Newsletter Senior School Issue 2 October 2017 029 2077 8936 www.stjohnscollegecardiff.com @SJCCardiff Dear Parents and Guardians, Welcome to our second E-Newsletter, and thank you for the many kind comments about our first edition. October has been even more eventful, as you will read. Numerous sporting events, a successful Geography field trip, a Chess tournament, several Science trips and guest speakers are but a small selection of curricular and co-curricular activities that have occurred. Congratulations to our Choristers, who in addition to attracting justified praise for their beautiful weekly singing at the Cathedral, represented the School with consummate professionalism at the Annual Welsh Independent Schools’ Conference. I would particularly like to thank all my colleagues, Sixth Form students and parents who either assisted at or attended our ‘Meet the Teacher’ evenings, and especially our hugely successful Sixth Form Open Evening. On a personal note, I felt immeasurably proud to be your Headmaster when I recently showed two very elderly citizens (my parents!) around St John’s, only to be greeted by two wonderful R15 students who welcomed said strangers with such warmth and integrity. Their kindness exemplified all that is good about this delightful and special school community. With your support, our students’ charitable altruism was very much in evidence at Harvest Festival and our first ever Casuals Day, raising money and donations for those less fortunate than ourselves. May I wish you a very happy, healthy and blessed Half-Term and month ahead. Warmest wishes, Gareth P. Lloyd, Headmaster. VI Form News Twenty-five of our LVI have now enrolled to help pupils in the Junior Department with homework and Mathematics support, including many of our overseas students. Four more (Rima, Marco, Idris and Amy) are now working with R14 pupils in the MFL Department. The UVI early UCAS deadline has passed so all of our eighteen future medics, vets and Oxbridge undergraduates now have to wait for their offers and/or interviews to come through after frantically polishing up their personal statements and online applications in recent weeks.
