August 2016 Page 7Staying Strong on Your Feet

As we advance in years, one of thethings we most want to avoid isfalling. To this end the ‘Strong onYour Feet Home Exercise Program’has been designed specifically tokeep us strong, not only to reduce therisk of falling but to prevent it. It is a‘home exercise program’ and it can’tbe emphasised enough that the mostbenefits are gained if the exercisesare done regularly at home inbetween ourweeklygatherings.Staying asstrong as wecan for as longas we can willhelp us toenjoy an activelife for as longas possible. Tothe newcomer, some of thethings we do atour ‘Strong onYour Feet’ classes might seem a littleunusual but be assured everything isdone for a purpose. For example, during one particular exercise routinewe count out loud, forwards andbackwards in a certain pattern. Thisexercises our vocal chords andengages our brains while we areworking to strengthen our bodies.Theencouragement of the Peer Leadersand the group as a whole, make

exercising a pleasure and not a pain! Ihave been attending the program forover eighteen months and happilyreport a big improvement in overallstrength, better co-ordination andmuch improved balance. (Sadly mysinging has not improved as allpresent will agree!!). Our thoughts arewith Grace and John and any whohaven’t been up to par lately and wehope you will be able to join us again

soon. Welcome back to PeerLeader David, who has justreturned from overseas. Forfurther information pleasecontact Jan by phoning 95354749, mobile 0427 088 615or [email protected]’t forget to bring yourdrink bottles.Stay strong, stay active andstay happy! Blessings,Cheryl.

The Power of BlessingThere is ‘power

in theblessing’ ofhaving a

loving friend. You might nothave heard ofRebecca

Townsend butshe was the sort of friend everyonewould like to have – loving, kind, thoughtful, giving and selfless. Shewas a bright and intelligent highschool graduate planning to go touniversity. On the night of July 2nd

2015, Rebecca and her friendBenjamin went to a nearby town towatch a fireworks display. The showfinished at around 9pm and as the twofriends were crossing a road on theirreturn home, a car drove straighttoward them. Without a moment’shesitation, Rebecca pushed her friendBenjamin, taking the brunt of thecollision with her own body. Shesubsequently died from the injuries

she sustained. Although Benjaminwas seriously injured he survived butonly because his friend had lovinglysacrificed her life to save his.Rebecca was just seventeen yearsold. What a friend and what a selfless‘act of love.’ JESUS said ‘Greater lovehas no-one than this, than to lay downone’s life for his friends.’ (John 15:13)and it was out of HIS love for everyperson ever born, that JESUS cameto earth to lay down HIS life. Whetherwe know it or not, every one born ison a ‘collision course’ to stand beforeGOD to be judged, when our life onearth comes to an end. And becauseGOD is righteous HE cannot turn ablind eye and pretend we have neverviolated HIS laws. The Bible tells usthat ‘the wages of sin is death.’ Inother words, there is a penalty to paywhen we break GOD’s laws and everyone of us has done just that. We areall guilty! But the good news is thatGOD is rich in mercy and grace andhas made a way out for us to escape

the punishment we deserve. GODsent HIS SON JESUS to pay the pricefor us. In essence JESUS has‘pushed’ us out of the way of a‘collision’ with GOD’s righteousjudgement and taken the ‘full brunt’ ofthe punishment we deserved as HEshed HIS blood and died on the cross. What an act of self-less love. What agift of loving kindness! If you’ve neveraccepted GOD’s free gift of Salvation(JESUS), as LORD and SAVIOURwhy not turn to HIM today? You’llnever find a friend as loving, faithful, kind and generous as the ONE WHOfirst loved you! There is ‘power inthe blessing’ of aloving friend - andwhat a friend wehave in JESUS!Be blessed to bea blessing,Cheryl.

Letter to the Editor

Just Do It!

A concern to the community ofWaroona. I wish to alert the Community to thepossibility of scammers, opportunists inour Community. On a recent occasion a couple of menarrived at my home and encouraged myhusband to have some branches cut ona big tree. I was well aware that thebranch would have required to bepruned but these two men quoted anoutrageous amount, my husbandunfortunately accepted the quote. I wish to alert you to the fact that thesemen left no card or contact details, noreceipt and to add to the incident they didnot clean up the debris after theyfinished the job which took all of 45minutes. The only identification I have isthat they drove a van with a logo on theside. The mess was subsequentlycleaned up by a friend, which took acouple of hours. Both the shire and police have beennotified. (Name and Address provided.)

Loyalty has rewards…

Waroona Vet Clinic NewsWith the last month of winter here Ithought it time to start looking forwardto the warmer months and fleas! The facts about fleas:• A flea starts feeding onblood within 5 minutes: When a fleajumps onto a pet, it will start feedingwithin 5 minutes and may suck bloodfor up to 2½ hours.• A single flea lays 40 to 50eggs a day: Each female flea canproduce 40 to 50 eggs a day. That'sup to 2,000 in a lifetime, infesting yourhome and your pet’s environment.• An adult flea can live for 2months: A single flea can live on adog for almost 2 months providingongoing irritation.• Fleas are stubborn andhard to remove: Flea larvae burrowdeep into bedding and carpet -thorough, regular vacuuming andcleaning of pet’s bedding isrecommended.• 8 weeks or more to removeflea populations in theenvironment: Once a flea infestationhas been established it can take up to8 or more weeks to eradicate it.What Flea Treatment is right for mypet?Chews for Dogs (Recommended forpets that swim or are bathedfrequently) The majority of the newtreatments are now chews. Whychews? Chews are easy to administerand they don’t rub off onto other petsor people. It also means there are nowashing or swimming restrictions soyou can keep doing the things youlove with your dog withoutinterruption. They are highly palatable

solution. Put in on and no fleas or yourpet or in the environment for 8 months.Spot On: (Recommended for peoplelooking for an affordable monthlyoption with a tried and effectivesolution)All good spot on flea treatments arenow available as singles! If yourbudget works better buying one permonth then you can now do that.Newer spot on treatments like Activylare available as singles as well asAdvantage, Advocate and Advantix. What about pets with skin issues? If your pet has Demodex treatmentwith Bravecto OR Nexgard willeffectively clear up the problem quicklywithout repeated visits to the vet.If your pet has a flea allergy Comfortisflea tablets, Seresto andAdvantage/Advocate are good optionsfor your pet. Comfortis reduces fleafeeding time (which helps because it isthe flea’s saliva which your pet issensitive to). Advantage, Advocateand Seresto all kill fleas before theybite which removes the problem ofyour pet being exposed to flea saliva. If your pet has sensitive skin I preferBravecto as the three month protectionfrom fleas removes fleas from playingany role in your pets problem. Quiteoften allergic dogs will develop multipleallergies and by controlling fleas, itremoves a flea allergy as being thenext problem to plague your pet.I hope this helps de-mystify the everexpanding flea treatment market andkeeps your pets and homes flea free –Nurse Frosina

with no mess to administer, no liquidsto spill or transfer. Bravecto andNexgard are two of the newer chews tothe market. Nexgard comes as a single,3 or 6 pack and lasts one month.Bravecto comes as a single bit lasts for3 months against fleas and ticks. They both provides effective control offleas within 8 hours of administration. You may see more fleas on your petafter administering these chewsbecause they stimulates the fleas'nervous system, causing them to rise tothe top of your dog's hair coat as theydie. We like Bravecto especiallybecause it works for 3 months whichmeans you can get on top of fleainfestations. You get full year fleaprotection in just four doses whichmeans fewer treatments to remembereach year, therefore less to forget!New tech flea collars – For dogs andcats (recommend for pets owners thatalways forget the next dose!)Vets have been saying for years, “fleacollars don’t work” and this has beentrue up until now. There is a very newproduct on the market that works!Seresto is a flea collar that provides upto 8 months of continuous protectionfrom fleas for dogs and cats and 4months continuous protection from ticksfor dogs. Seresto is also water-resistantand odourless. Why use a flea collar? I see thisproduct as great for shed/farm catswhich don’t usually have greatprotection from fleas. It is also great forowners who forget to give doses of fleatreatments or have a severe fleainfestation they want to get on top of.This collar is a simple, set and forget

Winter tips forgreat sunny andcloudy day shotsWell hello again,

winter is over half way now and justbefore spring you can get some veryinteresting shots, the lighting can bequite interesting especially after lunchas the sun is still quite low in the sky, this means if you give some thoughtto where the light is and theplacement of the sun you can achievelong shadows for interesting effectsand have the sun in the picture say inthe top corner, place it so the sun isreflecting on you lens to give you that“star” effect.Photos taken into the sun giving youat least a third of the picture coveredby sun with a say bush view can bevery dramatic and look great enlargedon your wall, to get this kind of shotyou need to scan your scene to

brewing storm, a large repeatedpattern of clouds – somethinginteresting about the cloudsthemselves. If you want the clouds to enhance anexisting landscape as thebackground, then you are going towant only the top one third of the shotto be sky. This puts the focus on thelandscape first and the cloudssecond. Be careful with foregroundelements. Usually you will not want toclutter the foreground with visualelements in a clouded landscape, butat times it can be ok to frame the shotwith something like a tree or treebranch in only one third of the picture.Well that’s enough for you to try thistime let me know how you go. Seeyou out there having fun and takingpictures.Stuart

compose the photo using the rule ofthirds (we talked about that in anearlier article) and make sure thefocal point of the picture is aboutmidway to either side, then zoom inon that point and lock the focus point, this is usually done by half holding theshutter release down, now zoom outto the picture you want and push theshutter release down the rest of theway that’s it you now should have awell exposed picture with a bright sunflare in it.Clouds can highlight an image or theycan enhance the background. Decidewhich you want to do. If you want yoursky to be the main focus of the image, then try to look at it so that it takes upthe top two thirds of the frame. Thiswill put the focus of the compositionfirmly on the clouds. You wouldusually do this if the clouds were verydramatic when you’re shooting. A

Coral’s Charity KnittersA bigWelcomeBack to Joywho hasreturned fromrecent travels. Our last Juneknitting date

Occasionally we are given ‘odd’ smallcrochet or knitted items which don’tquite fit into other projects, or thatneed finishing off and we do not havethe pattern or matching yarns. We dotry to find a use for everything andrecently two small knitted squareswent to a local kindy for doll blankets, and four small crochet squares werejoined and added to another odd itemwhich made a pet rug donated to acommunity member. Our pets alsoneed to keep warm during the wintermonths! The rainy drizzle on 7th July did notdeter our very productive group andonce again the table was filled withitems. CONSUMER PROTECTION COLUMNWith Consumer Protection SW Regional Coordinator Debbie Butler

Don’t gift phone scammers withiTunes cardsPhone scammers, posing as theAustralian Tax Office (ATO) andthreatening to arrest people over taxdebts that don’t exist, are causingpublic anxiety and monetary loss inWA. The scam has been around foryears but an unusual new elementinvolves iTunes cards as a paymentmethod. In recent days a 52-year-oldfrom Mandurah reported to ConsumerProtection that she had bought morethan $7,000 worth of iTunes cards froma Woolworths store to pay off asupposed tax debt and avoid arrest. She responded in panic to ananswerphone message on her landlinethat she thought was from the ATO. Asubsequent mobile phone call lastedfour hours – the scammer falselyclaimed the woman was beingmonitored, that her bank accountswould be seized if she didn’t cooperateand that iTunes cards could be used asbonds. Authorities in Victoria and SouthAustralia have received similar reports.Ways to pay the ATO can be found ontheir official website: www.ato.gov.au.They do NOT accept payment in theform of:

You can call the ATO on 1800 008540 or WA ScamNet at ConsumerProtection on 1300 30 40 54. Either ofour agencies will confirm it is a scamand you are not in any trouble.Scammers who perpetrate thesefrauds are usually based overseasand they re-route phone lines usingthe internet, making it hard to traceexactly where they are and stop them. They often target vulnerable membersof the community, including theelderly, those living in isolation, people with intellectual disabilities ormigrants who speak English as asecond language and are not overlyfamiliar with how the ATO operates. Away to fight back is to talk about theproblem with relatives, neighboursand other people in our communitywho could be at risk. If you worksomewhere that sells iTunes giftcards and someone tries to buythousands of dollars-worth in onetransaction perhaps you could gentlywarn them about scams or offer to callus at Consumer Protection. You canalso spread the word via social mediaby sharing Consumer Protection WA’sFacebook posts and tweets.

• iTunes cards;

• pre-paid debit cards, such asones from Australia Post,supermarkets or department stores;

• electronic payment vouchersincluding Ukash; or

• wire transfer like WesternUnion , Moneygram or Alipay. The ATO does not make urgent, aggressive calls and would write to youin the first instance if there was any taxissue they needed to resolve with you. They would never phone out-of-the-blue to say you will be taken intocustody unless you make payment tothem immediately. If you or anyoneyou know receives a phone callsupposedly from the ATO threateningarrest or legal action over an unpaidtax debt, do not be afraid. Our adviceis to:- 1. Put the phone down. If youspeak with scammers you enable themto obtain information from you to helpthem target you further. 2. Do notrespond to numbers supplied in anautomated call. 3. Delete anymessages left on an answerphone orvoicemail service. 4. Speak tosomeone you trust about the scam callto put your mind at ease.

August 2016 Page 14IN THE LIONS DEN

July istraditionally avery quietmonth for theLions everyyear. We’vecome to the end

of the financial year and our newBoard has been elected and ouractivities don’t really kick off againuntil August / September. We didhave the markets as usual and withthe grey overcast weather, it wasanother quiet one. The biggest newsof the month for the club was that ourown Lion, Grant Hewett who wasSecond Vice District Governor for theregion last business year, has nowbeen promoted to Vice DistrictGovernor this year. CongratulationsGrant. He’s going to be a very busyboy running all over the South Westvisiting lots of different Lions Clubsand I suspect that our club will not seeas much of him this year but we knowthat he will do a great job. So…as there is little to talk about thatwe’ve done, what’s coming up? Firstof all, the postponed “MonsterAuction”, called off because ofdonations for the fire victims filling the

New Vice District Governor Grant Hewett (left)incoming 2nd Vice District Governor Bev Hawkinsincoming District Governor Terry Collinson andoutgoing District Governor, Allan Cooper.

Walmsley Pavillion and our own shedbeing re-built, will now be a GARAGESALE only on Saturday August 13th,so see the advert in this Issue. Wehave finally made some progress ingetting the big pine “Christmas” treeoutside of the Visitors Centre re-lit.The tree has outgrown the lights andit is an extremely costly exercisereplacing them, only for the tree tooutgrow them once again, so we havedecided to move into the 21st Centuryand install some exciting, ground based laser projectedlights, so watch out for themas well. Then we have ourannual Vintage MachineryRally on SundaySeptember18th in conjunctionwith the Old Machinery Club ofW.A. and the WaroonaVintage Machinery Inc, whichis simply the biggest and bestrally of its kind in the wholesouth west. This year though,it is going to be a gold coindonation PER HEAD,excluding kids under schoolage to ensure that we canfinancially secure the runningof the event again next year

WAROONA LEOS NEWSThe Leos onthe other handhave beenextremelybusy, probablybecause theyare young,

new, extremely keen andextraordinarily energetic. First of all onMonday July 4th, they cooked for theNAIDOC day event using the LionsBBQ trailer. Leos Ben McWilliams, JyButcher, Riley Seubert, Harri andLauchie Hull, Asha Commisso andJalen Anzellino did a really great jobespecially when the queue stretchednearly all of the way to the FireStation. I kept hammering them tocook as much food in advance aspossible but they coped really wellwith the pressure. Then on Thursday

Naidoc Week

July 7th , they launched their“Community Task Force” program bytaking on two projects in one day, theclean up of the hall and kitchen at theSenior Citizen’s Centre and theweeding and tidy up of old Paul’sgarden in King’s Place. This timeLeos Ben, Jy and the Hull brotherswere joined by Zac Faulkner, LiamHannah, Jayden Coates andPresident Reegan Davis and onceagain, did a truly fantastic job.

Community Task Force

Then weloaded up ourfirst ton ofcollectednewspaperswith the help ofBen and Jayden and took them toWangara before ending the schoolholiday break with a fun afternoon ofbowling at Waroona Bowling Club, with some expert coaching from three

of the club’s master bowlers, BobWaide, Mike Whitney and MattWildermoth. The young people had aball (or should that be bowl (sic)) andhonours should go to the team ofAsha Commisso, Bayley Brown andJack Dwyer who beat my team byone point with Jack’s last bowl onthe final end! BUT…THE MAJOREVENT of the month was the club’sformal Induction Night andChartering of the Club on Monday18th July at the Memorial Hall. It wasan absolutely fantastic night, whichby far exceeded our expectations.140 people attended including the24 Leo’s parents and brothers andsisters, members of neighbouringLions Clubs and various Lionsdignitaries and VIPs. Lions President

Larry Scott introduced Regional Leos

Coordinator, Dora Bushe-Jones whogave us a view of what the Leosmean to the bigger Lions Foundationand what she has got planned for theregion’s Leos Clubs for the comingyear. District Governor TerryCollinson then inducted our four Leo’sBoard members, Treasurer JackDwyer, SecretaryAsha Commisso,Vice PresidentJalen Anzellinoand PresidentReegan Davis. Itwas then thehonour of myselfand my fellowLeo Advisor, LisaFry with the helpof the newlyappointed Board,to induct theother 20members,although my planof getting them toread the Oath ofAllegiance inunison was a bit ambitious and maybewe need to have a training session on“Working in harmony!” PresidentReegan then made a very inspiringand moving acceptance speech, thematurity of which belied his tenderyears. Dora then took over again,

presenting the Leo’s Board memberswith their official Lions Foundationbanner and Certificate of Charter, certificates and badges to Lisa Fryand myself for initiating the club and acommemorative patch to PresidentLarry for the sponsoring Lions Club. The evening ended with a couple of

really special awards to the LionsTreasurer, Louie Chiera for hisfantastic work of running the financefor the Waroona- Yarloop Bush FireDisaster Fund for both the Waroonaand Harvey Lions Clubs and finally,Brad Vitale and Naomi Purcell fromthe Shire of Waroona, presenting

specialCommunityServiceAwards toReeganDavis andJalenAnzellino. The eveningended with abit of frivolity,as TreasurerJack andmyself tookover thetraditionalLions Tail(tale)Twistingsession,

where we fine club members forsome of their more non-proceduralantics that they may have carriedout in recent events!! All in all, afantastic night and we can lookforward to this Leo’s Club goingfrom strength to strength as we goforward with this simplyoutstanding group of youngpeople, led by four really strongand talented executive leaders.

Finally, the Leo's have elected theirnext two Board members. ZacFaulkner will be MembershipChairman looking after allmembership related stuff, for bothcurrent members and any newmembers wanting to join in thefuture and Harri Hull will be LeoTamer, in charge of all of the Club'sassets and in charge of setting upthe meeting room with all of theLeo's regalia for each meeting.Congratulations to those two younggentlemen and we know that theywill both do a great job.

This month we are looking at Citrusgall wasp. DAFWA is asking forreports of its presence outside ofknown areas to improve knowledge ofits spread. It is currently known to bepresent in the Perth suburbs ofLockridge, Beechboro, Morley, Kiara,Embleton, Bayswater, Cavershamand Eden Hill. The Department ofAgriculture and Food, WesternAustralia (DAFWA) was first alerted tothe presence of Citrus gall wasp inWestern Australia following a reportfrom an Eden Hill resident in 2013. Itis believed to have been introducedinto the state via infected nurserystock. What to look for

Citrus Gall Wasp UpdateThe tiny native wasp is only 2-3mm insize, so the first indicator of itspresence is galls which form aroundthe developing larvae. Monitorbetween June and September (winter-

early spring). Search for galls onyoung, green twigs (current season’spopulation). Galls located further upthe branch or on older branches canindicate that there have been olderinfestations. The presence of holeswithin the gall indicates that adultshave already emerged. Galls canweaken trees, making them spindlyand unproductive, whilst heavy

infestations can reduce crop yield andcause branch dieback.ManagementPrune out branches with galls andmulch, burn or deep bury them.Disposal in normal household wastecan spread the pest.As the wasp prefers to lay eggs intoyoung, flushing growth, it is importantto reduce the amount of spring leafflush. Over-fertilising (particularlyheavy nitrogen applications) canpromote excessive amounts of springflush.Natural enemiesBiological control has been extremelyeffective in Queensland and NewSouth Wales but natural enemieshave not yet been established in WA.In spring 2015, DAFWA releasedparasitic wasps, Megastigmusbrevivalvus and M. trisulcus, whichattack the eggs. Follow up surveysare planned in 2016 to determine ifthey have established. For more information search ‘citrusgall wasp’ on the DAFWA websiteagric.wa.gov.au

THE GIRLS AT NUMBER 13Things have beenbuzzing alongquite nicely at ourplace this lastm o n t h . T h emorning crew has96FM to listen towhile sitting ontheir backsideslaying eggs. It’salways first comebest dressed forthe laying boxes.

The afternoon shift has Classic FM tokeep them happy while they are doingtheir jobbies. It all works well. We havea choice of which sitting to take, no onecan grumble then. There are plenty of weeds from thebush which are collected by Dad andgiven to us, but only in the afternoons! Now remember that! Dad is a bit of astickler for certain things. Don’t tell himthat we blabbed, will you? He boughtus a large tree shaped seed ball to keepus going when we need a snack. Itcertainly has proven to be popular withall of us . Our Ancona sisters, Hesterand Hillary, are not laying yet. Theyjust turned their noses up and told usthey would lay when they are good andready. Lazy little devils! Dad is feedingus plentifully. The pellets arereplenished three times a day, which is

We try to colour co-ordinate our eggswhen they’re laid, ready for Dad tocollect in the afternoon. He is quiteimpressed with our industrious habits. The juvenile girls dart about the yard, getting in the way of the older girls. They must have Mazda engines, theway they ‘zoom zoom’ everywhere. These youngsters almost take the foodout of our beaks sometimes. It’s everygirl for herself at feeding time.We hope you are all keeping warmthese colder days. If not, there isalways a space on the perch at the HenManor House.Until next time, it’s cheerio from us girls.

just as well, with all of us devouring somuch. Dad calls us vacuum cleaners, there is nothing remaining after wehave been eating all he provides. Our regular dove visitors, Mr and MrsJefferies, drop by in the afternoons fora chat. They keep us up to date with alot of things that we cannot discusshere, for obvious reasons! There is some Silver beet growing forus, but it is not ready yet, according toDad. Whenever Dad is working in thevegie patch, we remind him, in nouncertain terms, to at least give us ataste. Our efforts have been in vain ORDad is short on hearing.

WaroonaFootball Clubplayers andofficials haveenjoyed a twoweek break forthe AnnualLandmarkCountryChampionshipsand will resume

Round 14 against MandurahMustangs on Saturday. Some talented players have only hadone week break as Waroona Demonsagain played their role after selectionin the Carnival Teams. Chad Wrigleyhad an outstanding Colts CountryChampionship Round Robin Carnivalnot only winning Country All Starsselection but also Fairest & Best inthe Colts Competition for the wholecarnival. His clean ball handling andfoot skills were on display on a verywet Saturday and slippery PinjarraOval for a large group of spectatorsand supporters to witness.Congratulations “Wrigs” and thefootball world is your oyster as youcontinue to progress your footballdevelopment. Other Colts squadmembers were Bradley Starr (Ruck),Zachary Moody(Centre/Mobile) andRyan Wiltshire (Forward Pocket) andcontributed to the team performance. The Peel Colts squad only won theone game but were competitive in allgames and pushed the strong SouthWest Colts team to the limit. Themove of playing Colts qualifyinggames in Mandurah and Pinjarra wasa very successful innovation by theWACFL and gave local footballfollowers a chance to witness someoutstanding Colts football despite thewet weather including hail. The PeelCavaliers Senior Squad went throughthe Country Championship unbeatenand at Medibank Stadium on Sunday10th July again defeated the SouthWest Football League whose pridewas dented as they were attemptingto win their 5th Straight Title. A strongsquad was chosen with WaroonaDemons again well represented. BenWright was co Captain with formerWAFL player Brendon Jones,Courtney Lakay Co Vice Captain,Justin Giumelli, Clay Smith, ArchieFotheringhame and Rhett Mason.Rhett Mason in particular had anoutstanding carnival as the Peelbackline “General” and wasconsidered unlucky not to be chosenin the Country Allstars with the

clearances. Waroona has lacked agenuine ruckman since Steele Courtinjured his knee almost 2 years agoagainst Pinjarra Tigers just prior thefinals in 2014.An injury to theirnominated Ruckman in the firstquarter of last years’ Grand Finalagain proved costly against SouthMandurah and compounded by prenon selection of a second big man.Liane had a great game first upagainst Halls Head three weeks agoand he is sure to make a bigdifference in the final five qualifying

WACFL selectors choosing nameplayers prior to the Carnival ratherthan recent form over the countrychampionship weekend.Unfortunately that bias towards exWAFL players has existed for the past20 years. On a more positive noteWaroona resume round 14 versusMandurah Mustangs and there islikely to be plenty of feeling in thegame with giant Ruckman LianeSpaanderman transferring toWaroona Demons on the 30th June2016 the last day of official

games giving the Demons first use ofthe ball. Coach Craig Callaghanexpects to make six changes thisweek and he is keen for the Leagueteam to start playing team footballwith the finals just six weeks away.Unless the Peel League Premiershipladder changes Waroona is likely toplay South Mandurah in theelimination final on Sunday 28th

August. Numbers on the trainingtrack will need to improve at leastonce per week during the next timeframe if the League Squad wishes toplay a major part in the finals race in2016. Injuries have played their partin numerous weekly selectionchanges with a least seven teams stillin the League Finals Race. RookieReserves Coach Marty Scott is goingabout his business quietly and if theteam continues to play team footballthey should finish in the top three

positions after qualifying and play offin the Qualifying Final. The team hasdepth and its spine has beenconsistent all year. Veteran Steve“Sav” Srhoj and Harry Ellis give themmarking power in front of goals andtime will tell if the Reserves have thepassion to complete a treble after a49 year drought in 2012 and 2014.Waroona Colts have had anindifferent year and on their day canmatch it with any team as displayed intheir Round 10 demolition of SouthMandurah. Colts Coach Glen Wilsonand his assistant Mark Spence havebeen frustrated by the teamsinconsistency but it is still a veryyoung team compared to last season.Injuries to Jack Dwyer, Caleb Sawyerand the latest to Blayne Hull with abroken wrist ending his seasontogether with League promotions hasagain caused weekly team changes.

Two recent losses by 13 points haveshown they are not far away from awinning formula and though likely toplay off in the elimination final theyare more than capable of reaching theGrand Final with a full squad availableat the business end of the season.Waroona Demons are having aspecial Ladies Day Function thisSaturday and they will be raisingfunds for “Breast Cancer” which againdemonstratesWaroonaDemons is morethan just afootball club andshares inCommunityservice andexpectations.Yours in footballForward pocket
