SUPERB ART PROJECT Year 10 students have developed and produced a beautiful stained glass window for the
Learning Resource Centre in school. With funding from ADFAS (Arden Decorative and Fine Art Society) and design support from Foxon Designs, the students were able to pro-
duce this unique work of art. D Roberts and Sons sponsored the frame for this win-dow. In addition students made two ceramic panels and Solihull College allowed access to
their kiln to complete the work, All in all a great reflection of partnership working!
On 15 July the Mayor of Solihull, Irene Chamberlain, came into school to formally unveil the window along
with representa-tives from ADFAS
who unveiled the ceramic panels.
Marina Davis our
Head of Art intro-duced proceedings
and the Head Teacher, Mr Scutt,
thanked all those
who contributed to the project. A
reception was held afterwards for
guests and the 40 students involved.
THE SHIRLEY VARIETY SHOW Light Hall School hosted the Shirley Variety
Show on Friday 18 November. The show was organised by Shirley Town Partnership
to raise funds for the Shirley Christmas Lights and was attended by the Mayor of
Solihull, Irene Chamberlain and local coun-
cillors. Finalists from the Shirley Talent Contest, which had taken place over the
previous two weeks at the Village Hotel, performed and the winners were an-
nounced. Voltage, a rock band from Alder-brook School, won first prize which was a
day in the Recording Studio at Light Hall.
The runner-up was our very own, Loren Fulbrook (pictured), who won membership
to the gym at the Village Hotel. Over £400 was raised on the night.

After a very successful season last year, the standard remains high. Our year 11 team made the final of the Solihull Referees Cup and helped raise a significant amount for charity. So far this academic year, all five year
groups are represented in both the Solihull and Birmingham Cups and as a department we are anticipating an-other successful season. We shall also be entering various girls’ teams in a range of competitions during the
upcoming academic year.
Cross Country A positive start for the Cross Country Team with the new group of Year 7s representing the school across the
borough at the first race at Smiths Wood School. Sports Day
Sports day this summer was held at Tudor Grange Sports Centre. Over 400 students from Years 7, 8 and 9 took part. It was a great success and students performed well. Next year’s Sports Day will run in line with
