Mid-Year Reports

Hard to believe it is that time of the year already!!! Mid-year reports are almost finalised across all classes, and are currently being proof read before printing. You can expect that you will receive your child’s report on the last day of term. It has been wonderful as always to read about all that our students have achieved during the first half of this year— hope you enjoy reading them as much as I have. Please remember that early in Term 3 we will be mak-ing contact with all parents and carers to arrange Student Support Group meetings, a chance for us to reassess Indi-vidual Learning Plans and set any additional student goals for the remainder of the school year. These meetings are a terrific opportunity for you to have further input into your child’s learning, and I would encourage you all to take the time to meet with your classroom teacher when the time comes.

Same day notification of student absences

You should have all received a letter outlining the new Department expectations around student absences. This same letter was also in last week’s newsletter and was posted on Facebook. New School Planning

On Tuesday 12th June, Ruth and I attended a meeting with the Victorian School Building Authority and the Depart-ment and got some further info about the next stage of planning for our new school. We were told that this stage of planning would be done with Appin Park Primary School, where one architect will be appointed to work with us to create facilities for each school to match each of our educational visions. It was made clear to us that we would not be moving – that the architect would be working with us to reconfigure the existing land that both schools current-ly occupy. It was made clear to us that this was not a merger by stealth, and that there would be no change of gov-ernance. Rather, we would remain two separate schools, reconfigured on the existing land, with opportunity for some shared space/s. We see this as an exciting opportunity for both our schools, and we are determined to work together to achieve improved outcomes for our students and school communities.

Last Day of Term

Next Friday 29th June is the final day of Term 2. As always, we will finish an hour early on this day, at 2pm. Our school buses will run early on this day.

Winter Break

Can I take this opportunity to wish all of you a safe and warm two week winter break. This term in Cobbler, students have been cooking some amazing things. We have enjoyed pizza muffins, a variety of sweet cakes and biscuits, meatballs, French toast, pizza pockets, vegetable pasta and pinwheels. Students are becoming more independent in following a recipe, and enjoy sitting down to eat together at the end. What a great life skill everyone is learning! Here is a link to a couple of our recipes – we hope you enjoy them!

We’ve all been busy in Hotham. We have been learning all about our feelings and what makes us unique.

Brandon, Kenny, Ewan and Jaydyn are becoming Masterchef’s in the kitchen, they enjoy cooking for them-

selves and also for Thomas and Xav who go to Meals on Wheels during our cooking program, they enjoy com-

ing back to a cooked lunch! It’s lovely to see the caring relationships between the boys.

Kenny and Ryan are currently away, we wish them both a speedy recovery.

We are looking forward to the holidays to recharge our batteries! We wish everyone a safe and happy two

week break!

Taminick - Sarah, John and Belinda

Madeleine has finished designing her own magazine called Madeleine Rose. She has tips on how to get the

perfect eyebrow shape, winter coats and how to dress like Harry Potter characters.

Congratulations to Student of the Week Erynn for being a learner by enjoying swimming with her peers for

the first time this year and Damon for being a learner and borrowing a book from the town library for the

first time with support. Well done to both of you.

This fortnight in Stirling we have been doing some creative play as part of our learning program. This involves

the students being given a variety of activities to choose from. Some of these activities included our train set,

science experiments in our sensory tubs, water play, puzzles, mirrors and books. The students have been work-

ing on their social skills by playing with others that they may not usually interact with. It has also given the

students an opportunity to use their imaginations.

Elijah—Likes to play with the kinetic sand. He likes to build volcanoes.

Darren—Likes to have fun playing with water and splashing it everywhere.

Callum—Likes to sit down with a book and read it. He also likes to look at the pictures.

Francis—Likes to play with the train set with Elijah. They pretend that they own a train station.

Tyler—Likes looking in the mirror and studying his reflection. He likes to makes faces at himself.

Mt Beauty - Kate and Lis

Warby - Naomi and Jack

Mt. Beauty students have been having a blast these last couple of weeks joining in activities with Appin Park students. We were lucky enough to be shown, by some very nice Appin Park students, how to use virtual reality goggles. Some places we visited were Outer Space, Mt Everest and under the sea!

We were also lucky enough to join in a P.E lesson playing Tiggy and practising skipping. It has been fan-tastic to be able to join in these fun activities and meet new people.

Warby has had a fabulous couple of weeks! One of the greatest highlights was walking the Bullawah Trail from the Northern Beaches along the Ovens, finishing up at Apex Park. Everyone enjoyed the out-ing and the opportunity to learn some Pangerang stories via the mobile scan codes and the information boards. The sculptures were especially captivating.

Mt Pilot - Jacqui, Cat and Lea

Stanley- Bridie and Simon

Stanley students have continued to work hard this term to achieve their learning goals. Recently, we have be-gun independently using our work schedules to access a variety of activities that will assist in the development of fine motor skills, literacy and numeracy skills and independent living skills. The tasks are designed for stu-dent independence and it has been great to see students saying “I don’t need help, I’ve got this!”

Earlier this term we were talking about families in Mt. Pilot. We talked about who lives at our house and

what other people make up our ‘family’. As you can see the students drew beautiful pictures of the people

that were important to them.

Mt Typo - Ryan and Sheydin

Morgan - Daine and Sharon

Highlights from the term have in-

cluded our weekly swimming les-

sons with Tamara at the Barr Re-

serve.

We have loved going for bike rides and riding

along the BMX tracks!

A big well done to Thom-

as, who was rewarded a

Lions Children of Courage

Award for his incredible

achievements in sport.

Congratulations Thomas,

we are all very proud of

you.

We are developing our cooking

skills and have been exploring

different foods to try.

This term we especially enjoyed

borrowing Leanne’s pie maker

and cooking meat pies.

On Wednesday we visited the Warbies for a hike. We took the sunrise loop (green track on the map below). This trek was 5.2 kilometres, up and down steep hills. The walk was a great fitness challenge but all students got through with a positive attitude. We were all tired by the end, but felt more energised after having some food. A campfire was started by the students using firewood and some matches. We cooked sausages on a hotplate and also toasted bread and put on strawberry jam. We wish everybody a great holiday break. We look forward to seeing all of the Morgan guys back refreshed and ready for Term Three.

Mt. Emu - Frazer and Emily

During Terms 1 and 2 we have been learning about Ned Kelly. To finish off our learning we took a trip to Glenrowan to see the Ned Kelly museum. The boys had a great time and a couple even asked if we could go again! We then took a walk around Glenrowan to see all the sites from the siege.

We have had an amazing first half of the year here in Mt. Emu and can’t wait to see what the second half of the year brings!

The Kossie class have been busy selling chocolates outside of school to raise money for new transport for our

school. As a class we have sold 35 boxes. Jack Oates and Zack Holmes are leading the charge for the school sell-

ing 24 between them!

We have also been having fun walking around the Warby’s. Last week we did a class hike at Salisbury Falls. It

was awesome. Art: We have been doing pop art in our art classes the last two weeks. Kossie students have been

putting in lots of effort into their pop art canvases.

ART with Jodi, Stella & Jody

Our Pop Art unit continues with students getting their “messy” on with Papier Mache sculptures. I

am so impressed with how the students have embraced this theme, and have taken objects they see

around them everyday and turned these into fantastic art works. Our Pop Art paintings look amaz-

ing and we can’t wait to see how our sculptures will turn out.

MUSIC NEWS

We have had a great time in Music this term and well done to all students who have taken part.

This week our Choir was invited to sing at the Vincent Road Op Shop volunteers morning tea held at the Uniting Church Hall in Rowan Street. Well done choir members! Your singing was great and you brought smiles to many faces, including your own! You represented our school extremely well and I was very proud of you all. Thanks Leanne for driving the bus and to all in Bogong class for taking part. It was a pleasure to sing for the op shop volunteers and we were very happy to be invited to share in a delicious morning tea. We are also very grateful to the Op Shop Committee who very generously donated $200 towards music at WDSS. Our school captains Jess and Tyreece gratefully accepted the cheque. Well done everyone!

Today was our final band session for this term with Chris and Jenny from the High School. What a great term it has been for those students who are taking part in the instrumental band program. A huge thanks to Jenny and Chris for the work you do with our stu-dents. They even remembered Shaneevah’s birthday this week and brought donuts to celebrate! We look forward to continuing the band programme next term. In Assembly this week our band is looking forward to demonstrating their instruments.
