

Stakeholder outreachSince the development of the Strategy Research Agenda nears its end, over the past couple ofweeks a number of key stakeholders have been approached to establish first dialogues. Thesestakeholders were both the European insitutions, rivercommissions, as well as other technologyplatforms and members of the Waterborne sector. In September, exchanges of information havetaken place with:

European Commission - DG Move;European Commission - DG Clima;Secretariat of the Central Commission for Navigation on the Rhine;JPI Oceans;Europêche;Office for European Programmes of Dutch Waterway Authorities;European Aquaculture TPI;Representatives of the Inland Waterway Transport Sector.

In the coming weeks, a number of other meetings are foreseen, like for example with DGConnect and DG Energy.

Horizon 2020 - Call for ProposalsRecently, the European Commission published the call for proposals for the 2019 agenda of theHorizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme (Smart, Green and Integrated Transport). Anumber of topics are of interest for the Waterborne Community:

LC-MG-1-8-2019: Retrofit Solutions and Next Generation Propulsion for WaterborneTransport;MG-2-6-2019: Moving freight by Water: Sustainable Infrastructure and InnovativeVessels;MG-BG-02-2019: Ship emission control scenarios, marine environmental impact andmitigation.

The European Commission will organise a virtual Horizon 2020 Infoday on 23 October from09:30 onwards. Besides, ECMAR will organise a Maritime Brokerage Event and Technology Day on 11 and 12October 2018 in Brussels.

Horizon Europe 2021 - 2027In June, the European Commission proposed a budget of €100 billion for research andinnovation for the period 2021-2027. Horizon Europe will be the biggest ever research andinnovation funding programme. The Commission’s proposal is part of the discussions betweenthe European Parliament and the Council on the overall budget to finance the EU’s activities inthe period 2021-2027. The European Commission hopes that these discussions will beconcluded before the elections of a new European Parliament in May 2019. As aformentioned, the Secretariat and the Board of the Waterborne TP are in close contact withthe key decision makers at EU level (EU Commission, European Parliament and Council) toensure the Waterborne Sector will get proper share of the Horizon Europe enveloppe. On 8October, the European Parliament is organizing a public hearing, which can be attended inBrussels or online.
