We have introduced a new literacy program Minilit. The program involves at least four lessons a week of up to 60 minutes per day, and includes regular curriculum based measures to monitor students

progress. Minilit is a balanced reading program that across carefully structured & sequenced lessons, covers sight words, letter sound correspondence, blending, segmenting and reading connected text. Our students love attending and have fun while learning. Students have improved immensely in their literacy skills and we are very proud.

REQUEST FOR ALL SCHOOL MAINTENANCE LOCAL TRADES PROVIDERS AND SUPPLIERS The NSW Government has committed the largest investment in planned maintenance at public schools in the history of NSW. A

record $1.3 billion is being spent on an ambitious delivery program, focused on employing local businesses and contractors across

the state. To assist in addressing regional school maintenance issues and at the same time provide work for local trade’s persons

Miss Johnson’s K/1 Class How exciting - Term 3 already!! and what a busy term we have planned already. Lots of fun exciting things in the classroom, school excursions being planned, sports outings and school visits just to name a few. The children have all come back to school for Term 3 eager and ready to learn which is great to see. I can also see lots of children have been practicing their magic 100 and home reading in the holidays. In K/1 we have begun to incorporate more technology into our curriculum with all children have opportunities each week to use our new laptop computers. We have focused on logging on to their school account and our Maths online program. Everyone is very excited to have their own laptop to use in these sessions.

Our literacy program is in full swing again with an increased focus this term on building our writing skills and identifying the different sounds vowels can make. We have been making our sight words and writing short sentences using our letter sound knowledge. During the first week we read 'Piranha's Don't Like Bananas' and this led the children to work on their own project where they decided to make felt Piranha's to retell the story to each other. This was a completely child-led project with a great deal of discussion and negotiation taking place to produce some wonderful works. Looking forward to a fantastic term.

Library this term will be changing to a Monday afternoon due to our Bowling sporting program now running on Tuesday - so please continue to bring Library bags in but now on a Monday. Any questions don't hesitate to catch me during the term.

We welcome back everyone to a fun filled Term 3. We finished up the end of Term 2 with our NAIDOC day celebrations which saw our students working with students from Glendale High School in a variety of activities. The last day of Term saw us celebrating 100 days of school this year. All the students enjoyed dressing up and participating in a range of activities centred around the number 100. We have started this term with the Year 4 students going to Glendale High School to participate in a STEM challenge with other year 4 students from local primary schools. The kids had to work in teams to complete challenges that included making a catapult out of paddlepop sticks , plastic spoons and masking tape and then they had to create a working model of a hand using a glove, straws and string. Maths lessons have been about 3D and 2D shapes. We have enjoyed being able to make 3D shapes out of nets and toothpicks and bluetak. We are excited for our STEM challenge Fridays. The teachers have been busy collecting cardboard boxes and egg cartons. These will be used for a variety of activities including making structures for a specific purposes. Fridays will also incorporate some coding on the computers to learn how to code the robots that we have.
