Mrs Debra Walls | Principal The Power of Prayer…

Music is a signifi cant part of our lives and enables the refl ec on of many and varied experiences to be shared with each other. Each of us has a story to tell and our own challenges to face and yet there is a commonality to our experiences that draws us together. A sense of helplessness or doubt is part of the journey of life, but it is how we turn from that moment that sets the understanding for who we truly are in Christ.

Many mes the hymns and songs we sing are like prayers, evoca ve and powerful expressions of our hearts longing for

peace and strength. Centuries ago Mar n Luther, a German Professor of Theology and a signifi cant fi gure in the protestant reforma on, said of the Bible – “this is the gospel”, and of a hymn book, and “this is how we remember it”.

A hymn that I actually remember from my High School days was one wri en by Joseph Scriven, a man who experienced loss and grief. Grandparents' Day / Junior School Music Night

Thank you to all our grandparents and College families who came to enjoy the Junior School Musical performances. The students shined on the day and used their talents to give glory to God.

To our students, Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for man.” Well done Junior School. You certainly achieved this.

A special thank you goes to our talented Music team: Rebecca McKeown, James Leonard and Sophie McCarthy, plus our dedicated Junior School teachers and staff . Also to our set up team Di Power, the Green Team and the Student Support team. It really does take a whole community to put on something like this. Thank you all so much.

Behaviour Management – Term 4

As part of our commitment to close partnering with our College families, we have introduced a wri en no fi ca on system for both posi ve and nega ve student behaviour for Term 4. This will be a whole Kindergarten - Year 6 Junior School system.

We want to make it easier to let families know what is happening in the classrooms and playground.

With nega ve behaviour, parents tend to only hear when behaviour escalates. We would prefer you to know earlier, giving you an opportunity to assist your child in making good choices. Likewise, so many of our students are excelling, giving their best on a daily basis. We want parents to know, so you can celebrate with them, encouraging them to con nue making great choices.

We believe this wri en system will assist with be er communica on between the College and home.

Students who receive a behaviour slip for nega ve behaviour, will usually bring it home on the same day that an incident has occurred. It will be signed by the classroom teacher and the Head of Junior School. It will have stated what occurred and the consequence given. You will be able to discuss the behaviour with your child, sign the slip and return it to school the next day.

Posi ve behaviour cards do not need to be signed and returned. The students will be so proud that their posi ve eff orts have been no ced.

We are always looking for ways to ensure eff ec ve College/home communica on and excep onal standards in our classrooms and playground. We so appreciate your support as we roll this out in Week 1, Term 4.

Mrs Kerry Paterson | Head of Junior School Welcome to Week 9 Term 3

This week Junior School is focusing on “Loving our Enemies” from Ma hew 5:43-48. Imagine a world where this was lived out, embracing God’s way of loving all people equally. How can we at Green Point Chris an College embrace this biblical principle fully?

Our Bible verse is: Treat others as you want them to treat you. This is what the Law and the Prophets are all about. Ma hew 7:12

K9Secondary School News

Mr Peter McLellan | Head of Secondary SchoolI consider this week to be the most important for the life of the College this year. It is also the most hec c with so many diff erent ac vi es and farewells occurring culmina ng with gradua on. It is a me when we honour and farewell our Year 12 students whom many have been at the College for 13 years. They have grown up in our care and have matured into fi ne young men and women who will be leaving here to start the pathway into the next part of their journey. We will miss them and we are grateful for all the parents who have allowed them to be a part of our lives here at Green Point Chris an College. May our wonderful Lord bless and keep them in the years ahead. God bless you all.

Uniform

Many of our students are ending up on A er School Deten on because they do not wear their uniform correctly or wear the correct uniform. Some students have been changing their uniform once they leave home. Can I please encourage parents to make sure that their child comes to school with the correct uniform. It is unfair on every other student who does the correct thing if others choose to create their own uniform. We know that individuality comes from within a person, not from what they wear.

If you are unsure of the uniform please check in the Secondary School Diary for the full descrip on.

Year 9 Congratula ons

Carinya White was recently awarded the Australian Scout Medallion for Leadership Development. Carinya was responsible for heading up two trips to Cockatoo Island, leading a team and delega ng responsibili es to get tasks completed. Well done, Carinya.

The team now progress to the Quarter Finals, top 8 in the state. Congratula ons to the team.

Chess

The Central Coast Chess Championships were held at Wyong High School last Thursday. The College was admirably represented by Andre Gardiman, Joshua Bailey, Claire Li and Jesse Drennan. The students all achieved four wins out of seven to fi nish 17th, 19th, 20th and 23rd respec vely out of 60 students. Congratula ons to all.

Year 7 Aqua cs Program

As part of the Year 7 Physical Educa on Program, students will be taking part in swimming sessions at Erina Swim Centre, Term 4. They will a end four sessions during their allocated PE or PD class, travelling to and from the centre by bus.

The sessions will last approximately one hour each.

Trained instructors from the facility will teach the students a variety of water safety and survival skills, providing each child with a fun, safe environment to build their confi dence and ability.

On the day of their lessons, each student must bring to school their swimming costume (one piece for girls), a towel, and plas c bag for wet clothes. For the fi nal session, they must also bring an old long sleeve shirt and pants for a water safety survival lesson.

Please be advised of the following dates your child will be taking part in this program.

Mr Andrew McInnes | Head of Spiritual Development K-12

“ … you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8In Biblical Studies this term, our Year 10 students have undertaken a task that required them to explore the no on of forgiveness. Many of them have been able to see the benefi ts of both asking for forgiveness, and off ering forgiveness. Forgiving others is among the hardest yet most libera ng and necessary tasks we can undertake. Related to this, we some mes hear people say they might forgive others, but can never forgive themselves. This makes no sense. It is more accurate to say that we fi nd it hard to believe we can

be forgiven. When I say “I can’t forgive myself”, I am really saying, “I can’t believe God or anyone that I have hurt can forgive me”. Paul tells us we are mistaken to think this way (read Romans 8: 33-34). God has wiped the slate clean. Jesus’ death on the Cross has erased the guilt of our sin. We are no longer estranged from God by virtue of our trust in what He has done. If God no longer condemns us, why do we go around seeking to condemn ourselves? Why do we have this hunch that God forgives in a general sense, but is withholding forgiveness from us for that specifi c sin? Jesus, the righteous judge, is the only one who has a right to declare a guilty verdict over us. But instead He declares "not guilty" all those who trust in Him. If He does not condemn us, who are we to condemn ourselves? If He has extended forgiveness to us, who are we to refuse to claim it? Why not ask God if there is someone in your life that you need to forgive – and pray for the courage to step into that healing process.

“Heart 4 Service” Bronze Awards

Congratula ons to the following students for receiving a “Heart 4 Service” Bronze Community Service Award in recogni on of 20 hours of service: Inge Goosen, Year 9; Sasha Riggs, 4S; and Cameron van der Vliet, Elodie Riggs, Lauren Goodey, all from 5/6L.

Well done to these students for serving in our College and local community.

2016 John Lincoln Youth Community Service Award

Congratula ons to Aidan Morley (Year 12) who was selected as one of the winners of the 2016 John Lincoln Youth Community Service Award selected from The Order of Australia Associa on NSW Branch.

Aidan received this pres gious award at a presenta on ceremony from the Vice-Chancellor at Macquarie University. Aidan has served the College community and local community in numerous ways.

Well done everyone and thank you to our coaches Mr Wardrop, Mr Turner, Mrs de Lore, Miss Gourlay and thank you to all parents who assisted and encouraged on the day.

CIS Cricket Trials

On Monday, some of our keen cricketers travelled down to Blacktown to trial at the CIS Cricket Trials. These boys were Keegan Harvey, Julien Drogue , Noah Evans and Jasper White. They did a number of diff erent cricket drills, in rela on to ba ng, bowling and fi elding. They had a great day and enjoyed the experience. Unfortunately, Noah had to head home during the trials due to sickness.

Keegan Harvey was chosen to a end Trial #2, which had narrowed the star ng group of boys from 135 to 23. By the end of this second trial, Keegan was chosen in the CIS Team.

Keegan Harvey is the fi rst Green Point Chris an College student to ever be chosen in the Primary CIS Cricket team. He was in the top 12 players out of 135 boys who a ended. Congratula ons.

Green Point Chris an College Netball Club - Grand Finals 2016

What a wonderful season on the netball courts for Green Point Chris an College Netball Club this year. We had fi ve teams playing their hardest in the sunshine and each player and team brought their College spirit with them.

The 11D Dragonfl ies played against Apollo, showing their true spirit by playing a great game to the end and never giving up. Being undefeated all season, the Dragonfl ies went down to Apollo 19-31 and showed grace in their defeat, an impressive trait at this young age. It was all smiles on the balcony as they celebrated their season.

The 12B Firebirds played a cracker of a game against Central Coast Grammar School with the girls comfortably defea ng them 32-17 to take out their fi rst premiership. It was a great game to watch as we cheered them on.

On Court 20, the 13C Pearls put on a fantas c game for spectators with a e at full me. This meant extra me with two seven minute halves and the girls had to dig deep to con nue to play in the warm weather. With the cheer squad bi ng their nails and cheering even louder the girls came back hard and defeated Wyoming-Narara 32-27. A fantas c win.

The 17B Ambers played a hard and fast game against Kincumber - what a beau ful display of netball and skills. The girls had a convincing win over Kincumber with a fi nal score of 48-36. Well done, Team Amber.

Our Senior ladies team, Div10 Mussels, played it out against Wyoming-Narara. Having only beaten them once this season (Round 15) our ladies played well together and took out their third premiership in a row. Go Mussels!

Thank you to each and every individual, player, parent, coach, manager, umpire, commi ee member and supporter who has helped make 2016 great for GPCCNC and for our netballers, big and small. Mrs Suzie Morris, President
