Vice Chancellor with Her Excellency at Home MoU between The University and NSDL for NAD

Welcoming the guests he said, “SKM University hasalways provided its students with a healthy competitiveenvironment to help them grow in every sphere of activity,be it academics, sports or any other extra-curricularactivities. We have given equal opportunities to all ourstudents so that they realize their true potential and today,we wish to award certificates to the students in recognitionof their excellent performance on Hul Diwas. I am muchpleased to have our distinguished guests whose presencewill boost the morale of the institution and whose blessingswill act as a source of encouragement to all the students.”Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sinha furtheradded that the University is working effortlessly towardsbuilding a digital and smart campus by introducing digitaleducation and digital financial transaction.

Her Excellency Governor cum Chancellor of theUniversities of Jharkhand, Smt. Draupadi Murmuappreciating the efforts made by Hon’ble Vice ChancellorProf. (Dr.) Sinha and other staff of the University inpromoting all round development of the students throughvarious cultural and extra-curricular activities said thatsuch events will not only help to develop positive feelingsand cultural awareness but also motivate the students toexcel in their respective fields.

On this occasion a MoU was signed between SKMUniversity, Dumka and Central Tasar Research andTraining Institute, Hehal, Ranchi. This MoU will provideopportunity to our students to have free access to theresource materials of Central Tasar Research and TrainingInstitute, Ranchi. Experts from the institute will guide ourresearch scholars from time to time. This will lead to skilldevelopment through research and training in Tasarproduction.

SKM University took another step towards digitalizationby signing a MoU with NSDL( National SecuritiesDepository Limited) for NAD( National AcademicDepository). Henceforth, NAD will provide a databasecopy of certificate records to SKM University and issueonline certificates to registered students.

Two books, “The Hul and its Legacy” edited by Dr. AjoySinha and Prof. Achyut Chetan and “Bharatiya JeevanDarshan” written by Dr. Dinesh Mishra, were released

Certificate distribution by Her Excellency

by Her Excellency. “The Hul and its legacy”, with aforeword by Her Excellency, is a valuable collection oforiginal research papers presented by scholars andhistorians during a seminar on “Hul and its Legacy” heldon 29th June this year. SKM University owns completecopyright on the book.

In recognition of the young talents, Her Excellency gavecertificates to the participants who exhibited brilliantperformance on Hul Diwas. Later, Hon’ble ViceChancellor Professor (Dr.) Manoranjan Prasad Sinhafelicitated the invited distinguished guests with mementoand shawl.

To mark the occasion of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”participants from various colleges staged danceperformance on patriotic songs that almost enchanted theaudience. Various cultural programmes showcasing thediversity of India justified the event that aimed at creatingcultural awareness among the people. Students in vibrantcolourful dresses danced to the song “Sandeshe Aate Hai”,“Ai Mere Watan ke Logon””Vande Mataram”, “Sar peHimalaya ka Chatra Hai” ,”Jaha Dal Dal” and “Maa TujheSalaam”. The chanting of the slogans of freedom fightersby the students instilled the sense of patriotism among theaudience. Finally, the programme ended with a vote ofthanks by Pro-Vice Chancellor, SKM University, Dr. S.N.Munda.

Solar Power to light up SKMU Campus

The University is heading towards making its campusenergy efficient. Hon’ble Member of Parliament ShriNishikant Dubey in a meeting with Hon’ble Vice Chancellorof SKM University and other University Officials assuredall possible help to install solar panels that will generateclean electricity which will cut energy cost. Prof.(Dr.)Sinha informed him about the development of the Universityin the advancement of higher learning.

District administration in association with SKM University,Dumka launched “Damakta Dumka” campaign as a partof cleanliness awareness programme to declare the districtas ODF by March 2018. The campaign was launched on11th August under the able leadership of S.K.M. UniversityVice Chancellor Prof.(Dr.) Manoranjan Prasad Sinha andDumka Deputy Commissioner Shri Mukesh Kumar.A complete ban on polythene was announced to make

Four New Labs for Digghi Campus

As part of University’s investment in infrastructure, fournew laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Zoology andBotany will be constructed in the Academic Block of SKMUniversity’s Digghi campus. These laboratories will bewell-equipped and fully modernized. Major renovationwork will also be carried on in the Administrative Block

SKMU to Introduce Five Self-financing Courses

The Academic Council of SKM University at its meetingon 31/08/2017 approved a recommendation to start fivenew self-financing courses. These courses areBiotechnology, Physiotherapy, Diploma in MedicalLaboratory Technology (DMLT), C Mathematics and DOphthalmology. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SKMUniversity Prof.(Dr.) Manoranjan Prasad Sinha whopresided over the meeting said that these courses willenable the University to keep pace with the challenges anddemands of the modern globalized society. The meetingwas attended by Pro- Vice Chancellor Dr. S.N. Munda,Registrar Dr. D. Singh and other University Officials.

Publication Committee Meeting

A meeting of the Publication Committee of SKMUniversity was held in the Chamber of the Vice ChancellorProf Manoranjan Prasad Sinha on 18.08.2017. The nextissue of the University Journal of Humanities and SocialSciences will soon be published. Following the meeting, anotification inviting articles for it was issued. Theresponsibility of bringing out a separate journal for sciencewas entrusted to the Dean, Faculty of Science. The ViceChancellor gave clear instructions to the PublicationCommittee on the policy of zero tolerance of plagiarism.He further instructed the Committee to initiate the processof publication of original research monographs by facultymembers of the University.

Legal Cell Meeting

The newly constituted Legal Cell of the University metunder the Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor ProfManoranjan Sinha at his residence on 20 August. The Cellwill extend legal help on any assignment fixed by the ViceChancellor. The Cell will meet once every month and bringto the notice of the Vice Chancellor any matter pertainingto legal issues that it feels necessary.

The Cell consists of lawyers Sri Gopeshwar Jha, SriAchyut Keshav and Sri Prabhat Kumar. Prof BK Thakurand Dr Ajoy Sinha (Convenor) of the Department ofEconomics and the Department of Political Science

respectively are the academic members of Legal Cell.Assistant Registrar Sri Rajkumar Jha also attended themeeting as a member.

Seminar Committee Meeting

The Seminar Committee of the University met in theDepartment of Political Science under the chairmanshipof Prof Vijay Kumar on 28 August.

The Committee’s recommendation that each departmentshould be requested to conduct a monthly seminar for thebenefits of the students was approved by the Vice-Chancellor. The Committee will assist the universitydepartments in organizing national and internationalseminars and promote a conducive culture for academicevents in the University. The meeting was attended by DrAmarnath Jha, Dr Jay Kumar Sah and Dr Ajoy Sinha.

Finance Committee Meeting

The Finance Committee of the University met on 22 Augustunder the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor ProfManoranjan Prasad Sinha at his office in the Universitycampus. The committee examined multiple issues whichwere placed before it. Some important decisions of thecommittee were regarding payment to the architect andthe advocates of the University. Decisions were taken onbooks to be published by Santhal Academy. Apart from

the regular members, the meeting was also attended bythe Borio MLA Shri Tala Marandi and Littipara MLA DrStephan Marandi, and the Financial Advisor to theUniversity.

Placement Cell Meeting

In the meeting of the University’s Student Placement andCounselling Cell, held on 26 August at the Department ofEnglish, several important proposals were made.

These include the setting up of three member Placementand Counselling committees in each college. TheUniversity’s Cell will organize workshops and trainingsessions for these college level committees and providethem with a comprehensive list of placement agencies inthe country. Additionally, students seeking jobs will alsobe given Counselling sessions.

The members of the University Cell who participated inthe meeting included Dr. Swatantra Singh, Dr Sujit Soren,Dr Nirmala Tripathy and Dr Niranjan Mandal. Dr RajivKumar of the Department of English is the Convenor ofthe Cell.

Faculty Superannuated

Prof HK Mishra, Dean, Faculty of Commerce andDirector, Business Management Programs of theUniversity retired from the services on 31 August. TheUniversity wishes him a healthy and happy retired life.

SKMU launches “Support to the Poor Scholarship”Scheme

SKM University Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Sinha hasbeen a pioneer in launching “Support to the PoorScholarship” to provide financial assistance to the poorand needy meritorious students so that they can meet theexpenses of their education. He appealed to the affluentindustrialists, businessmen, social workers, and formerstudents of Santhal Pargana to come forward in this nobleventure by funding scholarship of Rs. 2.50 lakh for eachstudent. Interest earned out of this would go to such studentsand help to brighten their future.
