Page 2: Newsletter October 2018 Paris, KY 40361 603 Millersburg Road … · New business the question was asked "What can we do to give back to the community?" It was brought up that the

President, Sherry Schneider opened the meeting with a funny little story called "Quilters Last Will and Testament"

Thank you Jackie Gabbard, Kathleen Wireman and Eilene Stewart for the seasonal decorations and delicious snacks.

We have two new members. They are Lori Jackson and Tracy Jacoby. Welcome!!

The UK Raffle Quilt was won by Dianna Jones from Bourbon County.

Treasurer's report was given by Mary Pochadzay. Beginning balance was $2210.38. We gave the church $100 for al-lowing us to use the facility for the quilt show. We took in $477.00 from raffle tickets, admissions to show and dues. New Balance $2587.38. Door prize money is $22.56

We had 136 quilts and wall hangings exhibited at our quilt show and we heard a lot of nice comments about the show. Excellent was one of those words.

New business the question was asked "What can we do to give back to the community?" It was brought up that the Little Rock Christian Church was making bunk beds for needy children. It was suggested that we send money to help buy mat-tresses for the beds. Other projects brought up was the Back Pack Project, Operation Food Basket, PAWS and The Well. It was voted that we should send $200 to Little Rock Christian Church, $100 to Back Pack Project, $100 to PAWS and $100 to The Well. and $100 to Operation Food Basket.

Quilter's Candy Retreat at Blue Licks State Park is Oct. 31 - Nov. 3 and Pine Mountain Retreat is Nov. 7 - 10

Information will be given by Sherry Schneider about ordering shirts for the Guild at the October business meeting.

Pictures for the Photo Directory will be taken at the October business meeting.

December 7th will be a sewing day at the BC Extension office. There will be no quilting retreat the 3rd weekend due to Christmas events.

Dec. 8th at 12:00 will be our Christmas Party Potluck. Bring a side dish and an ornament ( value $ 10 or less) for the Dirty Santa Game. Can be handmade or purchased with no tag. If you would like to play the LRC game bring 3 polka-a-dot fat quarters. We will also play a game of LRC for charity, if interested bring 3 - $1 dollar bills.

The program was provided by Tina Seevers who demonstrated "Nancy Mahoney's EQ Series #7 . The computer program takes a block and resizes, helps organize and helps with color pallet. Thanks Tina!

We concluded the meeting with a beautiful "Show and Tell". Respectfully submitted,

Ginger Hafer, Guild Secretary

***** Just a reminder ---- If there is no school in Bourbon County, there will not be a Nifty Needles monthly meeting. If there is no school in Bourbon County, we may still have a monthly sewing retreat if the extension office is open. You may call the extension office and check the status for that day and please use your own discretion if you want to drive in inclement weather.

HAPPY FALL!!!!

Well It has finally arrived – fall that is. Cooler weather, chili, football games, and hopefully more sewing time because there is not as much we have to do outside. And, of course with fall, the holidays are right around the corner. I have started my Christmas shopping and I am almost done. I have been so late on so many things that I am trying to get ahead of the game now however, I am not sure that will ever happen.

Our Christmas party this year is planned for December 8 at noon. We will talk about our plans for food at the October meeting so we have time to plan our menu. We have decided to do polka dot fat quarters for our left, right, center game and to also do (3) $1 bills for our left, right, center charity donation. If you haven’t played this game it is a lot of fun and hope you can join us. We are planning to have several door prizes and we al-ways have a barrel of fun. We will also be doing an ornament exchange. The ornament can be hand made or purchased with a value of around $10. Please have it wrapped or presented so that it cannot be seen. We want the element of surprise. We will be playing our “Dirty Santa” game for the ornament exchange. We have several new members and several old members that have not been able to attend our Christmas party and I hope with changing the date, you will be able to make it.

A new year also brings another new change in our guild as Mary Pochodzay has agreed to be your president next year. I think she will make a great president with all of our support. She is organized, optimistic, and has great plans for our guild. She is always one step ahead of everything. With that being said, the other new change for our guild is Cheryl Royalty will fill Mary’s shoes as treasurer. I also think she will be a great treasurer and all of these changes will work “seamlessly”. LOL

If there are any programs, techniques, or anything you would like to see or demonstrate please let us know so they can be incorporated into next year’s plans. Thanks for all of your continued support and hope to see you at the next Nifty Needles function.

HAPPY STITCHING!!!

. Sherry
