Watch your email for more details as the date approaches! TEXTING DURING CLASS Recently, students who are not feeling well during the school day have been texting their parents to come pick them up. Please remind your child that we need to follow the procedures outlined in all schools. Students who do not feel well must go to the health room. Our health assistant and/or cluster nurse will then assess your child and follow the correct protocol. VOLUNTEER BREAKFAST RSVP Please RSVP for the Volunteer Breakfast on June 5 th , 8-9 am to Cathy Corrao at [email protected]. LOST/DAMAGED BOOKS Be sure to ask your students if they have received a book replacement form for a lost or damaged textbook. All obligations must be taken care of at school in order to receive a final report card in the mail at the end of the year. IN-COMING 6TH GRADERS & NEW STUDENTS Watch your mail! A letter will go out to all incoming 6th graders and new students sometime this summer, outlining the details of the orientation on August 22 from 1 – 2:30 pm in the FQMS cafeteria. This orientation is for parents/guardians and students. Sixth-graders will receive their schedules at that time.

SOLES4SOULS – SHOE COLLECTION Girls on the Run of Folly Quarter is having a Soles4Souls Shoe Drive, just in time for Spring Cleaning! Please donate shoes you no longer need. We will take all styles and sizes! There is a collection box in the front lobby. Shoes will be collected

through mid-June, then delivered to the Soles4Souls warehouse. Thank you! FIRST LEGO LEAGUE COMING TO FQMS Folly Quarter MS is planning to start a First Lego League Program (FLL) for the 2014-2015 academic year. FLL provides students age 9-14 with a hands-on, interactive robotics program in a sports-like atmosphere. Teams of up to 10 players focus on team building, problem solving, creativity, and analytical thinking to develop solutions to a problem currently facing the world - the Challenge. We are looking to run the FLL program at FQMS as an after school intramural program. We are need of Parent volunteers. If you would like to volunteer to help with this activity please email Ms. Peluso at [email protected] so that we can prepare for the upcoming season. This is a great program to be involved in and we are excited to be starting it here at FQMS! To learn more about the program you can visit the website mdfirst.org

LAST GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING Please join us for the last General Membership meeting of the year for our PTA. It is Monday, June 2nd at 6:45pm in the

cafeteria. Then stay and listen to our wonderful FQMS JAZZ BAND. We will be voting on the slate of officers for next year. GHS INCOMING FRESHMAN ATHLETIC INFORMATION NIGHT On Monday, June 9th, Glenelg High School will be conducting an Athletic Information meeting for all incoming 9th graders. The meeting will take place in the GHS Auditorium at 6:00 pm. All incoming 9th graders interested in playing sports

at Glenelg HS should attend this meeting with a parent/guardian.

RHHS THEATRE PRODUCTION AUDITIONS The RHHS Theatre Arts Department announces auditions for Fall 2014 productions of “The Odd Couple” (both the male and female versions) by Neil Simon. Auditions are open to all River Hill students and will take place on June 11 in the auditorium beginning at 2:30. This includes current 8th graders who will be River Hill freshmen in the fall. Current 8th graders planning to audition should email Mrs. Land so that she can send complete information. The complete audition information packet is posted on Edmodo. RHHS SUMMER CAMPS The River Hill High School Boosters are sponsoring summer camps at River Hill High School. The camps are designed to help young athletes improve their fundamental athletic skills. For the first time, we are also offering STEM camps. Camp times for the week of June 16-20 have been adjusted to after school hours because of the extended school year. Camp forms are available in the main office at River Hill High School, at www.riverhill.org, or call 410-313-7120 for more information.

FOOD PANTRY The Glenelg United Methodist Church (GUMC) Food Pantry is open every third Saturday of the month 9-11am to

serve those in need of grocery assistance. GUMC is located at 13900 Burntwoods Road, Glenelg. Call 410-489-7260 or email [email protected]. HOWARD COUNTY FAMILY WELLNESS DAY Sunday, June 1st, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.—Centennial Park. The HCPSS once again will partner with We Promote Health for Howard County Family Wellness Day. This free event will provide students and their families with an opportunity to join with the entire community and enjoy a day of healthy outside physical activity, health education and important health screenings. More information is available online. TOWN HALL MEETING The West Friendship Elementary School PTA invites you to join us in a Town Hall meeting on June 12th at 7pm. Invited guests include County Council members Greg Fox and Courtney Watson who will speak to the community about pressing issues in our neighborhoods, such as: the Turf Valley development and the resulting effects on infrastructure, updates on the Woodmont School property, the possible future of school redistricting, an update on composting and mulching facility on Rt. 32, plus anything that you feel is an important issue to address. P.L.E.D.G.E. CAMP – HOWARD COUNTY POLICE Open to 8th graders, this is a free one-week Leadership Camp sponsored by the Howard County Police. Two sessions: July 21-25 and August 4-8. Registration Packets are in the Student Services Office at FQMS. GLENELG SUMMER SPORTS CAMP The Glenelg High School Booster’s Club is once again pleased to offer summer sports camp instruction. The emphasis is on developing important fundamentals through many activities, challenging games and small-sided-scrimmages. The minimum player-to-player ratio is 1 to 1, and all participants will be grouped according to age and ability. All camps will be instructed by GHS Coaching Staff. Camps are limited to incoming 6th through incoming 9th graders (School year 2014-2015), current 5th through 8th graders. Payment-Cost: All camps are $175.00 per camp, per camper.
