I am very excited to have joined the Baton Rouge High School Foundation as the new Executive Director in March 2020. As you know, this year has been very challenging with the Coronavirus Pandemic. It has been interesting to start in the position of Executive Director during this unique time.

This year, we had to cancel all in person reunions and events that would normally bring alumni back to campus. We remain steadfast in our commitment to alumni and donor outreach and in bringing in generous gifts to support our students and teachers.

We are limited in meeting with people in person with so many alumni, do-nors, and friends. However, we have continued many efforts to reach alumni through personalized letters, notes and calls. We always welcome you to contact us, update your information, and connect on social media. We have worked hard to stay in touch with so many of you. You are all part of our family, and we greatly cher-ish our relationships with all of you.

While the pandemic caused the teachers to teach virtually for many months during 2020, the need to support students and teachers is still tremendous. The school purchased cameras and virtual teaching screens for teachers to use during this time. Technology is always a great need for Baton Rouge High School. This is certainly a unique and challenging time for teachers and students during virtual learning.

Technology is constantly changing and needing to be updated. Many donors support the Raising Our Standards Campaign several years ago. Generous donations helped the school support technology and many other needs during that campaign. This year, the school is surveying teachers to find out specific technology needs. The Baton Rouge High School Foundation hopes to use these needs to apply for grants and reach out to donors with specific technology needs.

We are excited to share that 6 plaques were recently installed at the school to honor those donors who collectively supported dedications of classrooms, a music practice room, and the orchestra office. This is a wonderful way to leave a legacy at the school, either as an individual, a group, a specific graduating class, or a business. If you want more information on this effort to dedicate various spaces on campus, please contact us at (225)456-6733 or [email protected]

Our Annual Meeting was held on November 11. While it was held differently this year with many peo-ple attending the meeting virtually due to the pandemic, the meeting had a lot of enthusiasm and excitement. We shared many accomplishments of the students in academics, arts, clubs, and sports. We are so proud of our Bulldogs. Your tremendous giving efforts help us to support so many needs and provide for necessary funds for these activities.

We will participating in Giving Tuesday this year. We hope to reach a goal of $3,000 in gifts during the end of the year. Could you consider a gift of any size this year to help us reach our goal and to provide for stu-dents and teachers? We are thankful and grateful for you, your classmates, friends, and family who make care enough to make a gift. Please know that all amounts help us.

Please give me a call or email. I would enjoy the opportunity to visit with and talk with our alumni. Can I share your stories and most recent accomplishments in the next newsletter? If you would like to volun-teer or help in our outreach efforts, please let me know. I am excited to join the Bulldog family and hear all of your wonderful stories and memories. We are all part of the Bulldog Family.

Throw Back to the 1920s 1925 Football Team

Hall of Fame Postponed Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the Baton Rouge High School Foundation has post-poned the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame will be held at a time when we can reasonably hope to have an in-person gathering to support the honorees. Nominations will be accepted in Dec. 2021 through March 2022 and the winners will be chosen by May 2022. Please be considering potential nominees who have made an impact in the community.

The Hall of Fame is comprised of former students, graduates, faculty and administrators that have made signifi-cant achievements in many aspects of their lives. They have made selfless contributions of time, talent and treasure to their neighbors and community. If a BRHS teacher or administrator, they have made a positive and measurable impact on students and campus life far beyond their assigned duties. They are accomplished at the highest levels of their professions. Hall of Fame members have represented and fostered well the ideals of giv-ing and dedication to community, family, learning and philanthropy. If you have any questions, please call us at (225) 456-6733.

  • Donor Match Challenges Joseph “Chip” Lyman, Class of 1960, match

We are pleased to announce we reached a donor match challenge by Joseph “Chip” Lyman, Class of 1960. Lyman

offered to match his donation over 3 years. The total pledges committed, including Lyman’s gift, was $45,000.

Lyman’s challenge was so very generous. While Lyman lives in California, he recalls great memories and friends at

Baton Rouge High School. Lyman was very accomplished on the golf team during his time at Baton Rouge High

School. In addition to the challenge, Lyman committed to a bequest that includes the Baton Rouge High Founda-

tion in his estate plan. You, too, can make a difference by joining together with other alumni and friends to support

the Baton Rouge High School Foundation.

    Stanford O. Bardwell, Jr. Memorial

Bill D’Armond has also been instrumental in helping the Baton Rouge High School Foundation accomplishing a

memorial dedicated to Stanford O. Bardwell, Jr. Numerous donors have collectively committed to $10,000 in pledg-

es to dedicate a plaque to Bardwell for a teacher work space. Bardwell was well-loved by his classmates, friends and

neighbors. If you want more information on programs to dedicate a teacher work room, music practice rooms, of-

fices or classroom space, please contact us at [email protected] or at (225)456-6733. By making a col-

lective gift, many people have the opportunity to join in an effort and support our students and teachers.

    Room Dedications

The Class of 1989 raised $25,000 for a "Class Years for Classroom" plaque, joining 8 other class

years in the halls of Baton Rough High School. They chose to have their plaque installed outside

their former classmate, Sarah O'Connor Kirkpatrick's English classroom. Pictured: Sarah Kirkpat-

rick '89 and daughter, Vivian, a junior at Baton Rouge High, outside of Sarah's classroom.

The Class of 1995 came together to raise $25,000 for the Class Years for Classroom program

to help support the students of BRHS. The plaque now sits among 8 other BRHS class years

and many other Foundation supporter plaques in the halls of Baton Rouge High School.

"Solid friends. Love for people and life. Staying strong and eliminating the negative," in

memory of Jeff Perry '95 (1976-1999). Pictured: Emma Perry, Jeff Perry's mother, with the

plaque that includes a portion of a poem written by Jeff.

Other room plaques dedicated this year:

    Class of 1967, math classroom

Dr. Kevin V. Mulcahy, orchestra office and music practice room

Classmates and friends of Byron Simpson, music practice room

If you are interested in your participating in this program to dedicate space at Baton Rouge High School, please contact Molly

    Sanchez, [email protected], (225)456-6733
