LITURGY OF THE WORD

The prophet Isaiah 8:23—9:3 God’s conquered people .. walking in

darkness .. will see a great light!

Psalm 26 The Lord is my light and help; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; before whom shall I shrink? There is one thing I ask of the Lord, for this I long, to live in the house of the Lord, all the days of my life, to savour the sweetness of the Lord, to behold his temple. I am sure I shall see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living. Hope in him, hold firm and take heart. Hope in the Lord!

1st Letter to Corinthians 1:10..18 Divisions, quarrels amongst

Christ’s disciples .. must end!

Matthew 4:12-23 Christ-the-light comes to the people in

darkness, choosing followers from

amongst them

NIGHT AND DAY

You came, Lord,

into our night

to turn our ways towards the dawn;

your way however remains hidden,

only the Spirit uncovers for us

your passage.

To lead us to light

you took up a body in the human shadow

into which you come.

Many would want to see and

understand: will they recognise

your light?

We say to them: “See the grain that dies;

no eye sees it,

but our hearts can divine

in the shared bread his presence.”

Then we carry to you,

like a cry,

the hope of today’s men and women;

ripen the time, hurry the day,

and may it rise on earth,

Your kingdom.

Music is an important ministry and throughout the Diocese, the time and talent of musicians is generously given to support the liturgy, the ‘source and summit’ of our Christian life. This day will provide liturgy committees, choir members, cantors and musicians with an opportunity to come and rest a while, drink at the well of living water, be inspired for the year ahead, and meet others involved in this same ministry.

There is no cost, though donations will be gratefully received.

Please register at [email protected] and remember to bring your own lunch. Coming to this event as a group from your parish, creates the opportunity for further conversation and sharing in your parish.

Ignatian Spirituality for Women

An 8 day retreat 20 – 29 March 2020. Magnificat Retreat Centre, Cross Creek Road, Featherston. Spiritual directors:

Adriana Janus, Nicola McCarthy, Joy Cowley.

Specifically designed for the other half of the church. The givers of the retreat are spiritual directors in the Ignatian tradition, and members of the NZ Ignatian Spiritual Council. We find the Ignatian Exercises, based on prayer and life experience, to be inspiring and life-giving, but recognise that some of the old masculine language needs to be altered for women.
