“Get Stuffed Arrow” with Debbie Reeder

August 12, 9:30 AM, Severna Park Library

Hello everyone,

I attended the SDP conference in Daytona in May and it was nice to see a few CBDP faces there. ☺ Please take the time to read *all* the infor-mation that SDP sent to you regarding the Annual meeting. That data will show that the dues increase to $60/per year was approved and the information also provided a fair amount of data on the membership and financial status of our organization. I know that none of us are happy with this increase, however, if it was not approved, SDP indicated they would be unable to move forward.

There was certainly a lively discussion with many good questions brought forth from the members who attended the annual meeting. Even with the increase for this year, they still project a loss.

I hope that SDP can turn the tide. I’m not sure the membership num-bers will never be what they once were, but there are new initiatives in place that I shared at the June meeting. We also received our Chapter Achievement Award.

I hope to see you in September when we will vote on new Officers.

Paint with purpose, Janet

Chapter Projects Thanks to Michelle Pollhein, Shelley Moore and Debbie Reeder for teaching at recent chapter meetings.I again apologize to Shelley and members for the confusion about the location of the June chapter meeting. I have confirmed the locations for the remainder of the year with the libraries.

We look forward to getting back to painting on September 16 at the Severna Park Library with Candy Carter after a summer break. Registration for her Beautiful Garden Wine Glasses is due to her by mail before Au-gust 16.

The schedule for the remainder of the year is:

Oct 7 at Severna Park Library – Let Heaven and Nature Sing taught by Michelle Pollhein

Nov 4 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church – Give Thanks taught by Debbie Reeder

Dec 9 – Linthicum Library – Autumn Tapestry taught by Debbie Reeder

Registrations due at the September 16 chapter meeting: Let Heaven and Nature Sing – October chapter project

Give Thanks – November chapter project

Attention Teachers – we will be selecting chapter projects for next year at the November 4 meeting. Please consider submitting a project or two. We need you! Information is in the newsletter, on the website at www.cbdpainters.net under the News and Forms tab, or you can contact me directly at 410-647-8467 or email me at [email protected].

Paint-Ins Thanks to Kathy Myrick for teaching the Thirty Mile Lighthouse in June and I’m looking forward to teaching another arrow design Get Stuffed at the August 12 summer paint in. We had a great turnout for both clas-ses. Thanks to all who signed up!

Seminars The Jillybean Fitzhenry seminar was a great success! Thanks to all who participated and helped make the seminar a good one. I want to especially thank Kathy Anthony for finding the location and helping with the set up. Thanks to Bev Cratty for delivering Jill to class and to all those who were able to share dinner with Jill while she was here.

A stable and cost effective location for our seminars is a real problem. Many fire houses, hotels, etc charge by the hour and are not an option. If you have a community center, church, or other ideas please check with them for pricing BEFORE you send me the information about the location. Anything more than $250/day is probably not an option.

I will be talking to teachers at HOOT in August to get some ideas for the projects they offer. There will be a survey coming in September so we can select some teachers and schedule seminars for next two years.

Happy Painting, Debbie Reeder

Chapter Painting Projects for 2018

At the November 4 chapter meeting, members will choose the projects we will paint at the chapter meetings in the coming year. WE NEED PROJECTS!!! Classes may be 3, 4, 5 or 6 hours in length. Six hour classes will be divided over two months. Payment to the teacher is $6.75, $9, $11.25, or $13.50/student depending on class hours. You must sup-ply the pattern including a photo (cost would be included in your the Pattern/supplies fee). Additionally, you can choose to provide the prepped surface, and paints as required for Sail Away, you can offer the surface as an optional purchase, or you can have the students paint on their own surface. Students supply their own prep and class paint unless class paint is included in your Pattern/supplies fee. If you have any questions or want to submit a project and can’t make it to the chapter meeting, please contact Debbie Reeder at [email protected] or 410-647-8467.

Each project must have a 3”x 5” card that includes the following information:

your friends.

New Business: Paula Taylor notified Janet Davis that she plans to

run in the next officer election for Second Vice President – Mem-

bership.

Old Business: Janet Davis spoke about the necessity of having

volunteers run for the soon to be vacated officer positions of

President and First Vice President–Programs. She noted hav-

ing volunteers willing to accept responsibility to take an active

role on the Board is a critical component of a successful chap-

ter.

Candidates for CBDP 2018 Board Positions

President: Debbie Reeder

I have been an active member since 1995 and am running for president to continue to provide leadership to

such a committed and talented group of painters. I cannot do this alone and ask all of you to consider volun-

teering for one or more of the many opportunities to give back to a chapter that brings so much to you.

1st Vice President: Kathy Anthony

I became a member of CBDP in 1996. I have served the Chapter in many ways over the past 21 years. I have

helped Debbie with the voting and scheduling of the Kent Island, Summer and Weekday Paint-Ins. I served as

1st VP for 4 1/2 years and President for 4 years. I have also served on the Birthday Luncheon and Sail Away

committees, painted many Memory Boxes, painted ornaments for the Kennedy Kreiger service project and

bags for Love in Action. I love this Chapter and the opportunities it gives us to paint and fellowship together.

2nd Vice President: Paula Taylor

I joined Chesapeake Decorative Painters in 2016 after making some new painting friends at Beyond

Brushstrokes. I have been painting off and on for the last 20 years and am thrilled to find this group of paint-

ers. I am a medical physicist by day and have found painting to be great for relieving stress and using a total-

ly different part of my brain. I enjoy painting as part of a class so I want to make sure that we continue to

have opportunities to paint as a group and to learn new techniques.

Secretary : Candy Carter

I am willing to serve our chapter as secretary for the upcoming year should I be elected. I have been an attor-

ney since 1996, although I no longer practice due to a chronic injury. I have only been a member of our chap-

ter since September 2015. I joined because I wanted to belong to a group of people that enjoyed painting as

much as I do. This is my first chance to offer my services to the group in this manner, but I have participated

in many of the events and paint ins since joining. I have served as an elected officer for other organizations in

my past. I believe that being a member of an organization requires that everyone pitch in and do some of the

work that helps a group run as well as grow: I would like to continue to be a meaningful part of this group's

growth going forward.

Treasurer: Linda Walls

I have been a member of CBDP for more than 19 years, though my involvement has been to enjoy the chap-

ters events, developing my painting skills, and assisting with various committees. I look forward to continu-

ing my involvement with the chapter as Treasurer. I enjoy being part of the chapter helping to keep our

chapter active and growing.

Janet Davis called the meeting to order at 10:30 AM. She

thanked Debbie Reeder for conducting the May chapter and

BOD meetings in her absence.

Treasurers Report: Linda Walls provided the Treasurer’s Re-

port noting Checking account activity including cash receipts in

the amount of $4,061, and cash disbursements totaling

$4,014.86. Ending balances for Checking and Savings accounts

are, $7,442.30 and $5,135.36, respectively, for a net total of

$12,577.66. The Savings account balance includes accrued

interest in the amount of $.23.

Linda also reported that a profit of $155 was gained from the

Jillybean seminar, and $1,873 in profit from the Sail Away ban-

quet raffle. Janet Davis noted that DecoArt and Dynasty

Brushes paid for Jillybean’s roundtrip airfare; several attendees

sent thank you notes in appreciation.

Membership Report: Janet Davis gave the report from the

information provided by Jeni Bearce. The chapter currently

has 97 members, this figure is comprised from 92 renewing

and 5 new members.

Jeni has received the name badges. Members will be asked to

provide information as to how they would prefer to be called,

and preference to have either a magnetic or pin name badge.

Specifically, no titles, such as Ms. or Mr. will be used; howev-

er, if you’d prefer to be called by a nick name such as Liz for

Elizabeth, let Jeni know. Additional details will be provided at

the September meeting.

Programs Report: Debbie responded to inquiries concerning

National Teachers providing new seminar projects; she learned

they felt it unfeasible to create new projects to teach at semi-

nars, and relied upon offering a wide selection of projects

taught previously. Debbie will address this issue with others

while attending HOOT.

There are several concerns about planning for upcoming semi-

nars, chiefly the expense, as well as locating a suitable and

affordable classroom setting. Debbie remarked that the Bar

Harbor Marina was a beautiful facility, however, there is lim-

ited seating capacity. Debbie went further and explained that

future chapter seminars will be limited to two days as opposed

to three. As now envisioned, painting days will be scheduled

on Fridays and Saturdays; this may allow greater access for use

of church meeting rooms.

Debbie announced that coupons may be used for all classes,

including: seminars, chapter paint-ins, Summer paint-ins, and

at Sail Away. Specifically, Debbie said, “any educational oppor-

tunity” would qualify for using a coupon.

Kathy Anthony was contacted by Mark Polmachak about

scheduling a weekday watercolor seminar. Kathy has arranged

for Mark to teach a two-day seminar to be held September 19

& 20, 2017 at the Bar Harbor Marina, in Pasadena, MD. Addi-

tional information will be provided later.

Ways and Means: Erin Triplett was the winner of today’s raffle

drawing of the Janice Miller donated painting of an owl on can-

vas.

Memory Boxes: Erin Triplett brought with her today Memory

boxes for members to take with them for painting over the

Summer. Erin would like to replenish her supply of Memory

Boxes so as to have some available to distribute to various hos-

pitals.

Library: Alice Dudley advised that she has purchased for the

library a new how to paint on glass DVD entitled, “Spring

Fling”, by Jillybean Fitzhenry. She brought with her today a

wide selection of library magazines available for member pur-

chase.

Sunshine: Linda Miller was asked to forward a get-well card to

Gavin Standish.

Community Service: Carole Shuey plans to have another Com-

munity Service event next Fall. She will research and report

later on what she learns from various local programs that are

seeking donations.

Sail Away: Carolyn Troy said she has with her today Sail Away

materials available for the next person volunteering to chair

Sail Away. She explained that the role of the chair is to act as

the coordinator of all of the subcommittees. Please connect

with Carolyn if you are interested in chairing Sail Away next

year.

Birthday Luncheon: Linda Miller advised that the Luncheon

Committee had met and begun painting favors. The next

meeting to continue working on the favors has already been

planned. A contract with the Olive Grove restaurant has been

signed, a buffet menu selected, and a theme chosen for the

event. Mark your calendars – the Birthday Luncheon will be

held Saturday, January 13, 2018 – plan to attend, and bring
