    Foundation Pentru Voi celebrates 15 years of activityFor the past years Pentru Voi brought approximately 3 Million Euro to the local community from grants andsponsorships for the bene t of adults with intellectual disabilities.

    It has developed unique social services for adults with intellectual disabilities and their families. At the moment it supports180 such families.

    It has developed a unique model in Romania of cooperation in the social eld - the public-private partnership with the Local

    Council and the City Hall of Timisoara through which the social services are nanced.It has internationally promoted the model in Timisoara through the visits of international personalities such as Her RoyalMajesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands in 2001, the Ambassador of Sweden, His Excellency Mr. Nils G. Revelius (2001),Baroness Emma Nicholson (2002), the Ambassadors of the Netherlands in Romania: His Excellency Mr. Pieter Jan Wolthers(2002) and His Excellency Mr. Jaap L. Werner (2005 and 2006).

    It has (won) brought the Great Award of the Civil Society Gala at Timisoara in 2008, and the Handinnov Award- for Innovationin Disability given by the French Presidency of the European Union in the same year. It was declared Model of Excellency inSocial Service Providing for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities by the Mental Health Institute in Budapest in 2003.

    It has actively participated to the creation of a legal frame in the eld of intellectual disability through lobby, advocacy and self advocacy campaigns (the law 448/2006 regarding the promotion of the rights of persons with disability, the UN Conventionon the Rights of Persons with Disabilities).

    It has published over 50 specialized materials in the intellectual disability eld, it has trained over 1000 persons throughcourses, seminars, conferences, and has informed and made aware over 100.000 persons about the problems of personswith intellectual disabilities.

    On the World Day of Down Syndrome, 11persons with DownSyndrome, bene cia-ries of the Pentru VoiFoundation met mister Zoltan Marossy, thesubprefect of the Ti -mis Area and Mr. Con -stantin Osta ciuc, thepresident of the LocalCouncil to inform them

    regarding the problems they have in getting a job.One of the obstacles in getting hired for the persons with intel -lectual disabilities is the Labor Code that forbids the hiring of persons under legal interdiction. Although the Prime Minister and the Labor Minister encourage work over social work, thepersons with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilitiesthat need judicial protection and want to work are denied thisright.

    Foundation PentruVoi, the Juridical Re -source Centre andthe Public Politics In -stitute organized inJanuary, in Bucharesta debate on the leg -islative de cienciesin hiring persons withintellectual disabilitiesand exercise of juridi -cal capacity in Roma -

    nia. The event was organized as a part of the project calledStop ignoring the persons with disabilities nanced by theCEE Trust and presented the conclusions of the two reportselaborated through the project, speci c statements of modify-ing the legislation and study cases.During the same project, a press conference was held wherethe video-statement Talk to the law so that I can Work on thesituation of a young girl with intellectual disabilities put under legal interdiction was played.

    Timisoara becomes aware of autism

    Over 300 people from Timisoara joined the Pentru Voi FoundationSaturday on the 2nd of April in the Opera Square in Timisoara tomark the International Day of Autism. A march was organized andover 150 people took part in crossing three of the most importantsquares in the city spreading 300 yers about autism and givinginformation about the signi cance of the day.

    There was a workshop organized of collective painting with theCloud Factory during which there were made 2 paintings of 10meach in shades of blue dedicated to autism. Dozens of faces werepainted in blue, 150 balloons were given away and the RomanianOpera in Timisoara was lighted up blue. At the event participated

    volunteers, bene ciaries, parents, representatives of the Rotary Club in Timisoara, Save the Children, The Volunteers Centre inTimisoara, the Beyond Words Association and citizens of Timisoara. The football club Poli Timisoara supported our cause duringthe game in the same day.Financer: Vodafone Foundation Romania.     In March the Pen -tru Voi Foundationparticipated in the

    rst meeting orga-nized as part of theEXCELNET projectthat sets up to supportthe integration of per -sons with disabilitiesin the working market

    in Romania.The project is started by the National Organization of Personswith Handicap in Romania(ONPHR) in partnership with Pentru

    Voi and 6 other organizations in the country.From the projects objectives we name the founding of 5 cen-ters of excellence where the persons with disabilities will bene -

    t from integration services and professional rehabilitation, as-sisting of 250 persons who will receive support for professionalintegration and informing over 250 employers on the scal andlegislative bene ts.

    Between 10 and 11 of March in Helsinki, Finland there was the5th general meeting part of the project Paths towards hiringcoordinated by the Vocational College Keskuspuisto Finlandand implemented by the Pentru Voi Foundation in partnershipwith the Gorseinon College in Great Britain, the Salva VitaFoundation in Hungary and the Vocational Rehabilitation Cen -tre Astangu- Estonia.The main purpose of the meeting was planning the summer school in Tallin Estonia (June 2010) that addresses the em -ployers and the external employees in order to hire personswith disabilities. The program has themes as: CSR, Diversityand creative ways of motivating employers; Technological ob -stacles in the hiring process for persons with disabilities; rais -

    ing awareness on disability; Introduction in mentoring abilities.On our behalf will attend 7 persons from which 2 representa -tives of companies in Timisoara that showed interest in thisissue - Continental Automotive and Nestle. We thank them andhope that this event will raise the hiring odds for persons withdisabilities on the free market.

    The year 2011 brought a new activity to the employees of thesocial enterprise Pentru Voi - the manufacturing of air fresh-eners caps for the Obrist Eastern Europe Company. This is anactivity that folds itself on the abilities of our employees- per-sons with intellectual disabilities, proving once more that theycan and that they want to work!

    Following the successful nalization of another activity for theFM Logistics Romania Company (Nov. 2010), the companycame back in January with another order concerning magnets-news that was received with great enthusiasm and pride bythe Protected Unit team that has proven its mastery in mak-ing these high precision operations: marking by dimensions,cutting pieces of magnet, cutting with a trimmer, counting andpacking. The activity was carried out with the support of the Ad-dcom Development Company, our raw material supplier.

    This spring welaunched new uniquecollections of trinketsand cards and we tookpart in the spring fair and the rst nationalfair of the social-eco-

    nomical structures inthe country organizedby the Labor Ministry.

    We are glad to have beside us our partners who constantlyhave orders for us because in this way even in times of reces -sion we can provide with stable working positions 41 employ-ees, persons with intellectual disabilities.

    The Social Enterprise Pentru Voi: new activities, new challenges

    15 adults with intellectual disabilities from the Pentru Voi Foundation had a new pro-fessional training: Plant cultivator. The course was held from February until April andhad theoretical classes as well as practical ones. In addition to support and easy mate -rials focused on visuals (images and pictures) and practical exercises, the bene ciarieshad the opportunity to learn how to plant and take care of vegetables and fruits.

    The course ended with an exam, the participants receiving graduating certi cated rec-ognized by the MMFPS. These certi cates will bring them one step closer to beingemployed.

    The day centre Ladislau Tacsi hosted in February a course for 27 professionals thatactivate in the eld of intellectual disability: Support focused on the person in the ser-

    vices for persons with intellectual disabilities.The event was organized in collaboration with EU professionals and is part of the projectcalled-Social Economy - a chance for persons with intellectual disabilities, co- nancedby the Social European Fund through the Operational Program for Development of theHuman Resources 2007-2013 Invest in people!.

    19 policemen from the Community Police, the Local Police and the Guards in Arad par-ticipated in the second seminar of this type organized by the Pentru Voi Foundationin the West of the country.We hope that the policemen and guards important social factors in the social inclu -sion of the persons with intellectual disabilities- will be more prepared to inform their colleagues about what they learned, to know how to interact with such a person. Theevent is part of the policemen education program from the South and West area thatwill last until the year 2012.

    Courses for persons with intellectual disabilities

    Study visits in Hungary and the Netherlands

    A group of 5 auto-representatives- persons with intellectual disabilities and 2 attendantsfrom the Pentru Voi Foundation participated in May at a 3 day study visit in Hungary.They visited the protected shops, the day centre and the protected homes from the EqualChancesFoundation in Csmr.

    That was a unique experience for our representatives- persons with intellectual disabilitieshired by the Pentru Voi protected unit- some of them have never seen before how the per-sons with disabilities work in other countries.

    This spring, the day centre Ladislau Tcsi celebrated 4 yearsof activity and the day centre Impreuna 15 years. The events

    were celebrated with thebene ciaries and the em-ployees who shared mem -ories about the construc -tion and opening of the two

    centers.The most awaited mo -ments for the bene ciarieswere the cutting of the cakeand the group photos.

    In March Pentru Voi organized a study visit requested by theKeystone Human Services International Moldova AssociationInclusive community Republica Moldova.

    Therefore, for a week, 5 KHSIMA specialists visited our unit,observed the services provided by our foundation and partici -pated at the presentation prepared by each department: hiring

    and protected unit, social services and complementary pro -grams, communication and event planning, lobby and advo -cacy.The study visit agenda was elaborated with the KHSIMA Mol -dova team in order to cover all the interest aspects for them.

    In January students fromsome of the high-schoolsin Timisoara entered the

    rst theatre contest of theyear. The event called Stepto the Stage was organizedby the students from theEntrepreneurship Master from the Faculty of Eco -nomics and Business Ad -

    ministration, was held at the National Opera in Timisoara andhad the purpose of supporting young talents as well as theactivity of the Pentru Voi Foundation by donating the pro tgained out of the ticket sale. We thank the organizers for sup-porting a charity cause in the most creative way!

    This year we will organize 2 national and one internationalsummer schools for persons with intellectual disabilities. Thethemes approached in the schools are various and include self knowledge, communication, emotion expression and work be-havior.There will be organized debates, role play, interaction gamesto form cooperation abilities and relationship. There will also beheld creative workshops, dancing nights, sports, hiking, walksand the traditional camp re.

    The events take place as part of the project called Social Econ-omy- a chance for persons with intellectual disabilities, co- -nanced by the Social European Fund through the OperationalProgram for Development of the Human Resources 2007-2013Invest in people!

    135 persons with intellectual disabilities participated in Febru-ary at the Young Employees Carnival organized by the PentruVoi Foundation on Valentines Day.

    The young men were involved in decorating the room, pre -paring the artistic program and surprises for the event. Therewere contests, games and artistic moments of the Pentru VoiGroup.One of the surprising moments was the folk concert given by

    Monica Izvanariu, who delighted us with beloved Romaniansongs.

    The young employees carnival The National Week of VolunteeringIn order to show our appreciation towards our volunteers andtheir activity in helping the persons with intellectual disabilitiesat Pentru Voi we dedicated the 9-15 May week to organiz-ing some actions with and for the volunteers: a campaign tore-launch the mentoring program A friend for you, a creativeworkshop with the ReCult Association, a football championshipat Helios Sport Club for the bene ciaries of the mentoring pro-gram and the distribution of informative materials.We thank our present volunteers for their devotion and in-volvement and we invite those interested in our volunteering
