I was 4 at the time and I played with that plane for a long time. It also probably started when I went to my first airshow when I was 6. I loved it when the planes did acrobatics and I loved the sound when the jets flew by. After that I started going to a lot more airshows. A couple of months after I turned eleven I had my first ride in a plane, a Diamond. I got to fly around and I even got to take off. That was my coolest experience with planes. I wondered then how I could get a head start on being a pilot. Then my friend invited me over to try an RC sim. When I flew on that simulator I knew that the RC hobby was the way for me to get a head start on being a pilot because you don’t need to be 16 years old, like you do for a pilot license. For Christmas, 2014 I got a Sport Cub S2. That is the best trainer plane because it has sensor assisted flight envelope (SAFE) technology to keep you level the whole time. That was the best trainer. That December was when my RC hobby took off. Then for Easter I got a Park Zone P51d Mustang. At first I was scared to fly it but then I asked my friend Dan if he could take it up for me. When he passed me the transmitter immediately I smiled. It was the fastest and coolest plane I had at that time. After that, my dad made an F117 out of foam board from the dollar store. It was so cool when it flew because it flew so loudly and it looked like real f117. After I flew that, people started asking if I wanted to fly their planes. First Dan let me fly his powered glider. Then Frank let me fly his Carbon Cub and taught me how to do a flat spin. Then Paul let me fly his 3D plane and let me roll it. Recently I finished building my very own scratch build of a Corsair. It is cool because I made it without using any plans. It has been 9 months since I started the RC hobby and I love it. Today I also try to get as many rides in planes as I can. I recently joined Civil Air Patrol to get a lot of hours in their Cessna 172. In conclusion I want to thank Prado Airfield for giving me a head start on becoming a pilot.

My Life as a Young Pilot

Brennen Sette

12 yrs old

I don’t remember exactly when my love for planes started, but it was probably when my brother went to the Reno Air Races and came back with a P51 toy.

Pattern Events at the PVMAC’s Prado field October 3 & 4, 2015.

Saturday October 3 is AMA/FAI pattern

This event is $20 to enter. We will plan on a 4 round contest. Information on aircraft and maneuvers/sequences can be found on the National Society of Radio Controlled Aerobatics website. www.nsrca.us

Sunday October 4 is Classic pattern.

This event is $20 to enter and is a great way to get into the sport. We will plan on a 4 round contest. Classic Pattern con-tests brings back competition of the 1970's and 1980's. Some of the participants will even fly with airplanes, radios and engines of the era - although this does not help with the scores. Almost any 40 - 60 size airplane glow or electric is al-lowed to fly in the Pre-Novice and Novice classes. For Advanced and Expert classes, we like to see an airplane more of the era. There are several ARF's that you can buy today, the most popular is probably the Phoenix 7 and the Dirty Birdy. We are looking for a style of flying, one maneuver at a time as indicated on the call card. Can you fly a straight line? Can you roll? How about a loop - or 3 loops. Classic Pattern Association (www.classicpatternassociation.com) is a site you might want to look at. There is a membership fee of $15.00 a year but membership is not required to join our event. The Site will also have a written description of all the maneuvers as well as the call cards. Give Classic Pattern a try! You probably already have an airplane you can enter. The next contest for Classic pattern is in Lancaster November 7/8, 2015

Note: The 400 foot altitude restriction is in place on both days. You will be asked to spot for the next pilot after your round - a lookout for full scale aircraft. The snack bar will be open both days.

Dear Friends,

On August 27, 2015 the California State Senate followed the State Assembly's lead in passing California SB 142. AMA spoke out in opposition to this bill in a letter to the Senate and the bill's sponsors, and testi-fied further before the Joint Legislative Committee on Emergency Management and the Senate Judiciary Committee on August 18. Despite these efforts the California legislature passed SB 142, legislation that may pose a significant threat to recreational model aviation. While originally intended to address privacy concerns the bill was amended in late June and, as such, now potentially subjects model aviation enthusiasts to possible law suits and civil sanctions for even an inadvertent excursion over the property of a neighbor that borders their flying field, schoolyard, park, or even their backyard. This bill currently is sitting on Governor Brown's desk waiting for his action. Time is short. The governor has until September 12, 2015 to either sign or veto this proposed legislation. Please act now. Go to http://amagov.modelaircraft.org/18534/californiasb142/ and let Governor Brown know that, as a recreational aeromodeler, you believe that this bill is too broad and overreaching and can only have a negative impact on model aviation.

Thanks for your help on this important issue. Lawrence Tougas

I will be processing membership renewals at the next general meeting Tuesday September 8, 2015. I will have applications available for you to fill out. If you wish to renew at the meeting, please bring a copy of your AMA card or 2016 receipt. I can not accept your application without a copy of your proof of AMA attached. The copy of your proof of AMA membership is stapled to your application and kept for future reference. We will be accepting cash, checks and credit cards, assuming I can get my PayPal reader to work.

New End of Year Drawing

Your PVMAC newsletter, Flightine, is still in need of an editor. Tom Marcure, who is on the PVMAC board has been filling in as Editor-in-chief and Tom Callahan has been doing the writing for the last few months. The two Toms and The board realizes that this is a-lot of work for one person to put the newsletter together and come up with interesting content every month. In fact it is a-lot of work for two people to do. Especially when we each have demanding jobs, demanding families and we like to fly occasionally too.

Everyone in our club wants a newsletter every month that is interesting, informative, educational, and occasionally on-time. We also don't want to put the entire burden on one or two people, as this will most likely lead to quick burn-out and is certainly not conducive to meeting the desired goals of our newsletter. To that end, the board has agreed to "CALL IN AIR SUPPORT!" so to speak. We are asking for volunteers to help out by contributing an article to the newsletter. And for your efforts you will be entered into a drawing for a prize raffle at our December club meeting. For each article you will receive a ticket to be entered into the drawing. And although you are welcome and encouraged to contribute more than one article per month, you will only receive one ticket per month. With your contributions, no one person has to be responsible for the content every month, we can all share some of the responsibility, even if you can only do one article a year.

Articles can be about anything RC airplane related, helicopter related, or multi-rotor related and here are just a few ideas that may spark your writing creativity. You can do a review of an ARF you bought and flew, a new scratch build your working on, or new piece of equipment (charger, radio etc.) you are now using. Perhaps you can share some wisdom on a particular skill or tech-nique. Maybe you know someone in the RC industry and would like to interview them. Or you do a write up of an RC event that you attended. The story of your plane crash can certainly result in a good article, especially if you include the sequence of events leading up to the incident, the investigation, lessons learned and preventative measure. And winning the raffle at the end of the year can certainly help take some of the edge off your P.T.C.D. (Post Tremendous Crash Depres-sion). For those of you who regularly attend the monthly club meetings, you know that participants of the show-and-tell each month get entered into a raffle for a chance to win either a $250 or $350 Visa gift card at the end of the year. If you participate in that drawing, you may consider also doing a write-up of the same subject for this drawing. This will give you yet another opportunity to win in the sepa-rate newsletter drawing.

The article submission drawing rules are as follows:

1) For each month that you submit one or more articles, you will be entered in the year end drawing. 2) You can only receive one entry per month. 3) Valid articles that are submitted, but not used in the newsletter will still receive one entry for the

month in which they were submitted. 4) Articles may not always be used in the month for which they were received. 5) In order to qualify for an entry, your article must be approved for publication by the editor. If your

article is not accepted, you will be notified why it was not accepted. Articles will generally only be rejected due to content not in line with the spirit of the modeling hobby.

6) All decisions concerning article acceptance are final. 7) Five entries will be drawn at the December General Membership Meeting. Each winner will re-

ceive $100. You can only win one prize per year. If we have less than five entries for any drawing, the additional prizes will not be awarded.

Membership Director’s Rant

Well that magical time of year will soon be upon us. Yes you guessed it— Membership Renewal Time. We will start renewing as soon AMA starts sending out 2016 cards. When you renew this year, please remember to send the following: 2016 Application, a paper copy of your 2016 AMA Card, and of course the correct payment. For on time renewals that will be $80. For late renewals, that will be $200. If the club has a booth at the AMA Expo this year, you will be able to renew at the $80 rate until 4:00 PM the last day of the show. If the club does not have a booth at the show you must renew on or before December 31, 2015 to be on time and save yourself $200. Even though an AMA youth mem-bership is good until 18 years of age, you must still include a paper copy of their AMA card. These copies get attached to application for historical purposes. We do not keep a master file of AMA cards. Thank you for your cooperation. -Tom Marcure
