Welcome Back: New Semester, New Leadership
Taíno Warriors,
We’re off to a fantastic beginning to the 2014-2015 School
Year and the Military Science Program! I see motivated,
dedicated, and spirited Cadets across all MS Levels and at all
campuses. I am very impressed by your hard work and
dedication to improving yourselves and each other. I challenge
each of you to push yourself and your peers to achieve all the
standards across the board. The APFT is very near, so be
ready! I expect superior results! The CWST is fast approaching,
so be ready to swim! And don’t forget, we have lots of training
planned at Camp Santiago. Mentally and physically prepare
yourselves now. The year will be over before you know it.
I also encourage those whom are good at English to
begin peer study groups in order to assist those who are
struggling with the ECLT and OPI examinations. You have to
help one another pass the OPI. To do this, set up study groups

organized by those who have already passed the OPI. You can’t
wait to do this, you MUST begin preparing immediately. Success
is determined by improving yourself one day at a time, ever so
slightly, so by the end of your ROTC journey you have exceeded
your own expectations.
Bring a positive attitude and a motivated spirit with you
EACH and EVERY day to ROTC. All in all, you are off to the
beginning of a wonderful journey, so work hard, have fun, and
enjoy the ride! Remember a positive attitude and motivated spirit
changes EVERYTHING! Stay focused and lead by example Taino

Cadet Commander Welcome Letter
Taíno Warriors, My main expectation for MSIIIs this year is for them to start strong, motivated, and with a positive attitude. We are all aware of the changes that Cadet Command is going through; therefore this year will be very different and challenging for all of us. With this said I want you all to not let any obstacle that might encountered be an obstruction on the path
toward your goals and future. I want you to take on any challenge and take advantage of all the experiences you will live throughout the program, keeping in mind that all of those experiences will help you develop as good leader, ready to face any situation they might encounter. The best advice I can offer all MS levels is to always have a good attitude. You will face many challenges and difficulties throughout the path, but if you all keep a good and positive mind set no matter what the situation is, you are most likely to always get something out of it. Also I advise to always do the right thing no matter where you are. We are Cadets/Soldiers 24/7. Always try to be the best you can be don't settle for less and give a 100% in everything that you do. You do this and your performance will speak for itself. Never let anyone tell you can’t achieve something, you set the limits for yourself. I wish the very best for all Cadets this year during this learning experience and their future careers. C/LTC Cabello, Lireika

Cadets taking Oath during
the Contracting Ceremony.
After the CWST September 5th 2014, the first Cadets where officially sworn in by LTC Eric
Hanes at the San Juan Central Park. Receiving an ROTC contract is the first step in a long journey
of becoming an Army Officer. The Cadets contracted through September have demonstrated their
dedication and commitment throughout two years of the ROTC program and completion of the
Leaders Training Course this past summer.
Contracting with ROTC is officially committing to completing all requirements to become
an Army Officer. For these recently contracted Cadets the journey has only begun and at the Taíno
Warrior Batallion we wish them the best of luck.
During the Ceremony distinguished Cadets where also recognized. The top percent of the
MS4 class, as well as the top performing Cadets of the Leaders Training Course and Leadership
Development and Assessment Course received recognition on behalf of LTC Eric Hanes.

Drop Station.
During Friday September 5th 2014, the Taíno Warrior Batallion conducted a Combat Water
Survival Test. The CWST measures the Soldiers ability to complete a set water obstacles simulating
a Combat situation. It also helps Cadets develop trust and confidence when in the water.
The test consists of five events, two of which are based on basic swimming skills such as
water threating and a timed swim. The other three events consist of a 15 meter equipment swim,
equipment release dive and a 3 meter blindfolded drop.
After all Cadets where tested, Ms1’s and MS2’s participated in a Drill and Ceremony Class
that was offered by Cadet Sifonte who is part of the Puerto Rico National Guard- Honor Guard.
MS3’s received an Operations Order Process class led by the top MS4 performers at LDAC 2014.
In the afternoon Cadets had the chance to share with the Batallion Staff, Cadre, as well as their
classmates from other Campuses.
