Congratulations to Mr Keaton Thomas who will continue his leader role as Wellbeing and Daily
Operations for the rest of the year. Welcome Ms Kendall Vivian who has increased her time to support
The Arts program. Welcome Brodie Lockwood to the SSO team who is supporting our students.
Learning
Our Primary Special Class hosted our online Mid Term Assembly. It was great to celebrate the different
learning taking place in the primary classes. It was also pleasing to see the confident leadership skills
from the hosting class.
Upper Primary classes attended an aquatics day held at West Lakes. These students learned about water
safety as well as trying out canoeing, kayaking, sailing and surfing. The Upper Primary classes also had
the opportunity to represent our school in a SAPSASA Boys Netball and Girls Soccer carnival at Argana
Park recently. Their improvement was evident as the day went on.
Enterprise Day was held last Thursday afternoon. This day celebrated the learning opportunities which
help students develop the attitudes, knowledge and skills of the entrepreneur. It also develops confidence,
self-reliance and a determination to succeed. Enterprise Day shone through as a huge success with the
community coming out to support. A range of items and activities catered for all with some classes
surprised by their profits.
Ms Ruby’s 2/3 class and Ms Amy’s 3/4 class recently had a visit to the Lyell McEwin Hospital to gain an
insight into the new hospital school. The students had a tour of the ward, spoke to some do ctors and
nurses about the things some patients may do whilst in hospital. They also participated in some
indigenous activities and received some take home packs.
Our whole school daily program of Read Write Inc is really gaining momentum as many students have
progressed into higher groups, showing more than a term's growth in five-weeks. These groups are
important to meet the needs of the learner and keep them engaged. Read Write Inc is a structured
phonics program designed to ensure all students learn to read accurately and fluently with good
comprehension. Comprehensive planning and support is provided for staff so they can channel their
energy and creativity into teaching fun and engaging lessons.
Mid-Year Reports will be given out from Thursday 1st July. Staff have spent a considerable amount of
time and effort to write about your child’s progress this year. Please take the time to sit and talk with
your child about his/her learning. You will then have the opportunity early in Term 3 to have an interview
with your child’s teacher.
Uniforms
It is pleasing to see your child wearing our school uniform daily. Please continue to support the wearing
of our school uniform as kids develop a real sense of belonging. As the colder months have crept upon us,
students can wear warm jumpers (not necessarily school uniform) provided that the jumper is
UNDERNEATH their school shirt. This reasonable negotiation supports the drying of school jumpers
through winter, yet upholding our school uniform policy. Please make sure your child’s name is on their
clothing as we constantly have lost property which you can access every morning at the breakfast club
area.

Learning News - D2
Students in the Hub have been learning to write persuasive texts. Students have been working on strong
opening statements, using rhetorical questions, using strong modal verbs and including research (facts)
to strengthen their opinions. Can you find examples in these draft persuasive texts?
Kuma Kaaru Dance Performance
Week 6 we celebrated Reconciliation Week at Elizabeth South Primary School, and we were lucky enough
to have Uncle Jack Buckskin and the Kuma Karru Dance group come in. Students watched and
participated in learning Kaurna cultural dances. Students enjoyed being involved in the dancing and
learning about Kaurna Culture.
Journey Of Success
This original artwork was created by Ngarrindjeri artist and designer Jordan Lovegrove, specifically for
the Department of Education in South Australia to represent the Aboriginal Education Strategy 2019 to
2029.
'Journey of Success' is displayed on the Aboriginal Education Strategy cover and it's reflected in our
Aboriginal education materials, including the Aboriginal Learner Achievement Leaders' Resource (ALALR),
which helps leaders raise literacy and numeracy skills in all Aboriginal learners.
The artwork symbolises both the intent of the Aboriginal Education Strategy and steps towards
Reconciliation for the department.
Our educators have the highest expectations for Aboriginal children and young people and it's our
purpose to support them to reach their full potential through a culturally responsive approach to
teaching and learning.

Squash Excursion
Earlier this term, students from D2 and D8 (pictured), as well as D1 and D7, were given the opportunity
to experience a new sport. Before the five-week unit on squash began, most students had never even
heard of the sport before. Thanks to a grant from the Australian Government, we were able to send
around 100 students along to Ingle Farm Recreation Centre across two days, to experience coaching
from world class competitors. We thank the coaches and the teachers for their efforts to make this
happen. The coaches involved thoroughly enjoyed the occasion, so much so that they would like to
extend an offer for squash lessons and games to any students and parents who would like to experience
more of this energetic and exciting sport.
SAPSASA
This term, selected students proudly represented our school at the Para District Boys Netball and Girls
Soccer tournaments. Our students gave up several of their play breaks to train and learn new skills, and
for some, a whole new sport, ready for the big event. With many memorable moments across the day for
both teams, we are extremely proud of their efforts and how they represented our school.
STORY DOGS APPRECIATION
The recent success of our Mother's Day stalls enabled us to make a donation to the Story Dogs program
to help continue this great school initiative.

Library News
Halfway through term 2 already and we are keeping busy, updating our displays and recognition w alls,
like the lovely Caught Being Good peacock tail, and setting out plenty of new books for our fantastic
learners.
This month’s reading display theme is Indigenous Culture, filled with lots of information and even a few
very popular indigenous items.
Coming up again soon will be our Books in Homes assembly when all the children will receive their three
chosen books, thanks to Mainfreight.
