PricewaterhouseCoopers employees are an important part of Association House through their active involvement and commitment to our children and families. Last year, PwC employees shared a memorable day creating a service learning project with our Children’s Out-of-School Time Program. Coordinated by Vanessa Salinas, PwC employee and Association House Board Member, the volunteers helped children bake and sell cookies as a part of a service learning project. Proceeds from the projects have included sending care packages to troops overseas, and adopting endangered animals through Brookfield Zoo. This summer, PricewaterhouseCoopers employees conducted a Build-A-Bike event, along with a book drive, at their Chicago firm. Nearly 100 PwC employees helped assemble new bikes to distribute to agency children, and secured hundreds of books that were given to low income children in the Humboldt Park Community. This fall, employees gathered at Whole Foods Market in Lincoln Park to help Association House package 500 bags of food in preparation for the first ever Whole Foods Food Drive for the agency. Hundreds of hungry children and families will have food because of their help. (See reverse side for Whole Foods article.) PwC also recently joined the list of generous sponsors to the annual Benefit, Faces of Hope. Nearly $200,000 is raised each year for critically needed Association House programs. We congratulate Vanessa and all the wonderful friends at PwC for their tireless efforts on our behalf. PricewaterhouseCoopers is one of the world’s most influential professional service organizations providing audit and assurance, crisis management, performance improvement, human resources and tax services internationally. How You Can Help2nd Annual Fitness For Kids Health Fair

Boston Consulting Group Gives Generously

Seventy Boston Consulting Group employees volunteered their time in July at Association House by participating in their United Way Day of Caring. Volunteers spent a busy day completing numerous projects, including painting our High School class-rooms and refurbishing classroom chairs. They also held a Yard Sale that offered discounted clothes and other items to community residents.

The Boston Consulting Group is a private global management consulting firm with 66 offices in 38 countries. BCG Chicago is one of the largest and most diverse offices within the firm. They provide a range of corporate development and strategy work services in the areas of energy, consumer, financial institutions, health care, insurance, social impact & non-profit, technology and media. We thank the generous and hard-working volunteers who truly made a difference and we welcome them back soon!

If your company, church or civic group is interested in learning more about volunteer projects and opportunities to help at Association House, please call (773) 772-8162.

Date Announced

HomeFor The HolidaysFall colors announce that the Holidays are just around the corner. For many of the families at Association House, the need for food and warm clothes for their children, becomes greatest at this time. Please help us to ensure that all of our children and families have enough for the winter months ahead.

Food Drive Whether through your company, church or civic group, please consider a food drive to collect non perishable canned and boxed items needed to distribute through our Association House Food Pantry. Call 773-772-8162 for a complete list of most needed food items. Your help could make the difference this winter for a hungry family in need of even the most basic food items.

Gift DriveEnsuring that every child receives at least one gift at the Holidays is the goal of the annual Association House Holiday Toy and Clothes drive. Each year we are grateful to generous friends that supply new toys, books, and games to our children. Most helpful are gift cards from stores such as Target, Best Buy, Jewel and Walmart, so that needed items not received can be purchased. Also welcomed are children’s mittens and gloves, along with socks, scarves, jackets and hats for the entire family. Call 773-772-8162 for a complete list of the gifts and clothing items, along with drop off times to meet our Holiday distribution calendar. For many, the gift you give may be the only gift they receive this Holiday Season.

Holiday AppealPlease give as generously as you can when you receive our year end Holiday Appeal letter. Your thoughtful tax deductible donation will not only help at the holidays, but help enroll more than 20,000 children and families in classes that will change their lives forever.

THANK YOU for making this the best Holiday Season ever.

Mark your calendars now for the annual Faces of Hope Benefit, sponsored by the Board of Directors, taking place on Friday May 1st, 2009. Don’t miss an exciting night that helps thousands of families served by the Association House. Again this year the Benefit will be held at the beautiful and historic Ritz-Carlton Hotel right off the magnificent mile in downtown Chicago. Last year’s event was a great success, with more than 250 guests joining friends and family for dining, dancing and bidding to help raise much needed funds for agency programs. The live and silent auctions were led by Charity Auctioneer Jim Miller, and hot items included vacations to Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, New England and sunny Acapulco. Sports tickets to Chicago favorite teams, dining, sailing and golf getaways provided something for everyone. New in 2008 was the Instant Wine Cellar, a live auction item that featured 50 bottles of wines and champagnes donated by friends of Association House. The item

brought much excitement to the evening, with winner Carrie Camino, Board Alumna and former Benefit Chair, taking home the prize!

Nearly $200,000 was raised to help Association House continue its mission of more than a century—opening doors of opportunities through education and training to those most in need. Thanks go to Event Chairs Cynthia Ullrich of Harris Bank and Mark Allen of Comcast for making 2008 such agreat event. Sponsors for 2008 are listed below.

A highlight of the evening featured Chicago’s Department of Consumer Services Commissioner Norma Reyes, who shared meaningful remarks about coming with her family to Association House as a girl, and the hope and help she received.

Plan now to join us on May 1st, 2009 to celebrate the 15th annual Faces of Hope Benefit, and the 110th Anniversary of the Association House! Watch for your personal invitation to arrive by mail in March.

More than 350 children and their parents attended the 2nd Annual Fitness for Kids Health Fair. In partnership with the Barretto Boys and Girls Club, the Fair helps educate community families about living a healthy and active lifestyle. Various healthcare organizations and local business, such as Harmony Healthcare, Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Illinois Poison Control, and Chicago Children’s Museum, distributed information regarding available resources for families. The Department of Children and

Youth Services and the Mobile Dentist provided free hearing, vision, and dental check-ups to 200 children. The Health Fair also benefited from the help of more than 50 volunteers, many from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and the United Way of Metro Chicago, both sponsors of the Healthy Lifestyles program. Promoting healthy lifestyles is a cornerstone of the curriculum offered at Association House. We gratefully acknowledge the Oberweiler Foundation, Aetna, Inc. and other generous donors for supporting our childen’s health programs.

New Friends at Whole Foods MarketChicagoland Whole Foods Market grocery stores hosted the first annual Faces of Hope Food Drive to help provide hope to hungry families. The food drive ran for 9 days in September. Whole Foods is the world’s leader in natural and organic foods. Their mision is Whole Foods–Whole People–Whole Planet, and they are committed to supporting local non-profits. They demonstrated their dedication through partnering their five Chicago stores with our Food Pantry, and donating 500 Hope Bags filled with non-perishable items. Special thanks to Christine Doyle-Vincent, Whole Foods Marketing Specialist, for a job well done. We also extend appreciation to all the store staff and customers in bringing us closer to our goal of filling the Food Pantry for the winter months ahead.
