Kia ora koutou whanau, We have been thoroughly enriched over the last few months as many

have shared powerfully from the life of King David and how his journey

and experiences impact our own lives today. The last couple of weeks

we have transitioned into the life of David’s son, Solomon, where

Carmen and Andy have shared of this amazing, although somewhat

contradictory, son of David! Yet, as we have been learning, Solomon

points us toward the true son of David, the descendant of David in

whom Scripture is fulfilled who will

‘build Gods house’ - the Son of God, the

Son of David, Jesus! This is the true

Christmas story, and our upcoming

journey of Advent leads us towards this

Christmas message – the longing for the

fulfilment of the great promise to King

David:

“ 12 The Lord declares to you that

the Lord himself will establish a house for

you… I will raise up your offspring to

succeed you, your own flesh and blood,

and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He is

the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the

throne of his kingdom for ever. 14 I will be his father, and he shall be my

son.” (2 Samuel 7:12-14)

And then in the New Testament the angel appears to Mary and says: 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him

Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.

The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will

reign over Jacob’s descendants for ever; his kingdom will never

end.’ (Luke 1:32-33)

We are God’s house, we are God’s temple, His dwelling place! (See

Hebrews 3:3-6 and 1 Cor 3:16). As we begin our Advent journey on

Nov 29th, we will discuss how Gods ‘house’ (His people) are organised.

We have some exciting leadership and structural developments at

Northcity that we will share that Sunday, seeking to be true to what

we sense the Holy Spirit saying, desiring to express His kingdom, on

earth, as it is in heaven!

Looking forward this Sunday to Cindy (morning service) and Aaron

(night service) sharing with us!

Fresh Perspective Gift Hamper Collection

Thank you to those who have

contributed towards the hampers

being put together for the families

that we are currently journeying with

through Fresh Perspective.

The collection is still open to be able

to bless these families this Christmas.

If you would like to help out but don’t

have the time or confidence to shop

for the ‘right’ thing, Raewyn would be

happy to receive financial donations

that she can use to add to the

hampers.

If you have committed to providing a

gift, please get it to Raewyn before

the end of this month.

Have you noticed how fabulous the grounds are looking lately? Huge thanks to Mike Gilligan for transforming our gardens, to those who have assisted him when needed and to Mate

McHenry for the great job he does keeping on top of the lawn mowing.

Angel Tree reminder…. Thanks to all those who committed to

buying presents for Prison

Fellowship's 'Angel Tree Christmas'

initiative. Please remember to have

your gifts back, unwrapped, by this

Sunday (place them on the table

where you selected the card from).

Also, Andy will be attending the

Wrapping Day in the early afternoon

of Saturday 28. We have 15 presents

to wrap once they have been

checked. If you would like to come

and help with that please see Andy or

email him at [email protected]

Advent Begins November 29 marks the first week of

Advent in the church calendar.

Advent is a period of four weeks of

preparation for Christmas, focussing

on the wait and expectation for the

coming of the king. It is also a chance

to pause and engage with the

Christmas season in a way that is

different to the madness the world

encourages us to embrace it in.

Over the four weeks we will follow

the traditional Advent themes of

Hope, Joy, Peace, and Love, lighting a

candle each week to represent each

one.

The fourth week of Advent, focussed

on love, will also be our Christmas

service on the morning of Dec 20. So

come along and invite your friends

and family to come and celebrate the

coming of the Christ with us.

Change in Office Hours

In order to give Northcity and

Northgate staff the ability to be in

meetings or offsite when necessary

for part of the working day, we are

experimenting with having the offices

open for limited hours. During closed

hours you will be able to leave voice

messages on the phone and

appointments can be made with staff

during that time if agreed, but we will

be closed for “walk-ins”. This will be

reviewed in the new year.

New hours are:

Mon—closed

Tues, Thurs, Fri—10am-3pm

Weds—9am-4pm

Please note that the person you are

hoping to see may not be available

just because the office is open. It is

always best to make an appointment

if you can.

Quick Bits...

Keys missing

If you see 3 keys on a small

‘camo’ tag somewhere in the

building please give them to

Barb or Andy so that they can be

returned to their owner.

Dishes for return

If you have brought a plate or

dish of food for a shared lunch

and did not pick it up afterward,

please check that it isn’t in the

growing pile of kitchenware that

is accumulating on the bench in

the kitchen. We are very grate-

ful for your contribution to the

meal, but have limited storage

space for extra dishes.

Lost property

The lost property bin is pretty

full again. If you, or your

children, are missing something

that you could have conceivably

left at Northcity then please

have a check to see if it is in the

bin.

The bin is located outside the

door to the Admin storeroom.

Term 4 Zion Concert

We have Zion’s final concert for

this year on Friday at 7pm. Come

and watch the 100 plus kids from

around our local community and

wider Christchurch area show off

their talents and passions.

Tickets are $5 or $20 for a family (2

adults and 3 children) and can be

purchased from the Northcity or

Zion offices before Friday.

Going to the movies in the

afternoon feels like one of those

sneaky things that hides you away

from the chores that you “should be

doing”. Take time out of your busy

life to enjoy the movie that

promises to be EPIC!

The final fundraiser before

Polaroids head away is a screening

of the much anticipated Hunger

Games—Mockingjay Part 2 at Hoyts

Northlands at 2pm sharp on

Sunday, November 22.

This is only 3 days after its release

so you won’t have to compromise

your itch to see it soon after release

in order to help Polaroids!

Tickets are $15 each but if you can

manage to pay a little more, the

additional amount all goes to the

fundraising pot—as well as the

standard percentage of your ticket

price.

Tickets are on sale, get yours now to

be sure of a seat and be early on the

day to get a good one.

Be one of the first to see Mockingjay Part 2!

Zion Fundraiser

Polaroids are on the final countdown before leaving for the World Champs on

November 30th, so are working really hard to make sure they are well prepared

to take on the world!

Thanks to everyone who has been supporting the fundraising events held so far –

this is the last one! If you can’t make it yourself you can help by spreading the

word, sharing on facebook etc. Click here for the Zion facebook event posts or

here for their website for more details.

Barista Training

If you are interested in joining the

café team at Northcity, Jono is

running another training session from

7:00 to 8:30 on Monday, November

30th. Please speak to Jono to register

your interest, or you can just come

along on the night.

Please note, this is not a session for

those who would just like to learn

how to make coffee properly—it is

specifically for those who are willing

to join the Sunday rosters. However,

we may run a coffee training evening

next year on general barista skills.

It’s A Boy! We are thrilled to announce

the arrival of our newest

Northcity whanau member—

William David Thompson was

born on Sunday.

Everyone is doing well and

Dave & Claire thank everyone

for their prayers and support.

Imagination Station

If you haven't already been down to the Imagination Station, make

sure you pop in! They are open daily from 10-6pm in Cathedral

Junction. This is a free lego playground where even the adults will

have fun. Who doesn’t love lego?! (Unless you stand on it that is!)

Click here to check out their website for more information.

Christmas in the Park, Saturday Nov 28

Our fabulous Zion performance crew is again playing a major role in the

family entertainment spectacular that is Christmas in the Park.

Make sure that you get along early to get a good spot , however you may

need to think carefully about parking because the fields are being

upgraded for a national touch rugby tournament which means that there

will be no parking on Dean’s Fields in Hagley Park. If you normally park

here, you'll need to be prepared to park elsewhere on surrounding streets

or private car parks.

Additionally, the Botanic Gardens car parks (off Armagh St and Riccarton

Ave) will both be closed to the public due to private events, with the

exception of mobility parking (you'll need your pass!) off Armagh St.

It will be free to park on the street, or in any council car park from 4pm on

this day. Privately owned public car parks will have normal charges so

make sure you check before you leave your vehicle!

Hi there!

Church. We have a 3 bedroom rental property at 450 Mairehau Road,

Parklands, available as of this coming Monday (9 November). It is

etc. The rent is $430 per week. Our home phone is 03 310 7066, or

faith for tenants to be able to move in ASAP. Maybe it’s you!

Great variety, Great quality, Low prices, Excellent service!

Get on down to see Karla at Make Me New in the Parkside Plaza in

Bishopdale (west side of Bishopdale Mall) to inject a little bit of

something fab into your new season’s wardrobe.

organisation that works with families with limited resources who need

clothing for newborn babies. If you have any that you are no longer

using, please drop it into the shop or their clothing bins.

Jesus had a small group of people (disciples) that he

taught regularly - not just on Sunday. Sunday worship

gatherings are not all that Northcity is about. We

have a number of small groups called Connect

Groups which are one of the major ways we express

what it is to be the whanau of God. Northcity Church is the people and not a

building; connecting with each other so we can better connect with God is an

important part of who we are.

Currently, our Connect Groups are held:

Tuesday 7.30pm Russley (mixed adults) Kathryn Wilson

Wednesday 10:00am Northcity Café (women) Janice Scott

Wednesday 7:30pm Avonhead (mixed adults) Johan and Emmy Roentgen

Wednesday 7:30pm Redwood (mixed adults) James & Kathy Duncan

Wednesday 7:30pm Casebrook (mixed adults) Greg & Janine Greenwood

Wednesday 7:30pm Bishopdale (mixed adults) Craig and Kahla Brooks

Wednesday 7:30pm Harewood (young adults) Esther & Nathan Schwartfeger

Wednesday 7:30pm Redwood (young adults) Hamish and Jo Read

Wednesday 7:30pm St Albans (young adults) Cam Fisher

Thursday 7:30pm Northwood (mixed adults) Jeremy & Charleen Chan

Youth Groups: Friday 7-9pm weekly Frontline (high school age) Rachel Prior Friday 7-9pm fortnightly Bootcamp (intermediate age) Craig & Kahla Brooks (Generally held at Northcity church. Regular weekly cost = $2 per person, may be additional event costs)

Highway Church: Thursday 7:00pm Meeting weekly for prayer, worship & discipleship at the home

of Dominic and Emma Chilvers in Rangiora

Connect Groups

Thank you! to all who give generously to

Northcity.

Please note that in order for us

to provide a tax receipt which

allows you to claim back a third

of all you give us, we need to

record your offerings using our

tithe record system. You are

allocated a number to identify

your giving, which removes the

need to record your name.

Please ensure that you supply

this number with any payment

made. If you have not been

assigned a tithe number or

can't remember it please

contact Barb in the Northcity

office or check with the

EFTPOS operator on Sunday

mornings.

Tithe envelopes can be found

by the EFTPOS machine in the

auditorium. Northcity’s bank

Sunday Service Rosters

Thank you to those who volunteer for our service rosters each week, you are a vital part of our ability to

function as we feel called to do. We would love to speak to anyone else who feels at any time that they

may like to help in a rostered area. Please approach Andy or Barb in the first instance.

We’d love to help you find a group that you can connect with. For more info

please contact Andy Dickson on 375-0850 or email [email protected]
