Editorial

By the time you read this missive, Obama will have been inaugurated asUS President and the Israeli slaughter of Palestinians either will have

ceased, for the time being, or will have escalated. In other words, as we goto print in mid-January, the world looks to be at a precarious tipping point.

Mind you, we have been at many such "tipping points" over the past 30years, where planned global war and total economic collapse were justhours away. And on more than one occasion, the state of Israel has been acentral pawn in the game plan. Take the attempted sinking of the USSLiberty in 1967 as one example, where World War III would have surelyresulted if that ship had actually sunk. Makes you wonder just what forcesare at work there.

It is a sad fact that there are powerful forces at work, behind the scenes,that want to bring on the programmed concept of Armageddon and the "endtimes". Why? Well, some of them are brainwashed fanatics who believethat such times will bring the Messiah back to elevate their people to ruling-class status or to deliver punishment to the unbelievers. However, manybelieve that a good war (accompanied by some man-made diseases, such asthe so-called Spanish flu of 1918) is necessary to reduce the populationdown to a more "manageable" level.

It surely looks like somebody or something has an investment in oursuffering, anguish and emotional concerns, because we see decision afterdecision being made on our behalf which simply furthers the nonsense.

And yet if the hidden power elites chose to, they could turn this planetinto a paradise overnight and send mankind to the stars in peace. Instead,they have sought to rule in secrecy, creating conflicting belief systems andreligions, setting up secret societies filled with power junkies and hidingevidence of mankind's true history.

I hear the concept echoed that mankind is not "ready" or "mature" enoughto leave Earth, that we are too warlike and materialistic. This may be anaccurate observation if we are honest, but I really wonder how much of thisstate of affairs has been manipulated so that we stay this way. I, for one,believe that if mankind were shown our true history and our true potential,and could see through the deliberately placed obstacles of conflict (bothinternal and external), we would soar with growth and wonder. So as theinexorable march towards a global government, a global currency and aglobal belief system/religion (my money is on "science" to become the newreligion) continues at a faster and faster pace, we are unlikely to get muchtruth about anything, unless it serves a manipulated, purposeful outcome.

It's up to the individual to work it out. To this end, we offer another issuepacked with information that we think may help you in this endeavour. Thefact that there are still people out there who are willing and able to try to seethrough the manufactured illusions and obstacles gives me theencouragement to have another go at making a difference in this crazyworld we live in. I apologise for not being more descriptive about the greatarticles in this issue, but today I awoke with the feeling that I wanted to tellGod that mankind is basically "good" and doesn't deserve beingmanipulated by beings with advanced technology and information. Butthen I remembered that life is the journey, not the destination...

Cancer Fungus EpidemicDear Duncan: I had intended

to write this letter earlier in2008, but perhaps now is moretimely. My name is John F. Iam a subscriber to NEXUSMagazine and a fervent believerthat it may be the best sourceof stimulating material ontopics as important as cancerprevention and treatment,technology-related scandals andcredible "new age" writings.

But this letter is both anacknowledgement of theimportance of the subject ofcancer treatment and a requestto you, as NEXUS Editor, toorganise a meeting for the openand professional discussion ofDr Simoncini's thesis.

After reading the article inNEXUS [vol. 14, no. 5], Ivisited Dr Simoncini in Romein September 2007. Ipurchased his book Cancer is aFungus, written in Italian, andwaded through the entire bookusing my fluent but imperfectItalian. The book, to me, ismore than a mere reinforcementof Simoncini's thesis: it is,perhaps, a passionate treatiseon a subject that all too often istorn between the interests ofpride and prejudice.

In addition to the book, Ihave read or listened tointerviews given by the authorto medical personalities in boththe US and Europe...

I suggest a seminar or panel,organised by NEXUS, with anopen forum as you had inAmsterdam, to allow questionsfrom the audience...

If Dr Simoncini's work wereon a matter of lessconsequence, I would not bewriting this letter. Yourmagazine has offered its readersother stimulating topics toponder—some extreme andsome very sombre. It has notbeen shy as to its taking on the"establishment".

No one is suggesting that

any seminar by NEXUS mightbe accepted as a certification ordamnation of any technicalthesis. What I am saying andproposing, however, is that amedium like NEXUS, andparticularly NEXUS, is highlyqualified to break the currentdeadlock on such importantissues as cancer treatment.

Filtering out Fluoride Hi, Duncan: I just had to

write to you regarding fluoridein the Brisbane water supply(see Letters, vol. 16, no. 1).

Your reply is not quite right.It is possible to purchase a"whole house filter" which willgive you a fluoride-free shower.It is also quite easy, at least fora qualified plumber, to hookup a rainwater tank pump toyour shower rose, but you willprobably need to install an"instant heater shower rose" ora separate water heatingsystem unless you like coldshowers. Just Google "fluoridefilters"; there is a wealth ofinformation there.

You are quite right in whatyou say about reverse osmosis(RO) and distilled water, butthere is a third way to removefluoride: activated alumina.Using these filters as a pre- orpost-filter to a standard whole-house carbon or RO set-up willdo the trick. It's just a matterof searching the web.Keywords I used were "fluoridefilters", "activated alumina" and

"whole house filters".I guess the bottom line is:

how far are you prepared to goto avoid drinking fluoridatedwater? None of these optionsis cheap, and most are fromoverseas. I still think thehumble water tank is the mostsensible option.

Just for ther record, I've beena dedicated reader of NEXUS forthe last eight years, and I'venever missed an issue. Keepup the good work.

Rise in UFO Sightings Hello! I love your magazine

and have been a reader for yearsnow. I have a question and itrelates to UFOs. We live in avery small country town andoften sit on our verandah atdusk and see what we call"flyers". These lights are notplanes or helicopters. Theymake no sound and sometimesfly high up, only barelyvisible. Sometimes there aremore than one. Then we seesome that fly in and are verybright—as bright as Venus.Their speed is astonishing.

I have been recording themon a calendar and I note that ourUFO sightings are morecommon than "falling star"sightings. We make it anevening treat to sit and watchthem. Has anyone else outthere had, or is having, similarsightings?

I would like to add that allGM crops use Agrobacteriumto transfer target DNA to thehost. The scientists then usean antibiotic to kill theAgrobacterium . Problem is,studies show the antibiotic doesnot kill the Agrobacterium andthe Agrobacterium is still alivein the GM crop.Agrobacterium easily infectshumans, animals and plants. Italso causes crown gall oneucalyptus trees.

Feline ElectrosensitivityHi Duncan: I am a retired

electronics engineer and wasexperimenting in myworkshop, attempting toreplicate Tesla's extra-high-voltage, very short DC pulsesand their accompanyingphenomena.

My cat was sittingcontentedly on the carpetedfloor nearby. As soon as Istarted up the pulses, about twoper second at 30,000 volts—very heavy amperage butmicroseconds long—my cathad a seizure, a fit. Hespasmed violently, shaking hispaws and head all over the placeand drooling, his tonguehanging out. His eyes werelike searchlights.

I quickly turned off theequipment. After 30 seconds,my cat stopped gyrating andslowly returned to normal,gradually losing an asthmatic-sounding breathing. He wasvery disoriented for about fiveminutes after.

Ten minutes later, I resumedmy testing. Again my cat hadanother fit, so I again turned offthe equipment. Coincidence?

Next day, my cat was in theworkshop again. I started upthe equipment and immediatelyhe started twitching his headviolently, so straight away Iturned off the power. This timehe was alright.

My equipment deliversextremely powerful pulses and Ihave to disconnect my Brotheranswer-phone machine inadvance or it loses its"memory"!

Whilst I felt nothing,obviously som ething isextending beyond the bench.

It also includes a descriptionof an electric generator designedby Michael Faraday that couldnot be simpler. A copper discis rotated with a horseshoemagnet placed in such a waythat the edge of the copper discis between the north and southpoles. When the disc isrotated, the edge will build up anegative charge that can besiphoned off to perform usefulwork. It's one example of asimple design that works.

How many others like ithave fallen through the cracks

of the patent office system?Perhaps someone should makea systematic search of allpatents that have now expired,and are therefore in the publicdomain, for energytechnologies that are waiting tobe rediscovered.

IRRADIATED PET FOODLINKED TO CAT DEATHS

The Canadian manufacturerat the centre of a local pet

food scare caused byparalysis in more than 40 catshas placed the blame squarelyon the shoulders of theAustralian government.

Champion Petfoods, ofAlberta, said it was pullingout of the Australian marketafter independent tests from aUS laboratory on its Orijenbrand of cat food showed thatdangerous levels ofirradiation mandated by theAustralian governmentappeared to be to blame forthe outbreak of serious illnessamong Australian cats.

Citing a US study last year whichfound that levels between 36 and 47kilograys (kGy) of cobalt-60 gammarays were linked to neurologicalsymptoms similar to those found inthe affected Australian cats, the petfood company said the minimumlevel of 50 kGy demanded by theAustralian government for theimported product was clearlyexcessive and had possibly led to aserious depletion of vitamin A.

The only human foods approved forirradiation in Australia are imported

herbs and spices, irradiated at 10 to30 kGy, and tropical fruit, irradiatedat no more than 1 kGy.

SUPERPOWERS REFUSE TO SIGN TREATY ON

CLUSTER BOMBS

The United States, Russia andChina are sending a terrible

message to the rest of the world byrefusing to take part in the historicsigning of a treaty that bans the

production and use of clusterbombs.

In a world that is plaguedby war, military occupationand terrorism, theinvolvement of the greatmilitary powers in signingand ratifying the agreementwould have signalled, if evensymbolically, the willingnessof these countries to sparecivilians' unjustifiable deathsand the lasting scars of war.

Nonetheless, the incessantactivism of manyconscientious individuals andorganisations came tofruition in December 2008when 93 countries signed atreaty in Oslo, Norway, that

bans the weapon, which has killedand maimed tens of thousands ofcivilians across the globe.

The accord will go into effect onceit is ratified by 30 countries. There islittle doubt that the treaty will beratified; in fact, many are eager to bea member of the elite group of thirty.

Unfortunately, albeit unsurprisingly,the US, Russia, China, Israel, Indiaand Pakistan—a group that includesthe biggest makers and users of thecluster bomb weapons—neitherattended negotiations nor showed anyinterest in signing the agreement.

Antarctica's glaciers have a secretcontroller: a network of lakes

beneath the ice that accelerates theirflow during hidden floods.

Recent satellite observations haveshown ice sheets appearing to"breathe" up and down in someregions—a motion shown to be linkedto the ebb and flow of a network ofice rivers and lakes deep below theice.

Now Leigh Stearns of the


University of Maine, Orono, and hercolleagues have collected the firstdirect evidence that floods in thisnetwork can affect the speed ofglaciers flowing into the sea.

They tracked the ocean-boundmovement of East Antarctica's ByrdGlacier and events in two lakes thatlie beneath it, and found that theglacier sped up between late 2005 andmid-2007, precisely when satelliteimaging showed that both lakes wereoverflowing.

"The extra water can't escape fastenough, so it spreads out beneath theglacier bed and reduces the frictionbetween the ice and the rock,allowing the glacier to slide faster,"says Stearns.

ELECTRICITY SPARKS STEM-CELLTRANSFORMATION

The activity of stem cells, prizedfor their ability to differentiate

into any cell type in the body, can becontrolled by manipulating cellularelectrical signals.

At present, researchers expose stemcells to nutrients and growth factorsto trigger differentiation and controlwhat type of cell they will become.

But when David Kaplan of TuftsUniversity, Boston, and colleaguesdiscovered voltage changes in adulthuman stem cells as the cellsnaturally differentiated into fat andbone, they wondered if changing thevoltage could control a cell's fate.

Sure enough, when they blockedion flow in a fresh batch of cells,differentiation was suppressed, whileadding chemicals that increase thevoltage across cell membranes spedup their transformation.

The group hopes to use this methodto control stem cell differentiationmore precisely when using the cells tobuild organs for transplantation.

FDA SCIENTISTS CLAIM MASSIVECORRUPTION

Scientists with the US Food andDrug Administration (FDA) have

become so fed up with the criminalbehaviour of their own administrationthat they've filed a strongly wordedcomplaint with President-electObama, alleging that the FDA hasbeen deeply "corrupted anddistorted".

The letter explains that FDAmanagers are "placing the Americanpeople at risk" by using tactics ofintimidation to censor scientificdebate within the FDA, and that FDAmanagers "have ignored serioussafety and effectiveness concerns ofFDA experts".

The letter goes on to explain:"Managers have ordered, intimidatedand coerced FDA experts to modifyscientific evaluations, conclusionsand recommendations in violation ofthe laws, rules and regulations, and toaccept clinical and technical data thatis not scientifically valid."

In other words, the FDA is beingrun like a criminal mob operationwith a complete disregard for actualscience.

BACTERIAL DETERGENTS MAYSTIMULATE RAINFALL

Bacteria seem to release a powerfuldetergent into the atmosphere that

may be one of nature's most powerfulrain-makers.

Studies have already shown thatbacteria can affect cloud formation,and now Barbara Nozière ofStockholm University, Sweden, andcolleagues suggest that surfactantssecreted by many species of bacteriacould also influence the weather.

The team discovered that bacteriareduce the surface tension of waterbetter than any other substance innature. This led them to suspect thatif the detergent were found in clouds,it would stimulate the formation ofwater droplets, causing rainfall.

Nozière collected air samples over acoastal region, an ocean, a forest anda jungle at locations in Brazil,Sweden and Finland. Particles in allthe samples contained minuteamounts of detergent with a chemicalstructure that resembled thesurfactants. It also broke down thewater into droplets in the same way.

Nozière suggests that the bacteriamay be helping to keep theatmosphere healthy and active.

BLUE STREET LIGHTS MAY PREVENT CRIME, SUICIDE

Blue street lights are believed to beuseful in preventing suicides and

street crime, a finding that isencouraging an increasing number ofrailway companies to install blue-light-emitting apparatus at stations toprevent people from committingsuicide by jumping in front of trains.

Glasgow, Scotland, introduced bluestreet lighting to improve the city'slandscape in 2000. Afterward, thenumber of crimes in areas illuminatedin blue noticeably decreased.

The Nara, Japan, prefectural policeset up blue street lights in theprefecture in 2005, and found thenumber of crimes decreased by aboutnine per cent in blue-illuminatedneighbourhoods.

Many other areas nationwide havefollowed suit.

West Japan Railway Co. introducedblue lighting at its facilities when itbecame concerned by cars attemptingto traverse railway crossings despitethe approach of trains.

A spokesman for the company said:"We're confident that blue lighting iseffective to a certain extent inpreventing suicide."

STUDY CONFIRMS THAT GENES DON'T CAUSE CANCER

Astudy completed at the IoanninaSchool of Medicine in Greece

analysed hundreds of studies thatclaimed to have "discovered" genesthat cause cancer, and it found that,out of 240 claimed associationsbetween genes and cancer risk, onlytwo genes actually had any significantcorrelation at all.

Put another way, over 99 per cent ofthe claims about genes causing cancerdon't hold up to scientific scrutiny.

By blaming genes for disease,doctors can disempower patients andconvince them that they have nocontrol over their own health.

The truth is that you can be free ofcancer regardless of your geneticcode, because it is the expression ofthose genes that matters. And guesswhat controls the expression of yourgenes? Your nutrition, diet, lifestylechoices and avoidance of cancer-causing chemicals in foods, drugs,cosmetics and personal care products.

In other words, you have probably99 per cent control over whether youget cancer or not. But the corruptcancer industry wants you to thinkyou actually have zero control.

THE FACTS ABOUT HAMAS ANDTHE WAR ON GAZA

The record is clear. You can find it onthe Israeli Ministry of Foreign

Affairs website. Israel broke theceasefire by going into Gaza and killingsix or seven Palestinian militants. Atthat point—to quote the official Israeliwebsite—Hamas, in retaliation for theIsraeli attack, then launched the missiles.

According to Ha'aretz, DefenceMinister Barak began plans for thisinvasion in March 2008—which isbefore the ceasefire even began. Thereasons for the invasion, I think, aretwofold: (1) to enhance what Israelcalls its "deterrence capacity" (after theIsraelis' defeat in July 2006 inLebanon, they felt it important totransmit the message that Israel is stilla fighting force); (2) because Hamaswas signalling that it wanted adiplomatic settlement of the conflictalong the June 1967 border. Israel,faced with what Israelis call a"Palestinian peace offensive", sought todismantle Hamas.

The problem all along has been thatIsrael doesn't want Gaza to developand doesn’t want to resolve the conflictdiplomatically, whereas the leadershipsin Damascus and in Gaza haverepeatedly made statements that they'rewilling to settle the conflict on the June1967 border.

Every year, the UN GeneralAssembly votes on a resolution entitled"Peaceful Settlement of the PalestineQuestion". And every year the vote isthe same: it's the whole world on oneside, and Israel, the USA, Nauru,Palau, Micronesia, the Marshall Islandsand Australia on the other side.

All 22 members of the Arab Leaguefavour a two-state settlement on theJune 1967 border. The PalestinianAuthority favours a two-statesettlement on the June 1967 border.We now have Hamas favouring thattwo-state settlement on the June 1967border.

issue raised at Camp David, and thenin Taba, at every single point, all theconcessions came from thePalestinians, who have repeatedlyexpressed a willingness to settle theconflict in accordance withinternational law.

This law is very clear. In July 2004,the highest judicial body in the world,the UN International Court of Justice(ICJ), ruled that Israel has no title toany of the West Bank and any of Gaza.It has no title to Jerusalem. Arab EastJerusalem, according to the ICJ, isOccupied Palestinian Territory. TheCourt ruled that all the [Israeli]settlements in the West Bank [andPalestinian territory] are illegal underinternational law.

The obstacle is the refusal of Israel,backed by the US government, toabide by international law, to abide bythe opinion of the internationalcommunity.

The US Treasury's Financial Bail-out

It is becoming clear that the bail-out measures of late 2008 mayhave consequences at least as grave for an open society as theresponse to 9/11 in 2001. Many members of US Congress feltcoerced into voting against their inclinations, and the normal

procedures for orderly consideration of a bill were dispensed with.The excuse for bypassing normal legislative procedures was the existence of

an emergency. But one of the most reprehensible features of the legislation,that it allowed Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to permit bailed-outinstitutions to use public money for exorbitant salaries and bonuses, wasinserted by Paulson after the immediate crisis had passed.

According to Congressman Peter Welch (D-Vermont), the bail-out billoriginally called for a cap on executive salaries, but Paulson changed therequirement at the last minute. Welch and other members of Congress wereenraged by "news that banks getting taxpayer-funded bailouts are still payingexorbitant salaries, bonuses, and other benefits". In addition, as AssociatedPress reported on 25 October 2008, "Sen. Charles Schumer, D-NY, questionedallowing banks that accept bailout bucks to continue paying dividends ontheir common stock. 'There are far better uses of taxpayer dollars thancontinuing dividend payments to shareholders,' he said."

Even more reprehensible is that, since the bail-outs, Paulson and theTreasury Department have refused to provide details of the Troubled AssetsRelief Program spending of hundreds of billions of dollars, and the FederalReserve Bank of New York has refused to provide information about its ownbail-out (using government-backed loans) that amounts to trillions. This lackof transparency has been challenged by Fox TV in an FOIA suit against theTreasury Department and by Bloomberg News in a suit against the Fed..

The financial bail-out legislation of September 2008 was only passed aftermembers of both congressional houses were warned that failure to act wouldthreaten civil unrest and the imposition of martial law...

The US Army's new role Given that threats of martial law were used to get this reprehensible bail-out

legislation passed, it is entirely appropriate to link such talk to the Army'srapid moves to redefine its role as one of controlling the American people, notjust protecting them. In a constitutional polity based on balance of powers,we see the emergence of a radical new military power that is as yetcompletely unbalanced.

This new role for the Army is not wholly unprecedented. The US militaryhas been training troops and police in "civil disturbance planning" for the lastthree decades. The master plan, Department of Defense Civil DisturbancePlan 55-2, or "Operation Garden Plot", was developed in 1968 in response tothe major protests and disturbances of the 1960s.

But on 19 January 2001, on the last day of the Clintonadministration, the US Army promulgated a new andpermanent Continuity of Operations (COOP) Program.It encapsulated its difference from the preceding,externally oriented, Army Survival, Recovery, andReconstitution System (ASRRS) as follows [chapter 3-1]:

a. In 1985, the Chief of Staff of the Armyestablished the Army Survival, Recovery, andReconstitution System (ASRRS) to ensure thecontinuity of essential Army missions and functions.ASRRS doctrine was focused primarily on a responseto the worst case 1980's threat of a massive nuclearlaydown on CONUS [continental USA] as a result ofa confrontation with the Soviet Union.

b. The end of the Cold War and the breakup of theformer Soviet Union significantly reduced theprobability of a major nuclear attack on CONUS butthe probability of otherthreats has increased.Army organizations must beprepared for anycontingency with a potentialfor interruption of normaloperations . [Author'semphasis] To emphasizethat Army continuity ofoperations planning is nowfocused on the full all-hazards threat spectrum, thename "ASRRS" has beenreplaced by the moregeneric title "Continuity of Operations (COOP)Program".

This document embodied the secret Continuity ofGovernment (COG) planning conducted secretly byDonald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney and others through the1980s and 1990s. This planning was initially forcontinuity measures in the event of a nuclear attack butsoon called for suspension of the Constitution, not just"after a nuclear war" but for any "national securityemergency". This was defined in President Reagan'sExecutive Order 12656 of 18 November 1988 as "anyoccurrence, including natural disaster, military attack,technological emergency, or other emergency, thatseriously degrades or seriously threatens the nationalsecurity of the United States" [Preamble, Sn 101(a)].The effect was to impose on domestic civil society theextreme measures once planned for a response to anuclear attack from abroad.

In like fashion, Army Regulation AR 500-3 clarifiedthat it was a plan for "the execution of mission-essentialfunctions without unacceptable interruption during anational security or domestic emergency". [Author'semphasis]

Rumsfeld, who as a private citizen had helped author

the COG planning, promptly signed [as Secretary ofDefense] the revised AR 500-3. Eight months later, on9/11, Cheney and Rumsfeld implemented COG, asignificant event of which we still know next to nothing.What we do know is that plans began almostimmediately—as foreseen by COG planning in the1980s—to implement warrantless surveillance anddetention of large numbers of civilians, and that inJanuary 2002 the Pentagon submitted a proposal fordeploying troops on American streets.

Then, in April 2002, Department of Defense officialsimplemented a plan for domestic US military operationsby creating a new US Northern Command(USNORTHCOM) for continental USA. In short, whatwere being implemented were the most prominentfeatures of the COG planning which Oliver North hadworked on in the 1980s.

Deep Events and PartyChanges in the White House

Like so many other significantsteps since World War II towardsa military–industrial state, theArmy's Regulation 500-3surfaced in the last days of adeparting administration (in thiscase, the very last day). It isworth noticing that, ever sincethe 1950s, dubious events—ofthe unpublic variety, which I call"deep events"—have marked thelast months before a change of

party in the White House. These deep events havetended (a) to constrain the incoming President if theincomer is a Democrat or, alternatively, (b) to pave theway for the incomer if he is a Republican...

Both the financial bail-out extorted from Congress andthe escalated preparations for martial law can be seen astransitional events of category (a). Whatever theexplanations for their timing, these events will constrainBarack Obama's freedom to make his own policies asPresident. I fear, moreover, that they may have theconsequence of easing the United States into unforeseenescalations of the war in Afghanistan.

Intensive, Quiet Preparations for Martial LawLet us deal first with the preparations for martial law.

On 30 September 2008, the Army Times announced theredeployment of an active US Army Brigade CombatTeam from Iraq to America in a new mission that "maybecome a permanent part of the active Army":

The 3rd Infantry Division's 1st Brigade CombatTeam has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraqpatrolling in full battle rattle, helping restoreessential services and escorting supply convoys.

Now they're training for the same mission—with atwist—at home.


The effect was to impose ondomestic civil society theextreme measures once

planned for a response to anuclear attack from abroad.

Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months, the 1st BCT willbe under the day-to-day control of US Army North,the Army service component of Northern Command,as an on-call federal response force for natural ormanmade emergencies and disasters, includingterrorist attacks...

After 1st BCT finishes its dwell-time mission,expectations are that another, as yet unnamed,active-duty brigade will take over and that themission will be a permanent one...

They may be called upon to help with civil unrestand crowd control...

This announcement followed by two weeks the talk ofcivil unrest and martial law that was used to panicCongress into passing Paulson's bail-out legislation. Not only that, the twounprecedented events mirror eachother: the bail-out debate anticipatedcivil unrest and martial law, while theannounced positioning of an activeBrigade Combat Team on US soilanticipated civil unrest (such as mightresult from the bail-out legislation).

Then, according to Agence France-Presse on 17 December 2008, USNorthern Command chief GeneralRenuart announced that "the USmilitary plans to mobilize thousands oftroops to protect Washingtonagainst potential terrorist attackduring the inauguration ofpresident-elect Barack Obama".

The US Army War College hasalso raised the possibility of theUS Army being used to controlcivil unrest, according to thePhoenix Business Journal (15December 2008):

A new report by the USArmy War College talks aboutthe possibility of Pentagonresources and troops beingused should the economic crisis lead to civil unrest,such as protests against businesses and governmentor runs on beleaguered banks.

"Widespread civil violence inside the United Stateswould force the defense establishment to reorientpriorities in extremis to defend basic domestic orderand human security," said the War College report.

The study says economic collapse, terrorism andloss of legal order are among possible domesticshocks that might require military action within theUS.

It is clear that there has been a sustained move in thedirection of martial law preparations, a trend that has

been as continuous as it has been unheralded. SenatorLeahy was thus right to draw our attention to it back on29 September 2006, in his objections to the final form ofthe Fiscal Year 2007 National Defense AuthorizationAct, which gave the President increased power to call upthe National Guard for law enforcement:

It...should concern us all that the Conferenceagreement includes language that subverts solid,longstanding posse comitatus statutes that limit themilitary's involvement in law enforcement, therebymaking it easier for the President to declare martiallaw. There is good reason for the constructivefriction in existing law when it comes to martial lawdeclarations.

This quiet agglomeration of militarypower has not "just growed likeTopsy" through inadvertence. It showssustained intention, even if no one hasmade a public case for it.

Bush Administration ProtectedPredatory Lending

Let us now consider the financialcrisis and the panic bail-out. No oneshould think that the crisis wasunforeseen. Back in February 2008,Eliot Spitzer, in one of his last acts asGovernor of New York, warned about

the impending crisis created bypredatory lending and revealedthat the Bush administration wasblocking state efforts to deal withit. His extraordinary warning inthe 14 February Washington Postis worth quoting at some length:

Several years ago, stateattorneys general and othersinvolved in consumerprotection began to notice amarked increase in a range ofpredatory lending practicesby mortgage lenders...

Even though predatory lending was becoming anational problem, the Bush administration looked theother way and did nothing to protect Americanhomeowners. In fact, the government chose insteadto align itself with the banks that were victimizingconsumers...

...Several state legislatures, including New York's,enacted laws aimed at curbing such practices...

...Not only did the Bush administration do nothingto protect consumers, it embarked on an aggressiveand unprecedented campaign to prevent states fromprotecting their residents from the very problems towhich the federal government was turning a blindeye.


...Eliot Spitzer, inone of his last acts

as Governor of New York, warned

about the impendingcrisis created by

predatory lendingand revealed that the Bush administration

was blocking stateefforts to deal

with it.

Let me explain: The administration accomplishedthis feat through an obscure federal [Treasury]agency called the Office of the Comptroller of theCurrency (OCC). The OCC has been in existencesince the Civil War. Its mission is to ensure the fiscalsoundness of national banks. For 140 years, theOCC examined the books of national banks to makesure they were balanced, an important butuncontroversial function. But a few years ago, forthe first time in its history, the OCC was used as atool against consumers.

In 2003, during the height of the predatory lendingcrisis, the OCC invoked a clause from the 1863National Bank Act to issue formalopinions preempting all statepredatory lending laws, therebyrendering them inoperative. TheOCC also promulgated new rulesthat prevented states fromenforcing any of their ownconsumer protection laws againstnational banks. The federalgovernment's actions were soegregious and so unprecedentedthat all 50 state attorneys general,and all 50 state bankingsuperintendents, actively foughtthe new rules.

But the unanimousopposition of the 50 states didnot deter, or even slow, theBush administration in itsgoal of protecting the banks.In fact, when my officeopened an investigation ofpossible discrimination inmortgage lending by anumber of banks, the OCCfiled a federal lawsuit to stopthe investigation...

Eliot Spitzer submitted his op-ed to the Washington Post on 13 February. If it had animpact, it was not the one Spitzer had hoped for. On 10March, the New York Times broke the story of Spitzer'sencounter with a prostitute. According to a 21 MarchTimes story, "on Feb. 13 [the day Spitzer's op-ed went upon the Washington Post website] federal agents stakedout his hotel in Washington".

It is remarkable that the mainstream media foundSpitzer's private life to be big news, but not his chargesthat Paulson's Treasury was prolonging the financialcrisis, or the relation of these charges to Spitzer'sexposure...

After Spitzer's op-ed was published, according tojournalist Greg Palast (14 March) the Federal Reserve"...for the first time in its history, loaned [sic] a selected

coterie of banks one-fifth of a trill ion dollars toguarantee these banks' mortgage-backed junk bonds.The deluge of public loot was an eye-popping windfall tothe very banking predators who have brought two millionfamilies to the brink of foreclosure."

Funding the American EmpireWhat are we to make of Spitzer's charge that the Bush

administration interfered to pre-empt state laws againstpredatory lending, and of the fact that the mainstreammedia did not report that? A petty motive for the OCC'sbehaviour in 2003 might have been to allow the housingbubble to continue through 2003 and 2004, thus

facilitating Bush's re-election. But thepersistence of Treasury obstructionthereafter, despite the unanimousopposition of all 50 states, and thecontinuing silence of the media aboutthis disagreement suggest that somebroader policy intention may havebeen at stake.

One is struck by the similarities withthe Savings and Loan scandal whichwas allowed to continue through theReagan 1980s, long after it becameapparent that deliberate bankruptcywas being used by unscrupulousprofiteers to amass illegal fortunes at

what was ultimately publicexpense.

In the same way, the long-drawn-out housing bubble, andparticularly the derivative bubblethat was floated upon it, allowedthe Bush administration to helpoffset the trillion-dollar-plus costof its Iraq misadventure bycreating spurious securities thatsold for hundreds of billions, notjust in the United States butthrough the rest of the world.

In the long run, this was not asustainable source of wealth for America's financialclass, which is now suffering like everyone else from theconsequent recession. But in the short run, the financialcrisis and bail-out made it possible for Bush to wage acostly war without experiencing the kind of debilitatinginflation that was brought on by America's Vietnam War.

The trillion-dollar meltdown, in other words, can berationalised as having helped finance the war in Iraq.When we turn to the martial law preparations, however,we find that they are being made in anticipation of civilunrest in the future. Why such intense preparation forthis?

The obvious answer, of course, is memory of therioting that occurred in San Francisco and elsewhereduring the Great Depression of the 1930s. Indeed, that

thought may be uppermost among those who recentlyarranged for the redeployment of a Brigade CombatTeam from Iraq to America.

But the planning for martial law in America dates backalmost three decades, from the days when Reaganappointed Rumsfeld, Cheney and others to plan secretlyfor what was misleadingly called "Continuity [i.e.,Change] of Government". Concern about the 2008recession cannot have been on their minds then, or on theminds of those who introduced the Army's Continuity ofOperations Program on 19 January 2001. Instead, the"full all-hazards threat spectrum" envisaged in thatdocument was clearly ancillary to the doctrine of "full-spectrum dominance" that had been articulated in theJoint Chiefs of Staff blueprint, Joint Vision 2020,endorsed eight months earlier on 30 May 2000.

The interest of Cheney and Rumsfeld in COGplanning, including planning for martial law, alsoenvisaged full-spectrum dominance. This is made clearby their simultaneous engagement in the 1990s in thepublic Project for the NewAmerican Century (PNAC).PNAC's goals were stated veryexplicitly in its [September2000] document RebuildingAmerica's Defenses : ". . . toincrease defense spending so asto establish America's militarypresence throughout the worldas an unchallengeable power.This would entail permanent USforces in central as well as eastAsia, even after thedisappearance of SaddamHussein."

In short, PNAC's program was a blueprint for apermanent overseas American empire, a project theauthors recognised would not be easily accepted by anAmerican democracy. Their call frankly acknowledgedthat it would be difficult to gain support for theirprojected increase in defence spending to "a minimumlevel of 3.5 to 3.8 percent of gross domestic product,adding $15 billion to $20 billion to total defensespending annually". The document admitted: "...theprocess of transformation is likely to be a long one,absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event—like anew Pearl Harbor..."

Repeating the Mistakes of History?Progressive societies (in this era, usually democracies)

tend to expand their presence beyond their geographicboundaries. This expanded presence calls for newinstitutions, usually (like the CIA) free from democraticaccountability. This accretion of unaccountable power,in what I have elsewhere called "the deep state", disruptsthe public state's system of checks and balances which isthe underpinning of sane, deliberative policy.

We might expect of progressive democracies that theywould evolve towards more and more rational foreignpolicies. But because of the dialectic just described,what we see is the exact opposite: evolution towardsfoolish and sometimes disastrous engagements.

When Britain became more democratic in the late 19thcentury, it also initiated the Boer War—a war very suitedto the private imperial needs of Cecil Rhodes, butirrelevant if not deleterious to the interests of the Britishpeople.

Yet hisnational security adviser,Zbigniew Brzezinski, initiatedmanoeuvres in Afghanistan thatled to the largest CIA covert

operation (and in my view, one of the most deleterious)of all time.

Note from Ed Ring, Editor, EcoWorld.com: We have beenpublishing more material than ever on the subject of climate change,for a very simple reason: the debate is not over as to the cause, theeventual severity or the remedies for climate change. The debate

never was over, and for the mainstream press ever to have acceded to the notionthat debate was over, or to condone marginalising anyone who continued todebate, is one of the most egregious examples of media bias in history.

One should think that given what is at stake—the reorganisation of our entirepolitical and economic systems—debate would be welcomed. One would thinkthat those who are calling for debate and discussion would be heralded asvoices of moderation and reason, instead of being branded as ideologicalfanatics and corporate shills. The fact that debate is supposedly "over"regarding something for which the remedy is so fundamentally and abruptlytransformative should concern anyone who claims to care about human rights,individual freedoms, free enterprise and an open society. The idea that anyonewho questions global warming alarmism is freely demonised should concernany student of history. The solution—government control over virtuallyanything that emits a gas, including CO2, which plants and trees require for theirvery survival, and huge new taxes (perhaps disguised in the form of WallStreet–friendly "cap and trade" mechanisms, but the consumer still pays thefreight)—should concern anyone who cares about representative governmentand values the concept of private property.

Perhaps it is common sense that is endangered here. If the Earth is indeedwarming because of anthropogenic CO2, what can be done? Shall we sequester20–30 gigatons of CO2 every year, when for the amount of money that wouldcost we could clean up every river, stop overfishing the oceans, eliminate everycriteria air pollutant and fight malaria to a standstill? Even acceptingconclusions of climate models—problematic concoctions that constitute the"scientific" imperative behind AGW [anthropogenic global warming] alarmismand consequent policy—isn't it true that we would have to sequester literally 80per cent of the CO2 currently attributed to human activity? Isn't thatimpossible? Why not reforest the planet? Why not restore the mangroveforests that used to stop tidal surges throughout the coastal tropics so they couldregenerate and again stop seasonal storms from inundating tropical islands, andwhy not stop blowing up coral reefs to flush the cash crop of fish? There is alegitimate environmental agenda completely apart from global warmingalarm—and there are many sceptics who nonetheless care deeply about theenvironment.

Common sense would suggest we question the agenda of the global warmingalarmists who rely on fear and questionable science, not that of the sceptics. Ifthere is a "denial industry", who would benefit? A handful of underfundedthink-tanks? If there is a hidden agenda, it is more likely coming from the"alarm industry".

Government agencies get more tax revenue, the UnitedNations gets a revenue stream, insurance companiescollect higher premiums, attorneys file more lawsuits,Wall Street gets a new source of commissions and fees,corporations get more subsidies, various environmentalistnonprofits, activists, academics, politicians andprofessional consultants acquire a game-changing newsource of funding and influence, small businesses getdestroyed because they can't afford to comply with thenew regulations, and families everywhere pay punitiveprices for energy, water and land. Is this the future wewant? Maybe, if all of this AGW alarmism were true!

The 2008 International Conference on Climate Changedescribed in this feature, held in earlyMarch in New York City, featured someof the most credible (and credentialled)people ever to convene at a climate-related event. Their presentations onclimate science were diverse, as befits ascientific conference, and most of theparticipants were "sceptics", somethingthat also befits a scientific conference.But despite the report's description ofthis event as being well covered by themedia, in reality it was not. For themost part, the media ignored this event.

The comparison that is valid is notwhether or not a few of themainstream media outlets reportedon this event, but whether or notthis event got the level of attentionthat the most recent UnitedNations IPCC (IntergovernmentalPanel on Climate Change) pressrelease garnered, and by thatmeasure coverage was nonexistent.And in too many cases, coveragewas slanted to present a smarmy,derisive characterisation of theevent as a final gasp of the "FlatEarthers".

Many conscientious people, relatively free of biases,simply feel that climate science is beyond them. Theyneed to recognise that this inhibition hasn't stopped thepeople reporting the news or those in the political andentertainment communities whose pronouncements theyhave relied upon.

And for those who believe in AGW alarmism because itfits pre-existing biases or furthers a political or economicagenda, know this: science—stripping away thecorruption and opportunism that has infected much of thescientific community when it comes to the question ofalleged global warming—has no ideology, no ulteriorpurpose; it is utterly dispassionate. Science relies onscepticism and ultimately rests on truth.

THE DEBATE RESUMES: Climate conference forglobal warming sceptics challenges claims ofconsensus, alleges suppression of findings scepticalof alarmist predictions

Scientists sceptical of man-made climate fears,meeting at the 2008 International Conference onClimate Change in New York City, described

"absolute horror stories" about how some scientificjournals have engaged in "outrageous and unethicalbehaviour" in attempting to suppress them frompublishing their work in peer-reviewed journals.

The groundbreaking March 2–4conference, which featured about 100speakers with over 500 peopleattending, presented the report of ateam of international scientists whoformed a group to counter the UNIPCC. (Note: The author of this reportattended and participated in theconference.)

The event, which garnered significantinternational and US media attention,featured many current and former UNIPCC scientists from around the world.The conference occurred just months

after the release of a blockbusterUS Senate Minority Reportfeaturing over 400 prominentscientists who recently disputedman-made global warming claims.The more than 400 scientistsfeatured in the report thoroughlydebunk the assertions that "allscientists agree" about man-madeglobal warming.

But as New York Timesenvironmental reporter AndrewRevkin noted on March 6: "As weall know, climate science is not a

numbers game (there are heaps of signed statements byfolks with advanced degrees on all sides of this issue)."

Furthermore, a Canadian survey of scientists, releasedon March 6, 2008, offered even more evidence that thealleged "consensus" is nonexistent. A canvass of morethan 51,000 scientists with the Association of ProfessionalEngineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta(APEGGA) found that 68 per cent of them disagree withthe statement that "the debate on the scientific causes ofrecent climate change is settled".

According to the survey, only 26 per cent of scientistsattributed global warming to "human activity like burningfossil fuels".

APEGGA's executive director Neil Windsor said:"We're not surprised at all. There is no clear consensus ofscientists that we know of."

US Senate Minority Report featuring

over 400 prominentscientists who

recently disputed man-made globalwarming claims.

Treatment of Sceptical ScientistsDuring the conference, scientists revealed the lack of

tolerance that science journals and institutions haveexhibited for sceptical climate views.

"We [fellow sceptical scientists] talked mostly of workand upcoming papers and went through the standard ritualof griping about journal editors and the ridiculous hoopswe sometimes have to jump through to get paperspublished. But some of the guys had absolute horrorstories of what happened to them when they tried gettingpapers published that explored non-'consensus' views.Really outrageous and unethical behavior on the parts ofsome editors. I was shocked," wrote conferenceparticipant Dr William M. Briggs, a climate statistician onthe American Meteorological Society's Probability andStatistics Committee and an associate editor of MonthlyWeather Review, on March 4 on his blog(http://wmbriggs.com/blog/).

Prominent Hungarian physicistDr Miklys Zágoni, a formerglobal warming activist whorecently reversed his views aboutman-made climate fears and isnow a sceptic, presentedscientific findings refuting risingCO2 fears. Zágoni's scientificmentor, Hungarian scientist DrFerenc Miskolczi, anatmospheric physicist, resignedfrom his post with NASAbecause he was disgusted with theagency's lack of scientific freedom. Miskolczi, who alsopresented his peer-reviewed findings at the conference,said he wanted to release his new research that showed"runaway greenhouse theories contradict energy balanceequations", but he claims NASA refused to allow him."Unfortunately, my working relationship with my NASAsupervisors eroded to a level that I am not able to tolerate.My idea of the freedom of science cannot coexist with therecent NASA practice of handling new climate changerelated scientific results," said Miskolczi, according to aMarch 6 DailyTech.com article.

Meteorologist Joseph D'Aleo, the first director ofmeteorology at The Weather Channel and formerchairman of the American Meteorological Society'sCommittee on Weather Analysis and Forecasting, notedthat many of his scientific colleagues did not attend theconference because they "feared their attendance mightaffect their employment". D'Aleo described the fear ofretribution that many sceptics face as a "sad state ofaffairs". But D'Aleo noted that he believes there is "verylikely a silent majority of scientists in climatology,meteorology and allied sciences who do not endorse whatis said to be the 'consensus' position".

Other scientists have echoed these claims. Atmosphericscientist Dr Nathan Paldor, Professor of DynamicalMeteorology and Physical Oceanography at the Hebrew

University of Jerusalem and author of almost 70 peer-reviewed studies, asserted in December 2007 that scepticshave a much harder time publishing in peer-reviewedliterature. "Many of my colleagues with whom I spokeshare these views and report on their inability to publishtheir skepticism in the scientific or public media," Paldor(who did not attend the New York conference) wrote inDecember 2007.

In February 2008, Canadian environmentalist Dr DavidSuzuki publicly called for politicians sceptical of a man-made climate "crisis" to be thrown "into jail because whatthey're doing is a criminal act".

Criticism of the Consensus ViewMany prominent scientists

participating and attending werevery impressed by the New YorkCity climate conference.

Hurricane researcher andmeteorologist Stanley B.Goldenberg of NOAA (NationalOceanic and AtmosphericAdministration) in Miami praisedthe Heartland Institute–sponsoredconference. "The fact is that thisconference is evidence that thereare numerous respected,established and in many cases

world-renowned scientists who have done careful researchin various areas of 'climate change' that sharply differ withthe [UN] IPCC results," Goldenberg told the New YorkTimes.

Joseph D'Aleo had nothing but praise for the conference."It was the best climate conference I have attended in my30 years in the professional societies. The two-daymeeting featured over 100 excellent presentations made byscientists from Australia, Canada, England, France,Hungary, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Sweden, and ofcourse the United States," D'Aleo wrote on March 4 on hiswebsite (www.IceCap.us).

The oft-repeated notion of "hundreds" or even"thousands" of scientists affiliated with the UN agreeing toa single "consensus" does not hold up to scrutiny. Out ofall the scientists affiliated with the UN, only 52 scientistsparticipated in the UN IPCC Summary for Policymakers,which had to adhere to the wishes of the UN politicalleaders and delegates in a process described as moreclosely resembling a political party's convention platformbattle, not a scientific process.

Many current and former UN scientists disagree with theIPCC Summary for Policymakers and many of themattended the sceptical climate conference in New York. Inaddition, the so-called "consensus" statements byscientific groups like the National Academy of Sciences,

NASA refused to allow him.

the American Meteorological Society and the AmericanGeophysical Union are only voted on by two dozen or sogoverning board members, with no direct vote cast byrank-and-file scientists.

D'Aleo addressed the complaints of some mainstreammedia reporters who noted that the climate conference didnot produce a focused scientific message, but insteadposited multiple explanations of climate changes. "Therewas a variety of opinions as there should be in science andall were tolerated. There was no group think or stagnantthinking as we find at other so-called ClimateConferences," D'Aleo wrote.

Why would the media ever expect a uniform scientificmessage at a large climate conference? It appears thatreporters need to be reminded that the UN IPCC (after all,it is the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) isthe unusual event, not the international climate conferencein New York City in March. It is true that the scepticalconference presented an array ofscientific views, but reportersshould not be surprised by thisdiversity. Instead, the questionfor reporters should be: why doUN IPCC climate events havesuch conformity and a lack ofdissent? Many reporters are soused to attending virtuallyscripted UN IPCC Summary forPolicymakers meetings whichreach the predetermined"consensus" that mankind isdriving a climate crisis.

Media Coverage of the ConferenceThe climate conference garnered the attention of many

media outlets, including the New York Times, BBC,Washington Post, ABC News, Associated Press, Reuters,China Post, CNSNews.com, CNN, New York's Sun, FoxNews, Times of India, Czechoslovakia's Ceske Noviny,Investor's Business Daily, Canada's Financial Post, UnitedPress International, WorldNetDaily.com and the WallStreet Journal.

Some of the mainstream media coverage reached bottomquickly. See the NewsBusters report in which CNN'sMiles O'Brien accuses scientists at the conference of being"Flat Earthers". Some of the media, including in the NewYork Times, presented fair coverage. Despite manymainstream media outlets' efforts to mock the gathering, itwas a semi-victory for the conference that reporters likesMiles O'Brien of CNN and Bill Blakemore of ABC Newseven showed up, considering their past reporting onclimate issues.

During the conference, the Business and Media Institute(BMI) also released its comprehensive study whichreveals how the news media report on global warming.The study, titled "Global Warming Censored", found thatnetwork TV news stifles debate and relies on "politicians,

rock stars and men-on-the street for science [reporting]".BMI also critiqued the news media coverage of theInternational Conference on Climate Change.WorldNetDaily.com ran a critique of the media coverage,titled "Mainstream media's mockery". American Thinkerweighed in with a very comprehensive report from theconference. (Note: For a sampling of the media coverage,see part two of this report [available via the web pagelisted at the end of this article].)

Funding Myths ExposedOne of the most incisive articles about the conference

came from John Tierney of the New York Times (March 6).Tierney exposed the erroneous notion that "industry"funding fuels climate scepticism. "Do the critics reallythink there's more money and glory to be won by doubtingglobal warming than by going along with the majority? Iask this question not because I doubt the integrity or

competence of the researchersand environmental groups whoare getting billions of dollarsfrom government agencies,corporations, foundations andprivate donors concerned aboutclimate change," Tierney wrote.

An August 2007 report detailedhow proponents of man-madeglobal warming fears enjoy amonumental funding advantageover sceptical scientists. Tierneyquoted Joseph Bast, Heartland'spresident, stating: "Donationsfrom energy companies have

never amounted to more than 5 percent of our budget inany year, and there is no corporate sponsor underwritingany of this conference."

Tierney also presented the case that so-called globalwarming "solutions" are money-makers for many. "A cap-and-trade system for curbing carbon emissions (the kindcriticized at this week's conference) is popular inWashington in no small part because of corporatelobbyists who see a chance to make money from thecarbon credits," he wrote. "And there's lots of money tobe doled out to researchers studying climate change andnew energy technologies," he added.

Diverse Views, Growing DissentThe New York City conference of dissenting scientists

came after many declared 2007 as the "tipping point" forclimate alarmism and referred to it as the year that man-made global warming fears "bit the dust" as an abundanceof peer-reviewed studies countered rising CO2 fears.Many of the scientists featured in the December 2007 USSenate Minority Report of over 400 scientists attended theconference. The sceptical scientists presented diverseviews on climate change, but generally they rallied aroundseveral key points:


Many reporters are so used toattending virtually scripted

UN IPCC Summary forPolicymakers meetings which

reach the predetermined"consensus" that mankind is

driving a climate crisis.

1) the Earth is currently well within natural climatevariability;

2) almost all climate fear is generated by unprovencomputer model predictions;

3) abundant peer-reviewed studies continue to debunkrising CO2 fears; and

4) "consensus" has been manufactured for political, notscientific, purposes.

In such nations as Germany, Brazil, the Netherlands,Russia, Argentina, New Zealand, Portugal and France,groups of scientists have recently spoken out to opposeand debunk man-made climate change fears. In addition,many scientists who are also progressiveenvironmentalists believe climate fearpromotion has "co-opted" and"hijacked" the green movement.

Former US Vice-President Al Gore'sfilm An Inconvenient Truth and the UNIPCC reports have prompted manysceptical scientists to speak out and jointhe growing resistance. "Al Gorebrought me back to the battle andprompted me to do renewed research inthe field of climatology. And becauseof all the misinformation that Gore andhis army have been spreading aboutclimate change, I have decided that'real' climatologists should try to helpthe public understand the nature ofthe problem," climatologist RobertDurrenberger, past president of theAmerican Association of StateClimatologists, declared in May2007.

Since the release of theDecember 20, 2007, SenateMinority Report detailing theviews of hundreds of sceptics,scientists in a steady stream fromaround the world have continued todeclare themselves dissenters ofthe alleged "climate crisis".

Just days before the international climate conferencebegan, the first woman in the world to receive a PhD inmeteorology, Dr Joanne Simpson, declared she was"skeptical" of catastrophic man-made warming. "Since Iam no longer affiliated with any organization norreceiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly,"Simpson, formerly of NASA and who has authored morethan 190 studies, wrote in a public letter posted onFebruary 27, 2008, by former Colorado StateClimatologist Roger Pielke, Sr. Pielke described Simpsonas "among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100years". Simpson explained: "[T]he main basis of theclaim that man's release of greenhouse gases is the causeof the warming is based almost entirely upon climatemodels. We all know the frailty of models concerning the

air–surface system. We only need to watch the weatherforecasts. "But as a scientist I remain skeptical," sheadded.

Number of Sceptical Scientists Continues to GrowOn February 28, William F. McClenney, a California-

licensed professional geologist and former certifiedenvironmental auditor in Victoria, Australia, announcedthat he had reversed his views about man-made globalwarming. McClenney now says he has done "the mathand realized that you just can't get to global warming withCO2". McClenney joins other scientists who have recentlyconverted from believer to sceptic of man-made climate

change fears. Geologist Dr Don Easterbrook, an

emeritus professor of geology atWestern Washington University whohas authored eight books and 150journal publications, announced thathe's putting his "reputation on the line"by predicting global cooling. "Theaverage of the four main temperature-measuring methods is slightly coolersince 2002 (except for a brief el Niñointerruption) and record-breakingcooling this winter. The argument thatthis is too short a time period to bemeaningful would be valid were it not

for the fact that this coolingexactly fits the pattern of timing ofwarm/cool cycles over the past400 years," Easterbrook wrote onMarch 1, 2008.

Atmospheric scientist Dr Art V.Douglas, the recently retired chairof the Atmospheric SciencesDepartment at CreightonUniversity in Omaha, Nebraska,and author of numerous papers forpeer-reviewed publications,publicly announced his dissent

from man-made climate change fears in February 2008."Whatever the weather," Douglas said, "it's not beingcaused by global warming."

Atmospheric physicist James A. Peden, formerly of theSpace Research and Coordination Center in Pittsburgh anda founding member of the American Society for MassSpectrometry, announced his scepticism on February 18,2008. "Sorry, folks, but we're not exactly buying into theGlobal Hysteria just yet. We know a great deal aboutatmospheric physics, and, from the onset, many of theclaims were just plain fishy," Peden wrote.

In January 2008, environmental scientist ProfessorDelgado Domingos of Portugal, the founder and directorof the Numerical Weather Forecast group, announcedpublicly that he considers CO2-related climate fears to be"dangerous nonsense". Domingos, who retired in 2006,


"The argument that this is too short a time

period to be meaningfulwould be valid were it not for the fact thatthis cooling exactly

fits the pattern of timing of warm/cool cycles over thepast 400 years..."

has more than 150 published articles in the research fieldsof thermodynamics, numerical methods in fluid mechanicsand meteorological forecasting. "There are measurableclimate changes but there is also an enormousmanipulation in reducing everything to CO2 andequivalents. The main gas producing the greenhouseeffect is water vapour. The present alarm on climatechange is an instrument of social control, a pretext formajor businesses and political battle. It became anideology, which is concerning," Domingos said.

Physics professor Dr Frederick Wolf, of Keene StateCollege in New Hampshire, declared himself a dissenterof man-made climate change fears in January 2008. Wolfhas taught meteorology and climatology courses for thepast 25 years and will be undertaking a sabbatical projecton global warming. "Several things have contributed tomy skepticism about global warming being due to humancauses. We all know that the atmosphere is a verycomplicated system," Wolf said."I am impressed by the numberof scientific colleagues who arenaturally skeptical about theconclusion of human-inducedwarming," he added.

Lamenting Use of the Term"Consensus"

The number of scientists whoare now publicly dissenting fromGore's and the UN's view ofclimate change has become sooverwhelming that promoters ofman-made climate fears now lament the use, or theoveruse, of the term "consensus" in the public discussionof global warming. "I do think the scientific community,the progressive community, environmentalists and mediaare making a serious mistake by using the word'consensus' to describe ... [climate change] impacts," wroteJoseph Romm of Climate Progress in a February 27, 2008,commentary on Salon.com. (Note: Despite the growingscientific dissent and the increasing number of peer-reviewed studies which debunk rising CO2 fears, Rommnow advocates that the term "consensus" be dropped infavour of a stronger term to promote man-made climatefears.)

In addition, at least one scientist publicly ponderedreconsidering his view of man-made climate fears after theSenate report of 400 scientists was released in December2007. "It [the report] got me thinking: I 'm anenvironmental scientist, but I've never had time to reviewthe 'evidence' for the anthropic causes of global warming,"wrote environmental scientist Professor Rami Zurayk ofthe American University in Beirut on December 27, 2007."When I said, in my opening speech for the launch ofUNEP's [United Nations Environment Programme's]Global Environment Outlook-4 in Beirut, 'There is nowirrevocable evidence that climate change is taking place...',

I was reading from a statement prepared by UNEP. Faith-based science it may be, but who has time to review all theevidence? I'll continue to act on the basis of anthropicclimate change, but I really need to put some more timeinto this," Zurayk wrote.

Nature, Not Human Activity, Rules the ClimateThe Heartland Institute's International Conference on

Climate Change built on the momentum of a growingnumber of sceptics as it showcased a new report by a teamof international scientists who have formed a group tocounter the UN IPCC: the "NongovernmentalInternational Panel of Climate Change" (NIPCC). Thesceptical scientists' report was titled "Nature, Not HumanActivity, Rules the Climate". Key findings of the NIPCC'sreport were: (1) most of climate change is caused bynatural forces; (2) the human contribution is notsignificant; and (3) solar activity changes are the main

cause of climate change. Climate scientist Dr S. Fred

Singer, former director the USWeather Satellite Service andpast vice-chairman of the USNational Advisory Committee onOceans and Atmosphere, told theconference that the IPCC "choseto ignore these facts, becausethey conflicted with theconclusion that global warming isanthropogenic [man-made]".

No Global CrisisThe New York conference, featuring hundreds of

climate experts from around the world, issued a March 4"Manhattan Declaration" on man-made global warming,stating in part that:

What would you say if I told you that one plant can serve most ofthe basic needs of mankind—food, shelter, clothing, fuel—butfew people in the 21st century are "legally permitted" to grow it?"Is this a conspiracy?" might be your response.

Does the name "marijuana" ring a bell? It has been used to demonise themost useful species of the plant kingdom: the humble Cannabis sativa, alsocommonly called "hemp". The conditioning is so complete that even the sightof a picture of the leaf creates an enormous impact on the average person'spsyche. Generally, the most immediate reaction to an image of the hemp leaf is"Drugs!" The connotation is negative. In order for hemp to make a resurgenceinto the modern world, a new paradigm needs to infiltrate into the minds ofordinary men, women and children.

In Australia in 2002, the Queensland state government legalised hemp-growing under licence. Since that time, I have been growing hemp andmanufacturing products from the fibre and seed oil. Even though I've beenchallenged with enormous difficulties and seemingly insurmountable ignorance,I've found that the importance of establishing hemp as a crop far outweighs theopposition.

In the past year, I've attended several shows and functions addressing thegeneral public. Interestingly, many young people are actually afraid even to tryhemp oil on their skin. They ask questions like: "Will I get stoned?" and "If Ismoke this T-shirt, will I get high?" They only recognise the hemp leaf as anillicit substance, not as the leaf of a plant which has useful, practical end uses.The most common response from people who suddenly realise the full import ofhemp as a commercial crop is: "Why isn't everyone growing it?"

How could something so good become so bad? The purpose of this article isnot to cover the political position and history of hemp in the last century: therehas already been enough coverage of this in the last few decades from cannabisactivists. Now that we are getting over that hurdle of being able to grow thecrop again, let's focus on the next generation of the most positive outcomes andscenarios for realising hemp as a common household term.

Hemp, a plant that's part of the natural world, has been used by humans formillennia. Despite efforts to wipe it out, it's a tough survivor. Let's hope it'sback to stay.

Some hemp uses and raw statistics The bark of hemp has the longest, strongest fibre of all plants. This fibre can

be made into any building material, including fibreboard, roofing, flooring,wallboard, caulking, cement, paint, panelling, particleboard, plaster, plywood,reinforced concrete, insulation, insulation panels, spray-on insulation, concretepipes, bricks and biodegradable plastic composites which are tougher than steel.

Ecologically sustainable hemp requires no herbicides and pesticides to grow(except under certain conditions). It builds humus, removes heavy metals in the

soil and soaks up enormous amounts of carbon from theatmosphere.

"Every tonne of cellulose grown and used removes 1.5tonnes of carbon dioxide. For example, if 200,000hectares of hemp were grown (averaging a yield of 12tonnes [of dried stem matter] per hectare), 3.6 milliontonnes of carbon dioxide would be removed."1 This wouldhave obvious benefits in reducing our carbon footprint.

Hemp is an extremely fast-growing crop, producingmore fibre yield per hectare than any other source. Hempcan produce 250 per cent more fibre than cotton, with lesswater consumption, and 600 per cent more fibre than flax,using the same amount of land. The area of land neededfor obtaining equal yields of fibre place hemp at anadvantage over other fibres.

"The anatomy of the stem of hemp is crucial to itsquality as a raw material for paper. The bark containsprimary bast fibres (about 20 millimetres long), and maycontain secondary bast fibres(about 2 mm long). The corecontains fibres 0.5 to 0.6 mmlong."2 In comparison, theaverage fibre length for softwood(pine) ranges from 2.8 to 3 mm.The average fibre length forhardwood (eucalypt) ranges from0.8 to 1.0 mm.3 Because of theextraordinary length of the bastfibres (collected from the phloemor bast surrounding the stem), ascompared with the length of treefibres used in Australia, bastfibres produce higher-quality goods such as paper andfabric.

One acre (one hectare) of hemp can produce as muchpaper as four to 10 acres (1.62 to 4.05 hectares) of treesover a 20-year cycle, but hemp stalks only take fourmonths to mature, whereas trees take 20 to 80 years. Thisinformation has been known for a long time, as it wasmentioned in a 1916 US Department of Agriculturereport.4 Hemp paper can also be recycled more often,though this fact is not of much value since hemp is arenewable resource.

If the use of all fossil fuels and their derivatives as wellas trees for paper and construction were banned in order tosave the planet, reverse the "greenhouse effect" and stopdeforestation, then there would be only one knownannually renewable, natural resource capable of providingthe overall majority of the world's paper and textiles,meeting all the world's transportation, industrial and homeenergy needs while simultaneously reducing pollution,rebuilding the soil and cleaning the atmosphere. Thatresource is the same one that did it all before: hemp.

Hemp legislation, classification and processingIn most of Eastern and Western Europe, in North

America (even the United States, where it is illegal togrow hemp), Russia, China, Nepal, India, South America,the Middle East and many other countries, there are nobarriers to the use of hempseed products. Indeed, hempproducts have been used in some countries for millennia.

The United Nations International Narcotics ControlBoard (INCB) tried to implement a ban on the productionof hempseed for human nutrition throughout Europe. Itsreason for the proposed change in legislation was that"hempseed has no nutritional value" and "is a benign wayof introducing drugs to minors".7 Fortunately, HempUnion Ltd from the UK lobbied the European Union andthe UK government and so the INCB withdrew theproposal.

Here in Australia, even though most of the states arenow issuing industrial hempcultivation licences, thelegislation to allow hempseedproducts to be used as a foodsource for humans is still inlimbo. Previous applicationstoward this end were rejected bythe Howard government.Interestingly, the authority thatassessed the applications onhemp food in nutrition could seeno reason to withhold hempseedproducts as a food source forgeneral human consumption.8

Unfortunately, there is a general misunderstanding amongthe public about the benefits of hemp foods.

Technically, hempseeds are classified as a nut or achene.They have an outer sheath, a hard shell and an innerkernel. Before the seeds are pressed, they are cleaned,removing 99.99 per cent of residual plant matter.

Hempseed oil is pressed from the seeds of non-drug,"industrial" varieties of the hemp plant Cannabis sativa L.These seeds contain no THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, theactive drug compound) and have no psycho-active effects.However, trace amounts of THC may be found inhempseed oil if any hemp plant matter happens to adhereto the seed surface during processing.

The modern production of hempseed oil, particularly inCanada since 1998, has successfully lowered THC values.9

Unfortunately, the urine sample drug-screening methodsemployed in mining and other industries are extremelysensitive to minute traces of THC. So it's possible that byusing hempseed products, an employee could jeopardisehis or her drug-free status.

Nutritional content and benefits If all the practical applications aren't enough to convince

us of the benefits of the hemp plant, then the nutritionalvalue of hempseed should be. Hempseed nutrition

research has produced the most astounding revelations inthe last few years and is poised to blow the lid off old-world thinking.

Hempseeds are unsurpassed as a highly nutritious food.They contain anti-oxidants, protein, carotene, phytosterolsand phospholipids as well as a number of mineralsincluding calcium, magnesium, sulphur, potassium, iron,zinc and phosphorus. They are a source of completeprotein and contain all 20 known amino acids, includingthe nine essential amino acids. The seeds and the oil alsocontain vitamins A (beta-carotene in a fat-soluble form),B1, B2, B3, B6, C, D and E (a natural anti-oxidant), all inan easily digestible form.

Hempseeds typically contain 30–35 per cent oil byweight, although some varieties contain up to 50 per centoil. Hempseed oil is extremely high inessential fatty acid (EFA) content. It isnature's most balanced oil for humannutrition, with an approximate 3:1 ratioof LA (linoleic acid, an omega-6) toLNA (alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3). In fact, this oil can provide all ourEFA requirements for life due to itsbalanced 80 per cent EFA content(including GLA, gamma-linolenic acid,an omega-6). Its 10 per cent saturatedfat content supplies energy, whereas the80 per cent EFA constituents primarilyserve as building blocks for cells andhormone production.

Essential fatty acids arenecessary for good health and areresponsible for the lustre in ourskin, hair and eyes and even theclarity in our thought processes, asthey transfer oxygen to every cellin the body. They also lubricateand clear the arteries, strengthenimmunity and help prevent viraland other threats to the immunesystem. However, EFAs are notproduced by the human body: theymust be obtained from foodsources.

The ultimate way to obtain our necessary EFAs is theway nature provided them: encapsulated in the shell ofthe seed. The next best way is from hempseed oil.(Again, legislation in several countries makes hempseedand hempseed oil consumption illegal.) Cold-pressed,unrefined hempseed oil has a dark-green to clear-light-green colour and a pleasant, nutty flavour. The darker thecolour, the grassier the flavour. The green colour is aresult of the high level of chlorophyll, which is naturallypresent in the seeds. If you stand a litre of oil in a clearbottle in the light, the colour will then appear purple,probably due to the high beta-carotene content. All in all,the richer the colour, the higher the nutrient value.

Hempseed oil is mainly used as a food oil and dietarysupplement and is easily digestible. The content andproportions of linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid in onetablespoon (15 millilitres) of hempseed oil taken each dayeasily provide human daily requirements for EFAs. Onetablespoon provides 2.5 grams of omega-3 EFA, 8.0 gramsof omega-6 EFA and 2.0 grams of omega-9 (oleic acid)—aperfect balance. No other single-source oil has this idealcombination of fatty acids. Hempseed oil can be drizzledon salads or taken neat; it should not be used for cooking.

Unlike flaxseed oil, hempseed oil can be used on anongoing basis with no risk of developing a deficiency orother imbalance of EFAs. This has been demonstrated in aclinical study, where the daily ingestion of flaxseed oildecreased the endogenous production of GLA.10 People

are more likely to consume hempseedoil on a regular basis because it tastesbetter than flaxseed oil, which can gorancid and taste bitter far more quicklyand easily.

In regard to the peroxide value (themeasurement of susceptibility tooxidation), hemp averages 7.0 whereasflax is much more sensitive, coming inat 2.0 due to the high omega-3 count.Olive oil has a much higher rating at20.0. So hemp is somewhere inbetween in stability, probably becauseof its natural anti-oxidant content.

Usage and storage Highly unsaturated oils, and

especially poor-quality oils, canspontaneously oxidise and turnrancid within a short period oftime when they are not storedproperly. Oils need to be kept in adark, cool/cold place, preferably ina dark glass (or, even better, metal)bottle.

Hempseed oil can be frozen for alonger period of time than otheroils without risking container

breakage: due to its highly unsaturated fatty acid chains, itdoes not go solid. Furthermore, high-quality oils that arestored properly don't need any added preservatives (anti-oxidants).

Highly unsaturated oils are not suitable for any kind ofcooking. Yet one of these oils, rapeseed oil (canola), iscommonly used in commercially produced goods and fordeep frying, primarily because of its low cost.Furthermore, most of the cooking oils used in fast-foodproduction and on sale in supermarkets are processedunder high temperatures; this process denatures the EFAsto the point where they become trans- fats—basically,toxins with which the body has little ability to cope. Thetherapeutic value of the EFAs is lost.

However, EFAs arenot produced by thehuman body: theymust be obtained

from food sources.

Ideally, food oils should always be cold-pressed andkept away from heat, air and light. According to world-renowned researcher Dr Udo Erasmus in his book Fatsthat Heal, Fats that Kill,11 light is 1,000 times moredestructive to EFA chains than is oxygen (p. 53).

So, it would be wise to think twice before purchasing afood/cooking oil which is presented in a clear plastic orglass bottle and which has been refined, bleached anddeodorised; the same goes for margarine. As the oldsaying goes, "prevention is the best cure".

In table 1 below, adapted from Dr Erasmus's book,hempseed oil is at the top of the list as the most beneficialoil. Not only does it have a perfect balance of omega-6 toomega-3 EFAs, it contains aportion of other fatty acidsincluding gamma-linolenic acid(commonly found in eveningprimrose oil), oleic acid (omega 9,abundant in olive oil), palmiticacid (16:0) (commonly found intropical oils) and stearic acid(18:0) (at a low level, which isgood—considering that a highlevel works against the benefits ofEFAs).

Regarding EFA balance, thereason why many health"authorities" claim that we needmore omega-3 than omega-6 is simple: that we arealready getting plenty of omega-6 from other sources, i.e.,canola oil and margarine, when in fact these do nottechnically contain omega-6.

Any omega-6 they may have contained has beendenatured to become trans- fats—poison!

Both Udo Erasmus and Brian Peskin12 go into this atlength, and their advice is to increase dramatically theintake of omega-6 in a cold-pressed form combined withgood omega-3 until the bad oils are replaced with goodoils.

You wouldn't take your car for an oil change and expectthe mechanic to use dirty old sump oil that's spent!

A protein bonusAlthough hempseed is far more nutritious than soybean

in virtually all respects and just as versatile, the typicalreaction to hemp as a food is that it has limitedapplications. Coming in at anywhere from 30 to 35 percent complete protein—that is, containing all of theessential amino acids—hempseeds actually have twice theprotein of most meat products. The other notable featureis the quality of the protein, which is classified as"edistine", the easiest to digest.

Hempseeds are ideal for vegans and vegetarians. Onekilogram per month would provide all the protein,

essential fatty acids and dietaryfibre necessary for humansurvival—unlike soy, which isnot even classified as a food inAyurvedic medicine. In simpleterms, soy should not be anoption for human consumptionbut used only as a nitrogen-fixing crop in repairing the soil.Personally, I would not evengive it to livestock as it createstoo many sensitivities in the gut.(See the Internet for many linkson soy.) Hemp, on the otherhand, has a nutritional profile

that makes it ideal for poultry and all other livestock. In addition, unlike soybeans, hempseeds are not

genetically modified and are produced without the needfor pesticides and herbicides, so generally they are asclose to organic as it comes and they taste delicious.

More health benefitsHempseed and hempseed oil are known to assist a

variety of conditions: constipation, haemorrhoids, dryskin and hair, low metabolic rate, general weakness andlow energy, tuberculosis, human immunodeficiency virus(HIV), immune deficiency, irregular hormone levels,diabetes, eczema, psoriasis, acne, menopause, cancer,

multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, premenstrualsyndrome (PMS), high cholesterol, high blood pressure,obesity, poor circulation, cardiovascular disease, Crohn'sdisease, gallstones, attention deficit disorder (ADD) andkidney degeneration. Using this high-EFA source in thediet supports the body in scavenging bad fats and cleaningthe arterial walls while increasing tone and flexibility inthe veins and capillary membranes.

The health benefits of consuming EFAs are numerousand far-reaching. Here are some extracts paraphrasedfrom pages 44–51 of Dr Udo Erasmus's book...

EFAs keep membranes fluid. Their tendency to dispersegives biological systems the power tocarry such substances as toxins to thesurface of the skin, intestinal tract,kidneys or lungs, where they can bediscarded. EFAs govern growth,vitality and mental state. They pulloxygen into the bloodstream via thelungs and heart, and supply oxygen tothe cells for electron transport andenergy in the process of oxidation.Oxidation, the central and mostimportant moment-to-moment livingprocess in our body, is the burning offood to produce the energy required forlife. EFAs are involved in transportingoxygen to all our cells. They canbe likened to oxygen magnets orsponges that pull oxygen into thebody. A high oxygen contentensures immunity to viruses, fungiand bacteria.

EFAs shorten the time requiredfor fatigued muscles to recoverafter exercise. They facilitate theconversion of lactic acid to waterand carbon dioxide. Theyincrease metabolic rate and burnmore fat into carbon dioxide,water and energy, sometimes resulting in weight loss. Abalanced intake of EFAs produces smooth, velvety skin,increases stamina, speeds healing, increases vitality andbrings a feeling of calmness.

Alpha-linolenic acid and its derivatives can lowercholesterol by up to 65 per cent. LNA reducesinflammation, water retention, platelet stickiness andblood pressure. It also inhibits the growth of tumours,enhances some immune functions, reduces the pain andswelling of arthritis and in some cases reversespremenstrual syndrome. It has been known to kill themalaria parasite and has been used successfully to treatbacterial infections. There is no better food for a healthyheart and a strong brain.

Topical usesUsed in cosmetics and bodycare products, hempseed oil

is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing,balances skin pH and moisture levels, helps heal skinlesions and has anti-oxidant properties. The texture ofhemp oil is super-emollient because of the loose bonds inthe EFA chains. The oil is not greasy and, used topically,it is readily absorbed through the pores of the skin.

Hempseed oil may be added to any bodycare orcosmetic product, including creams, lotions, facial or bodyoils, massage oils, shampoo, conditioner, shavingproducts, lip balm, soap and many other products. Inhaircare products, hempseed oil increases hair elasticity,manageability and shine while moisturising the scalp.

In addition, this oil may be effectivein protecting the skin from broad-spectrum ultraviolet radiation,according to recent Canadianresearch.13

Dr Budwig's research into EFAsWhy have fats become so very

significant today? The secret of EFAs was discovered

by the brilliant biochemist Dr JohannaBudwig.14 Back in the 1950s, shefound through paper chromatographyhow to differentiate between variousfat structures. She noticed that within

the bloodstream of a person whois sick with, say, cancer, thenature of the lipids would bealtered and the lipids wouldappear as a different colour whenseen through a microscope. Shefound that by saturating the dietwith a high volume of EFAscombined with sulphurous aminoacids, the weakened bloodcondition would right itself andthe disease symptoms woulddisappear miraculously. These

were the first clinical studies of the effect of EFAs on thehuman organism.

At the 1957 International Congress of Nutrition in Paris,900 expert delegates from countries worldwide heard thelatest research results, and the Cancer Research Institute inParis—equipped with the largest state-of-the-art electronmicroscope in existence at the time—showed that the onlysubstance which characterised cancerous cells, as opposedto healthy ones, was isolated fat: the formation of fat inthe cell nucleus, cell body and cytoplasm [author's note:that would be denatured fat, which has lost the ability tohold oxygen].15

According to Dr Budwig, in growing cells there is adipolarity between the electrically positive nucleus and theelectrically negative cell membrane with its highlyunsaturated fatty acids. The cell division process beginsin the nucleus of the cell. The cell body and the daughter

cell are then separated and tied off by the diploidmembrane. When a cell divides, its surface area is largerand, of necessity, must contain enough fatty acid materialin this surface to be able to divide the new cell completelyfrom the original. Normal growth is always distinguishedby a clearly defined course of action. In all our skin andmembranes, there are constant growth processes (even inadults). The old cells have to beshed as new ones formunderneath. When this process isinterrupted, it means the body isbeginning to die. Dr Budwigwent on to say: "...the fats whichare alien to the body block themetabolism of other fat in thedelicate glands, capillaries andfilter stations. Such solidified,heat-treated oils must beavoided."16

Dr Budwig postulated that weare in fact antennae for sunlightand that the electrons in our foodserve as the resonance system for the Sun's energy.Without the electron-rich seed oils in our diet, we aredoomed to go backwards.

A solution to world hunger In Europe and North America, the list of foods which

have been created using hemp seeds is extensive; forexample, hemp flour, milk, butter, nut loaf, pasta, burgers,

pancakes, cookies, cakes, ice cream, hoummos, texturedvegetable protein, paste and bread.

If hempseed crops were established in all Third Worldcountries or at least if hempseed foods were supplied tothese countries, without a doubt this would alleviatehunger like no other foodstuff could achieve. But with theglobal "war on drugs" still in force, how likely an

eventuality will this be? ∞

Why the USDA Wants to Sterilise Fresh Produce and Turn Live Foodsinto Dead Foods

There's a new plot underway to sterilise our food and destroy thenutritional value of fresh produce. The players in this plot are theusual suspects: the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), whichbacked the raw almond sterilisation rules now in effect in California,

and the American Chemical Society, a pro-chemicals group that represents theinterests of industrial chemicals manufacturers.

The latest push comes from USDA researchers who conducted a study to seewhich method more effectively killed bacteria on leafy green vegetables likespinach. To conduct the study, they bathed the spinach in a solutioncontaminated with bacteria. Then they tried to remove the bacteria using threemethods: washing, chemical spraying and irradiation. Not surprisingly, onlythe irradiation killed nearly 100 per cent of the bacterial colonies. That'sbecause radiation sterilises both the bacteria and the vegetable leaves,effectively killing the plant and destroying much of its nutritional value while itkills the bacteria.

The USDA claims this is a huge success: by using radiation on all freshproduce, the number of food-borne illness outbreaks that happen each yearcould be substantially reduced. It all makes sense until you realise that bydestroying the nutritional value of all fresh produce sold in the United States,irradiation would greatly increase the number of people killed by infections andchronic diseases that are prevented by the natural medicines found in freshproduce.

Why fresh, living produce helps prevent sicknessThe USDA, you see, has zero recognition of the difference between living

produce and dead produce. To uneducated government bureaucrats, pasteurisedor irradiated vegetable juice is identical to fresh, raw, living vegetable juice.They believe this because they've never been taught about the phytonutrients,digestive enzymes and life-force properties that are found in fresh foods, butthat are destroyed through heating or irradiation. Thus, the USDA is operatingout of extreme ignorance when it comes to food and nutrition.

This means that while irradiating food may decreaseoutbreaks of food-borne illnesses, it will have theunintended consequence of increasing the number ofpeople who get sick from other infections (and chronicdiseases) due to the fact that their source of naturalmedicine has been destroyed. For many Americans, yousee, salad greens are their one remaining source forphytonutrients. Given their diets of processed foods, junkfoods and cooked foods, there are very few opportunitiesfor these consumers to get fresh, phytonutrient-rich foodsinto their diet. And now the USDA wants to take thataway, too, by mandating the irradiation of all freshproduce.

Let me make a rather obvious prediction, on the record.If the irradiation of fresh produce goes into effect in theUnited States, rates of infection among consumers willsharply increase, not decrease, due to the removal ofimmune-boosting natural medicine from the food supply.Consumers will also experiencehigher rates of cancer, heartdisease, dementia, eye disorders,diabetes and even obesity. Bydestroying these thousands ofhealing phytonutrients,irradiation will leave manyconsumers defenceless againstmodern society's many healthchallenges.

It is no exaggeration to saythat a policy of mass irradiationof fresh produce is as blatantlystupid as the Romans buildingtheir aqueducts with lead-lined waterways. As historianshave explained, after the aqueducts were built the waterdelivered to the Roman population was contaminated withlead—a heavy metal that causes numerous healthproblems, including insanity. Many historians blame thelead-lined aqueducts as one of the primary reasons whythe Roman Empire fell: its leaders went mad, and the restis history. I would argue that America's leaders arealready mad, but that's beside the point.

If we start irradiating our food, thereby destroying itsnutritional value, we are going to unleash a cascade ofunintended consequences even greater than those of theRomans' aqueducts. Absent the protections ofphytonutrients found in plants, the health of mostconsumers will rapidly decline, and we'll see the US thrustinto a quagmire of chronic disease and medicalbankruptcy. (It's already heading there, of course, butkilling the food supply will only accelerate the downwardspiral of health.)

Let's sterilise all the food!The USDA has never met a food sterilisation plan it

didn't like. It backed the recent raw almond sterilisationlaw that went into effect in California last year [2007],forcing all almond growers to sterilise their almonds by

subjecting them to toxic chemicals or cooking them athigh enough temperatures to kill anything that might havebeen alive (such as the almond itself). Now, all the rawalmonds consumed in America are purchased fromoverseas growers, where raw still means raw.

Raw milk has also been under attack in California andelsewhere. The USDA supported laws that essentiallybanned the sales of raw milk, requiring milk to besterilised, too.

If you now irradiate all the fresh produce, you have afood supply that is predominantly sterilised—otherwiseknown as "dead". And dead foods lead to dead people.That a society's health regulators would want all foods tobe dead should be downright shocking to anyone whoknows anything about health and nutrition. Live foodskeep people alive, but dead foods make people die. It'sreally not a complicated concept.

The USDA's definition of "food safety", however, isbased on the idea that the health ofone immune-system-compromisedindividual who can't handle a littleE. coli is more important than theongoing health of the entirepopulation. Thus, all foods mustbe killed for everyone.

I strongly disagree with thisapproach. We should not expectfoods to be sterilised. In terms offood safety, emphasis should beplaced on boosting the health andimmune systems of individuals sothey can survive occasional

contact with E. coli, rather than on trying to create a sterileenvironment in which nothing is alive. As it turns out, thepeople susceptible to food-borne illnesses are preciselythose individuals who have compromised immune systemsdue to their intake of vaccines and antibiotics. Thus, it ismodern medicine that has made these people vulnerable tofood-borne illnesses. Blame the drug companies, not thebacteria.

But the USDA would rather blame the food. However,blaming conventional medicine for the harm it has causedto the human immune system is not politically correct. It'sbetter to blame the food, then use scare tactics to announceyet more outbreaks and hope for a public outcry forwidespread food irradiation. And that brings me to the"final solution" on food irradiation.

I think it's all part of the"keep the population sick and diseased" plot being carriedout by an evil partnership between drug companies and theUS government. We already know that the FDA andUSDA work for the corporations, not the people. Wealready know that the drug companies will do practicallyanything to boost their profits (including conductingmedical experiments on infants, drugging schoolchildren,lying to the public, fabricating clinical trials and more). Isit any surprise that they would nowattempt a "final solution" on the foodsupply that kills the food and therebyresults in a huge reduction in thepopulation's intake of the disease-fighting nutrients found in freshproduce?

Pulling this off, of course, requires abit of social engineering by the USDAin order to force the public intodemanding that something be done. Ifyou're the USDA, you can't justsuddenly announce a national foodsterilisation plan; you have to prime thepump with a bit of dirty work.Here's the simple plan foraccomplishing that, if you're theUSDA...

1) Conduct poor inspections offresh produce on purpose, in orderto cause a large increase in food-borne illness outbreaks. (We'veseen this increase happen over thelast 12–24 months.) This can beeasily accomplished by reducingthe budgets of food inspectionoffices or by removing inspectorsfrom the payroll altogether (whichhas already happened).

2) Wait for the outbreaks to happen. When consumersget sick, run national press releases announcing howdangerous the food supply is.

3) Watch the consumer reaction as people andlawmakers demand that "something must be done".

4) Fudge a study with the American Chemical Society toshow that washing doesn't work and that irradiation is theonly solution. Time the release of this news to coincidewith the public outcry that "something must be done".

5) Once the public is demanding a solution to food-borne illnesses, roll out a national produce irradiationrequirement that sterilises all the food.

Mission accomplished! This, of course, leads to:

What "they" really want: a deadfood supply

Let's be blunt about this. Thecorporations which run thiscountry (and which also run theUS government) want the US foodsupply to be dead. They don'twant foods to be used asmedicines, and they don't want thenatural medicines found in foodscompeting with their own patentedpharmaceutical medicines (thatjust happen to earn them a wholelot more money than any food everdid).

Don't you find it curious that this attack on the foodsupply is coming out now, right after all this incrediblenews about the healing power of foods has been hitting thescience journals? Every week, it seems, we find out aboutanother amazing health property in a food: blackraspberries reverse oral cancer, pomegranates halt prostatecancer, green tea prevents breast cancer—the list goes on.Just on this website alone, we've probably published 1,000stories over the last two years on the disease-fightingproperties of foods.

The FDA, for its part, has for many decades conductedits natural medicine censorship campaign, the onlypurpose of which is to deny the people access to accurateinformation about the healing properties of naturalmedicines found in foods and herbs. But apparently thatwasn't enough. The Internet came along and people founda way to educate themselves. So, since the FDA couldn'tkeep the truth about natural medicines bottled up andcensored, the government has now apparently decided tosterilise all the foods, thereby destroying the naturalmedicines and transforming Mother Nature's gifts intodead calories.

The USDA's decisions here are not based on publicsafety but on corporate greed. Just look at how the USDAhandled the raw almondcontroversy (see related articlesat http://www.naturalnews.com/almonds.html).

The USDA, as operated today,is a front group for wealthycorporations. It is not interestedin helping the people. What can you do to stop this? Be prepared to fightirradiation plans with a massive outcry that demands ourfood supply be protected from radiation. There are twothings that need to be accomplished, and of course theUSDA and FDA oppose them both:

1) Require the labelling of all irradiated foods with alarge "Irradiated" label or sticker.

2) Block any attempts to mandate the irradiation of freshproduce.

Take some probiotics and avoidantibiotics, and you'll be just fine. The title of this article may sound strange on the one hand andprovocative on the other. A secret technology? Does it havesomething in common with the "Nazi UFOs", e.g., the Haunebu andVril disc-shaped craft, or innovative "energy converters"? Well, in a

way. It's about antigravity, but it's certainly not the same story. The familiar "legend" describing the alleged inventions mentioned above has

a certain disadvantage: it generally originates from one secondary source—theinfamous Brisant magazine—and there is no way to verify this information.Although it may contain some genuine elements, the main problem regarding itsperception is that it describes something that would qualify as a 21st-centurytechnology, but there is no clue that would permit us to connect it with theknown context of 1930s or 1940s technology or even with conventionalscientific theories. On the other hand, none of the facilities mentioned in themagazine could be found, and there is no original documentation to back it up.It's the main reason why this legend is generally disregarded by professionals.

What I would like to describe here is something similar, but based on entirelydifferent sources—mostly on previously unknown or secret, inaccessibledocuments. It does have connections with the scientific knowledge and to alarge extent can be verified, and it contains specific names as well.

This story, however, is almost completely unknown in the West and certainlyin Germany. It may seem strange, but from my perspective—I live and work inPoland—it's a little bit more clear. The problem is that the approach to thehistory of World War II in Germany is very selective; and although there arethousands of historians dealing with it, certain topics are virtually untouchableand, paradoxically, one has to search in other countries in order to findanything. As far as the most interesting research activities are concerned, i.e.,development of entirely new propulsion technologies for use in strategicweapons, it was the SS (Schutzstaffel, or "Protective Squadron") that wasgenerally in charge of them; and although there was a very large structureresponsible for these activities, even the names of leading persons, includinggenerals, are essentially unknown, even by the historians. The entiredocumentation referring to this research was lost in 1945 (it was, after all,carried out in exceptional secrecy) and so the only sources are documents fromforeign intelligence services. I would like to emphasise the truth of this, despitethe fact that this was one of the largest and most important projects of the ThirdReich—something that was supposed to save it, even at the turn of 1944–1945.

I've spent over 10 years collecting sources and other information that couldprovide an explanation. My task involved research in Poland, four trips toAmerican archives and institutions including the National Air IntelligenceCommand at Wright–Patterson Air Force Base, searches in Germany and evenone trip to Argentina. research project ever carried out in the Third Reich.The entire story may be perceived as very strange and

tinged with mixed emotions, especially in Germany,because it was the SS that was actually quite effectivelydriving the technological progress in this respect. It maytrigger questions as to the relationship between the ThirdReich and this technological progress—something that hashardly ever been articulated in modern Germany.

German technological developmentsDespite the arrival of totalitarism in Germany, with all

its negative consequences, anacceleration in scientific andtechnical progress occurred thatwas unprecedented in humanhistory, although the general stateof technology around 1939–1940had not deviated much from itslevel at the end of World War I:horses and wooden aircraftcovered in canvas prevailed.

Just a couple of years wasenough for the Germans todevelop a rocket—the V-2—thatcould enter space in verticalflight, at a time when in Great Britain, for example, thepossibility of constructing such a rocket wasinconceivable. Work on the rocket had not even beencompleted when plans for an orbital combat space stationappeared—described after the war by German rocketscientist Wernher von Braun.

Infrared detectors based on semiconductors were beingproduced for many applications and devices, includinghoming warheads for bombs and rockets. The first digital

computer controlled by a program was created by KonradZuse in 1941 (it calculated the root from a given numberin five seconds), and the first semiconductor amplifier wasdesigned by Heinrich Welker in 1945. The presentation in1943 of the first jet fighter aircraft—the MesserschmittMe 262—caused shock waves, and just a year and a halflater the second generation of jet fighters—e.g., thesupersonic Lippisch P.13b and the Focke-Wulf Triebflügelvertical take-off and landing fighter—was ready for trials.All of these technologies had no equivalent at that time inother countries.

The Third Reich achievedoutstanding developments inscience and technology.However, contrary to how itappears to some people,especially in Germany, therealisation of this fact or evenadmiration for the Reich's jetaircraft designs is not to be taken

as a glorification of Nazism.

SS research secrecySo why was such a crucial part of the research effort that

paved the way for an era of a completely new technologyrealised by the SS? Well, the SS had several advantagesover the Wehrmacht's Heereswaffenamt (Army WeaponsOffice) and the formerly civilian Reichsforschungsrat(Reich Research Council). First and foremost, the SS was

more open to new ideas. Second, ithad a much greater chance of keepingprojects secret, which was essential.

The Third Reich was a system that"incorporated" millions of foreignworkers (directly or indirectly) as wellas prisoners and companies inoccupied countries. However, the SSwas the only institution that had itsown workforce, comprising tens ofthousands of prisoners, which couldbe totally isolated from the outsideworld. Such prisoners fromconcentration camps were labelledGeheimnisträger ("personnel entrustedwith secret information") and werenever allowed to leave the camp oreven the specific Kommando ("unit")in which they worked. The SS had itsown chain of command regardingresearch and development, but mostimportantly it had its own sources offinancing. In this atmosphere, large

projects could be carried out without even the basicinformation having to be shared with other centralinstitutions such as Albert Speer's Reichsministerium fürRüstung und Kriegsproduktion (Reich Ministry forArmaments and War Production). That was a hugeadvantage.

The SS developed its own "black world" of research,which even the state leaders—except Hitler himself—generally knew nothing about. For example, the mostimportant research project, concerning antigravity(described later), was controlled by a top-secret cell in theSS-Führungshauptamt (the operational headquarters)called the Amtsgruppe VIII or "Amt VIII–FEP"(Weaponry Department). The problemis that very few people even now—afterover 60 years—realise that such aninstitution existed at all. Moreover, theperson who commanded the AmtVIII—SS-Gruppenführer OttoSchwab—is virtually unknown, as arethe other leading persons who appear inthis story and were supposed to save theThird Reich from defeat. All of themwere high-level generals, including SS-Obergruppenführer Emil Mazuw andSS-Brigadeführer Heinrich Gärtner.Little is known about them simplybecause nothing of the originaldocumentation survived the war, atleast not in Germany. Nothingcould more clearly demonstrate theability of the SS to keep secret thedetails of specific projects—andnot even mention the mostimportant project of all.

Unravelling this puzzle wasreally a hard job, believe me! Theexecution of this armament projectas such was coordinated by SS-Gruppenführer Hans Kammler andhe is known, but you cannot saythat about the people responsible for the specific areas ofresearch or the ones to whom Kammler sent his reports.So, the aim was to carry out the most crucial armamentproject completely independently of the otherinstitutions—and, in particular, without the knowledge ofAlbert Speer's ministry.

German weapons of mass destructionBut what was the purpose of all this secrecy? The

paradox is that from 1943 onwards, the Third Reich waslosing the war, although it possessed an arsenal that wassuperior to what the Allies had. These were weapons ofmass destruction, potentially more deadly than theAmerican atomic bomb!

The SS controlled an intensive biological weaponsprogram, virtually unknown in the West, and primarily it

had a monopoly on tests involving chemical weapons suchas tabun, sarin and soman. These chemical agents weremore deadly than those in the respective Allied arsenals byan order of magnitude. They acted directly on the nervoussystem and had a crucial advantage: they were notabsorbed by filters of any existing gas masks, and wereabsorbable almost as easily through the skin as through thelungs. There was no effective defence against them, andover 10,000 tonnes had been produced.

Another kind of weapon of mass destruction was thenuclear one. The existing publications on German nuclearresearch don't reveal the whole truth, simply because theAllies and postwar researchers generally applied a scheme

that was a mirror reflection of the USManhattan Project. But it wasn'torganised that way. The Germanactivities were not centralised:numerous institutes, organisations andgroups carried out their own projects,mostly completely independently fromthe others. The consequence was that,after the war, some projects were neverrevealed, especially those from the zonecontrolled by the Soviets.

One project played a crucial role inour case. It was directed by Germantheoretical physicist Werner

Heisenberg, working with a teamfrom Dresden University, and wascarried out in occupiedCzechoslovakia near the town ofJáchymov (St Joachimsthal). Itfollowed a completely differentpath to the construction of anuclear bomb or warhead and wasbased on a "mix" of variousunstable isotopes includingradium. (This claim and claimsabout other projects are based onrecently declassified documentswhich I present in my

aforementioned book. For space reasons, I have omittedthe sources for this article.)

The Third Reich did have an arsenal of weapons of massdestruction—and a very big one, in fact. Why, then, did itnot use these weapons? The problem was that, by 1944,Germany was surrounded by enemies—and without airsuperiority over its own skies, any drastic moves or strikeswould be effective only if carried out on a large scale. TheThird Reich had no strategic bombers that could paralyseall the enemy territories and their industrial centres. Anattack on just London, for example, would only trigger amassive retaliation, with thousands of bombers droppingthe Allies' own chemical and biological weapons. TheThird Reich would be defeated even more quickly. So, thedestruction of London alone would just make thingsworse. A strike would only make sense if the Reich were

able to kill not tens of thousands but millions of people ina mass attack!

The German weapons of mass destruction were not usedbecause there were no means to carry them to Moscow,New York or Washington and the industrial and populationcentres far behind enemy lines. That's why it was socrucial for the Third Reich to develop a propulsion systembased on the new physics. It was basically the only thingthat could change the course of the war!

The mysterious "Bell" deviceDuring my archival searches I managed to find, among

other things, German documents confirming that theproject described below received a very unusual, uniqueclassification. It was officially described askriegsentscheidend ("decisive for the war"). Thepropulsion system, probably involving antigravity control,was based on a device known as die Glocke ("the Bell"). Iparaphrase from my book here...

That mysterious device (dieGlocke) seemed at first glancerelatively simple, although theunusual effects of its operationcontradicted this. Thedescription was admittedlyincomplete and non-scientific,since it had originated frommilitary personnel who had nothad access to all of the data, buteven then it included manyvaluable details.

The main part of die Glockewas made up of two massive cylinder-drums, around onemetre in diameter, which during the experiment spun inopposite directions at tremendous speeds around the sameaxis. The drums were made of some unspecified silverymetal. The axis was formed by quite an unusual core,with a diameter of a dozen to 20 centimetres, with itslower end fixed to "the Bell's" massive pedestal. It wasmade of a heavy, hard metal. Before each trial, some kindof ceramic oblong-shaped container was placed in the core(it was defined as a "vacuum flask"), surrounded by alayer of lead approx. 3 cm thick. It was approx. 1–1.5 mlong and filled with a strange, metallic substance with aviolet-gold hue and preserving at room temperature theconsistency of "slightly coagulated jelly". From theproduced information, it followed that this substance wascode-named "IRR XERUM-525" (or "IRR SERUM-525")and contained among other constituents thorium oxide andberyllium oxide (beryllia). The name "Xeron" alsoappeared in the documentation. It was some kind ofamalgam of mercury, probably containing heavy isotopes.

Mercury, this time already in pure form, was alsopresent inside the spinning cylinders. Before the start ofeach experiment, and perhaps also for its duration, themercury was intensively cooled. Since informationappeared about the use of large quantities of liquid gas—

nitrogen and oxygen—it seemed that it was precisely thesethat were the cooling media. The entire device, i.e., thecylinders and core, was covered with the previouslymentioned ceramic housing of a bell-like shape—acylinder rounded at the top, crowned with some kind ofhook or fastening. The entire device was about 1.5 m indiameter and about 2.5 m high. A very thick electricalcable led to the "cap". At the bottom was situated a roundand very solid (made of heavy metal) pedestal or base,with a diameter slightly larger than the ceramic housing.

This was about all that I had managed to establishduring the first conversations about the device'sconstruction. But it was more than enough to confirm thatthis description did not match anything that we knewabout the Third Reich's secret weapons. The person inconversation with me had in any case emphasised that notonce had the term "weapon" been uttered in relation to thedescribed device. It was just a fragment of something

greater and was not in itself anykind of weapon, despite having avery destructive effect on thesurrounding environment.

Experiments with "the Bell"There was much more

information about the course ofthe experiments themselves.Each experiment was carried outin a specially prepared chamber,a pool. In most cases, it waslocated underground. Thedevice's surface was covered

with ceramic tiles and the floor with heavy rubber mats.The mats were destroyed after each test, while the tileswere washed—deactivated—with a pink liquid resemblinga brine. In tests conducted in 1945 inside the chamber ofan inactive mine, the chamber was always blown up aftertwo to three tests.

One primary source of information testified that aspecial "set" had existed for conducting trials on openterrain. It was mounted on three railway carriages markedwith large Red Cross symbols and consisted first andforemost of a power supply installation connected to ahigh-voltage line available at a given location. Thissource was an individual named Joachimm Ibrom, anemployee of Deutsche Reichsbahn (the German ReichRailway) in the Opole (Oppeln) district. These railwaycarriages were later struck off the Opole RailwayHeadquarters stock, officially as the result of an air raid.In fact, they were burned with flamethrowers and theremaining metal elements cut with acetylene blowpipesand dispersed over the site—an undeniably odd procedure.

Later, however, I became convinced that all theinformation which I had gradually managed to find in thecourse of my private investigations was absolutelyunprecedented. It constituted not only "something new"but in general gave a picture of a project fundamentally

different from anything that has been written aboutGerman research from the time of World War II. Myaforementioned informer strongly emphasised that whatwas involved was a uniquely classified project—the mostsecret research project ever realised in the Third Reich!Therefore it was surely clear that, regardless of the scaleof difficulty, it was worthwhile for me to verify such astatement. However, let us return to the descriptions ofthe experiments.

First of all, "the Bell" itself was prepared along with theconsiderable power supply installation accompanying it.Photographic cameras, movie cameras and probably somemeasuring devices were positioned on a special rack in theresearch chamber itself. Then, various samples or objectswere placed nearby for testing the effectof the emitted energy. These wereanimal organisms (live lizards, rats,frogs, insects, snails and, in allprobability, also people—prisonersfrom KL [Konzentrationslager] Gross-Rosen, the concentration camp inLower Silesia), plants (mosses, ferns,horsetails and fungi) and othersubstances of organic origin (egg white,blood, meat, milk and liquid fat).These samples were prepared byscientists and technicians—fortunatelytheir names are known—as well as by aKommando of prisoners from KLGross-Rosen who were speciallyassigned to this work. The teamnumbered up to 100 people, andthe code name was "RWS-1".

Just before the experiment wascarried out, all personnel wereremoved to a distance of 150–200metres. At the same time, rubberprotective suits and helmets orhard hats distinguished by largered visors were issued.

It then took some time for thedrums inside "the Bell" to get going. After the requiredvelocity was reached, the primary part of the testcommenced, during which—and this was emphasised—the device was connected to a high voltage and a high-intensity current. Probably because of this, the wholedevice had to be cooled efficiently. This phase lasted fromtens of seconds up to about 1.5 minutes.

Electromagnetic and biological side effects"The Bell" revealed its operation in two ways, producing

many short-term and long-term effects (and perhaps onesthat we don't know about). The former becameimmediately perceptible after the power had beenswitched on. These included a characteristic sound,described as something extremely similar to the hummingof bees sealed in a bottle (hence the unofficial name

"Bienenstock" ["Beehive"] was also used in relation to"the Bell"), and a series of electromagnetic effects. Theseconsisted of: surges in the surrounding 220-volt electricalinstallations (causing bulbs to "blow"), observed in thecase of ground tests at distances exceeding 100 metres; abluish phosphorescence (glow) around "the Bell"(obviously the result of emitted ionising radiation); and avery strong magnetic field, as was mentioned in thestatements.

Furthermore, participants in the experiments reportednervous system disturbances such as formication (asensation of insects crawling on or under the skin) andheadaches as well as a metallic taste in the mouth. Aftersome time, long-term effects appeared: sleep

disturbances, problems with balanceand memory, muscular cramps andvarious types of ulceration. Later, theteam succeeded in radically limitingthese unfavourable effects.

The most shocking and at first totallyinexplicable phenomena were observedin reference to the aforementionedorganisms and substances subjected totests in the research chamber itself.They suffered various types of damage,the dominant being the disintegrationof tissue structures, gelation, thestratification of liquids (blood, among

others) into distinctly dividedfractions, and more. Frominformation made available, ittranspired that during the firstphase of tests (May–June 1944),these kinds of side effects causedthe deaths of five out of sevenscientists engaged in the tests. Asa result, the entire first researchteam was disbanded. I havewritten "side effects", since fromthe information which survived thewar it is clear that one of the main

aims of the research was to limit these. The most unusual changes were observed in the case of

green plants. During the first phase, spanning about fivehours after the completion of a test, the plants became paleor grey, suggesting chemical decomposition or the decayof chlorophyll. Extraordinarily, despite this, such a plantlived normally, by all appearances, for a week, after whichthere was an immediate—almost a rapid or cascade (8–14hours)—decomposition to a greasy substance "with theconsistency of rancid fat, resembling mazout", whichenveloped the entire plant. This decomposition wasdevoid of any characteristic feature of bacterialdecomposition—smell, among other things. Besides, itwas too rapid, giving the impression that all structure haddecayed. At the same time, undefined crystallinestructures formed in the liquid organic substances, or

something which resembled them. Such changes werenoted with the majority of samples. On about 10 January1945, the team somehow managed to reduce the damageto about 12–15 per cent of samples. On 25 March, theyrecorded a further clear reduction in damage to 2–3 percent of samples.

In addition, after a certain number of experiments,mysterious "gas bubbles" were seen forming in "theBell's" metal foundation.

Reflections on the projectI realise that this information, presented without

interpretation, may seem unintelligible or simply non-scientific. But this is not the case. Along with manyspecialists I have worked unremittingly to make sense ofthis project, and together we finally managed to documentmany facts and unite them into a single, compact andintelligible whole. Eventuallywe packed into 100 A4 pagesspecific information on thedescription of the device, itsmodus operandi , theorganisational side of the projectand even the postwarintelligence race to seize theknow-how.

For my purposes here, I shouldexplain that what I learnedcomprised the initial phase ofmy research and became astarting point for furtherresearch. At this point, I had ample information at mydisposal about the organisational side of the whole projectas well as a certain theoretical basis. My perception wassuch that the data originated from a source credibleenough to "invest" years of work in gathering independentsources to confirm that the project indeed existed, but alsoin explaining what it really was, what sort of physicalphenomena it employed, etc. I believe that I couldn't domore in this respect—as one of my scientific consultants,Dr Hal Puthoff from the US, assessed it.

The theory behind "the Bell"So I begin with this second matter, the "theoretical

basis", as it is more directly related to the aforementionedobserved phenomena. This was a set of scientific termsmost often used in reference to various descriptions of thedevice and its operation. From the start, these terms werequite mysterious—so much so that nobody before me hadmanaged to unite them or attribute them to specificcontemporary work (and such attempts were made in the1960s, at least as far as aspects of the analyses that I knowof are concerned). Two notions were treated as

fundamental: "vortex compression" and "separation ofmagnetic fields".

Developing a scientific explanation, however, was agreat challenge because even at first glance it was obviousthat die Glocke did not reflect the canon of academicknowledge, so data had to be compiled from various areasof research. At the same time, the explanation had to havea scientific basis that could be presented in an acceptableform to scientists. It has stood the test of time in thisrespect, considering that scientists are among my mostdevoted readers!

Generally speaking, the project was a scientificapproach to antigravity control (I wasn't sure about it atthe beginning of my research!). Moreover, it has turnedout that the theoretical basis which enabled such aninnovative approach did exist in the Third Reich at thattime. It doesn't refer to Einstein's theory of relativity, but

to a forgotten quantum approachwhich links gravity with certainquantum effects as well as spin(refer to the work of ProfessorWalther Gerlach, the scientificleader of this project, his Austrianco-worker named Thirring, andProfessor Pascual Jordan). It wasa sufficient basis upon which tostart the research during the war.

I have only added a piece ofmore modern knowledge with myanalysis of so-called"gravitational solitons", but I will

not go into the scientific aspects here. I just want toemphasise that the theory can be explained and thatscientists are no less interested in this than I am.

Locations of the secret projectsReturning to the organisational side, the project was

carried out in Niederschlesien (Lower Silesia, nowPoland) and in occupied Czechoslovakia. Both these areaswere considered safe and were mostly mountainous.Niederschlesien was once nicknamed by Goebbels the"Reichsluftschutzraum" ("Reich air raid shelter").

In Niederschlesien, the SS was building a giantunderground infrastructure for experimentation andproduction. In Czechoslovakia, it had numerous factoriesfor chemical weapons production as well as the mainscientific centre of the SS-FEP, in Pilsen, where work wascarried out on a propulsion system based on nuclearphysics. It was in the Reichsprotektorat der Böhmen undMähren (Reich Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia),nicknamed "SS-Musterstaat" ("SS ideal state") by Hitler.

Niederschlesien, however, was much more important.There was an entire area dedicated to secret research, withmany facilities set up mainly near Fürstenstein beiWaldenburg. These included the Führer's headquarters,

THE AERODYNAMIC AIR TURBINE ENGINE

Vortex Implosion Technology

The future has arrived with thesolution to our world's energyneeds. The Aerodynamic Air

Turbine Engine (AATE), aptly named"the Crystal Ion", will be the energyrevolution we have been waiting for.Clean energy utilising the force ofnature to create powerful andsustainable motion with nodetrimental environmental impact ishere. The air we breathe is the sameair that drives the AATE; no wind isrequired. This is not a perpetualmotion machine.

When I first learned of RockwellScientific Research (RSR) [in LasVegas, Nevada] and the AATE, I wasvery sceptical. The more I thoughtabout it, the more my feelings weremixed. Can this be real? My thoughtswere torn between my disbelief andbelief. I became more exhilarated asthe myriad potential uses flooded myneuron pathways: an engine that runson ambient air, without any air tanks,combustion or fuel cells, producing noexhaust. The thoughts thrilled me noend. I just had to see the engine formyself.

The new energy revolutionI will forever remember the day I

actually saw the engine running withmy own eyes. My scepticism quicklyturned to enthusiasm that was totallyoverwhelming. Here was the future,right before me.

The engine hummed along at 30k-plus rpm without any fuel or exhaust.The clear design of the casingafforded a detailed view of the

interior. There were no electronicsinside except for the LEDs. As thethrottle revved the engine up anddown, it was clear to me that this wasgenuine and not a hoax.

What really boggled my mind wasthe fact that there were no investorsbeating down the door to become apart of this new energy revolution.Here was the absolute answer to theenergy crisis we are currently facing.

What is wrong with Americanstoday? Why would everyone be sowilling to continue down the pathwaypaved by oil, coal and nucleartechnologies when that path results intorturing common citizens, reachingdeep into their pockets? Why are somany of our fine young men andwomen dying needlessly for the rightto oil? Why are billions of dollarsbeing spent trading carbon credits, andwhere is all that cash going? Arepeople really concerned about theirliving environment? Politicians arequick to blame industries for what isreally political failure.

History of the inventionSo how was the AATE reborn? In

late April 2005, Ron Rockwell of RSRwas invited to meet with inventorHaskell Karl who claimed to havebuilt an engine powered only by air.Ron met with Haskell in person, andafter reviewing all his material(consisting only of photographs,drawings and sketches) and havingdetailed phone discussions he decidedto rebuild the engine using currenttechnology. I am sure that scepticismreigned high.

However, Ron believed thistechnology had substantial merit andinvited his trusted colleague, friendand fellow machinist Cliff Cruz to joinhis team in re-creating the engine. So,with 12 years' experience in researchand development of various devices inthe high-tech industry, RSR developedthe AATE.

In the early 1960s, Haskell took theoriginal engine he had built to WyleLaboratories for testing. Thetechnicians could not figure out how it

worked and requested that he leave itwith them so they could furtheranalyse the engine. Haskell refusedand headed home with the invention.

The AATE was scheduled to bepresented to President Kennedy at aspecial meeting. However, before thisscheduled presentation, the peoplewho worked with Mr Karl on theengine mysteriously disappeared.Shortly thereafter, the engine alsodisappeared. There was talk thatChina was willing to pay $100 billionfor the engine, but the deal fellthrough when a key individual diedfrom a massive heart attack.

Haskell Karl went into hiding,keeping with him the documents,original drawings and numerousphotos showing how he built theengine.

Now, some 40 some years later, theengine is reborn.

Concept and prototypeAlthough the scientific concept

behind the engine—vortex airimplosion—was not fully understoodat that time, the determination wasmade that a new prototype based ondiscussions, drawings and photoscould be built. The task wasundertaken.

The RSR machine shop started the

initial construction in May 2005.Work was arduous. Unique partsneeded to be manufactured, but newtools had to be machined in order tomanufacture these parts. There wasno manual or guidebook, so Ron andhis team had to rely on theirknowledge, ingenuity and creativity tobuild the engine.

With the latest technology availabletoday, Ron was able to redesign andimprove things that could not be doneback in the 1960s. Through trial anderror (not much of the latter), and $3million later, they finally completedthe first functioning prototype in thefall of 2006.

Indifferent reactionsEcstatic with the results,

arrangements were made to travel toWashington, DC, to present the engineto the Department of Energy in thehope that it would embrace thisunprecedented technology.Unfortunately, Mr Rockwell and DrBeverly of RSR were met withbureaucratic indifference. Need morebe said?

The public needed to know that asolution to the world's energy wasavailable, and so a press release wasissued in November to over 200newspapers and magazines. Again,

there was huge indifference: the pressoutlets were more focused on news ofthe war and elections.

Security and investment issuesAs with any technology that

promises huge gains, security is anissue. There were several securitybreaches over the course ofdevelopment, but thankfully they werediscovered early enough to bethwarted.

One lengthy breach occurred in thesummer of 2007 when two individuals(referred to as "vultures") attempted to"take over the technology". Theybegan contacting Haskell Karl,eventually coercing him to denounceRon Rockwell and promising himquick profit. They also contactedRon's chief machinist and met withhim several times to engage him inassisting them to develop the enginewithout Ron. Despite knowing thatthey were being videotaped, theycontinued their discussion with Cliffto bring him on board and away fromRSR and the engine project. Theseindividuals are under criminalinvestigation. The result of thisbreach caused a serious delay in thecompletion of the engine. Security isnow tighter than ever.

A number of individuals cameforward claiming to be investors,venture capitalists and personallywealthy. Many of these individualswere not investors but brokers, agentsor individuals that knew someone whowanted to invest and really hadnothing to offer. This was also asource of lost time.

The purpose of seeking investmentwas to develop, market and supportinnovative, cost-effective, clean-energy devices, products and services,especially those made availablethrough RSR's proprietary technologydesigns.

In early 2008, there was aninvitation by a government departmentto apply for a number of grants thatwere available only for new energy

projects. This sounded morepromising than the first encounterwith the government. Theapplications were arduous andrequested very detailed specificationsfor the engine. It was not acceptableto provide the government with thosespecifications.

Then, an individual with high statusin the Mexican government offered toset up a meeting with the President ofMexico. At first it sounded very goodto Ron. As the time approached, themeeting was postponed and Ronbegan to feel something was not right.This meeting did not happen. As itturned out, this individual was in afinancial bind and planned nointroduction to the Mexican President.The promised trip to Washington wasactually a scheduled NAFTA meeting,not a special meeting for Ron.

Operation and improvementsSo what exactly is the AATE? It is

a mechanical device built to spin athigh revolutions without the need forany fuel, combustion or compressedair. This device is a sophisticatedapplication of a simple scientificprinciple and technology, long knownin the alternative energy field: vorteximplosion air technology (VIAT).Viktor Schauberger discovered theprinciple of the vortex and developedtechnology for moving water moreefficiently. The same principle can beapplied to airflow.

The RSR AATE runs on ambientair—the very air we breathe—usingno air tanks and no other powersource. A tornado is created in theengine that implodes on itself, whichactually speeds up and sustains theairflow back into the tornado.

Ron and his team have made somesubstantial technical discoveries andfound potential problems with thecurrent design, so they proceeded torebuild the AATE with newspecifications. Noise level wassubstantially reduced, and overheatingwas no longer a concern.

Haskell met the improvements inthe design with great joy.

What remains to be done is moretesting (e.g., with Wyle Laboratories)to validate that the AATE performs asdescribed and is sustainable.

Promise for the futureRSR will offer the "ultimate

solution" to the growing world energyproblem—the end of fossil fuel use,preservation of natural resources, low-cost clean energy (zero emissions),independence from foreign oil use,non-degenerative and non-destructiveenergy forces from the technology'suse—while creating worldwidedemand for this solution.

RSR update on the AATEResearch and development

continues on the Aerodynamic AirTurbine Engine (AATE). RockwellScientific Research, LLC, hasacquired state-of-the-art computerisedbalancing equipment from CWTIndustries: the Multi-Bal 5000balancing machine. This will

empower RSR to make extremelyprecise balance adjustments to theAATE in increments of 0.001 gram ifnecessary. We are setting up the maindrive shaft with a quick disconnect tofacilitate easy and fast removal forbalancing. This requires specialmachining to adapt the drive line ofthe turbine. The time saving will beenormous and enhance our workflow.These optimisations will increase theperformance of the engine 10-fold.

A new building addition is underconstruction at Rockwell ScientificResearch, LLC. The new sectionbeing renovated is designedspecifically to house the balancer.Plans are complete to fit the roomwith HD video to document thebalancing process.

Two years ago I decided to return to a research project in music perception that I hadpostponed nearly 30 years earlier. It seemed that time had not diminished mycuriosity about how we are able to organically measure the degree ofdissonance and mentally anticipate the direction of resolution in music

harmony. My original work in this area had taken me deep into mathematics and

computer simulations in search of an explanation. Now, armed with the scientificmethod, powerful computer tools and access to the world's latest research, I wassure that I could determine once and for all whether our perception of music issomething organic or nothing more than cultural conditioning. I had no idea thatwhat I was about to learn would shake the very foundation of my 21st-centuryworld view.

Slowly but surely I began to put the pieces together. From a wide array ofscientific research in music cognition, neurophysiology, genetics, acoustics,quantum physics and my own calculations and experiments, I developed a set ofprinciples and mathematical models to explain how we perceive music. Namingthis system harmonic interference theory, I found a way to show howharmonics—the overtones of a musical note—play a common role in both soundand the structure of our anatomy.

The theory proposes that life grows as a balance between resonance anddamping, just like a vibrating string, and that music perception is a built-inpattern-matching between the harmonic geometry of sound and identicalstructures in the ears and the brain. It is from this organic pattern-matchingprocess that the musical qualities of consonance, dissonance, tension andresolution can be defined mathematically and then visualised geometrically ascrystalline and quasi-crystalline structures. From this, I came to the conclusionthat the entire body is a form of crystallised music.

The Vitruvian modelOnce I had convinced myself of the existence of harmonic properties in human

physiology, I found myself drawn to Leonardo da Vinci and his popularillustration of the Vitruvian Man to see what he might have known. I learned thatthe circle and square surrounding the Vitruvian Man represent the mathematical"squaring of the circle", whereby the perimeter of the square is equal (as near aspossible) to the circumference of the circle. First proposed by Roman architectMarcus Vitruvius Pollio in the first century BC, the squaring of the circle wasintended to represent the harmony and balance in the ideal human form.

As I pondered what this could mean, it occurred to me that the circle implies aninside-out resonance of cells in the body, while the square represents an outside-indamping effect to contain the outward push of cellular resonance. harmonic proportions are emphasised by the DNA. Looking back on it, this was a very difficult thing for me

to accept at first. Like every student, I was taught from theearliest age that space is a complete and utter void. Yet, Isimply could not resist the logic of life as a form ofresonance and space as a kind of damping container.

Using this as an hypothesis, I decided to find a way tomeasure resonance and damping in the Vitruvian model. Todo this, I overlaid a lattice of right-angled standing waveson the Vitruvian figure (see below). When I scaled thelattice such that the circle radius was exactly equal to 2π, Iwas surprised to find that the proportion between the circleand the square could be expressed very simply as π / Φ2, orpi divided by the square of phi, the golden ratio. Could thisbe pure coincidence? While both of these mathematicalconstants are irrational and infinite, the ratio between themcan be seen to converge to the rational ratio of 12:10, as3.14159 / 2.618033 ≈ 1.2.

The moment I saw this, I realised that harmonics reallycan account for our body structure. We have 10 fingers and10 toes at the extremities (where cellular damping ispresumably greatest), yet at the same time we have 12major articulated joints in the body and 24 vertebrae in thespine (where cellular resonance must be greatest).

Pursuing this line of thought, I decided to add a recursivegrowth dimension to the lattice, creating what is called"Hilbert space". This was incredibly accurate in predictingeach of the key plexus points in the Vitruvian model,convincing me that our bodies (and all life) must resonate orgrow into the containment geometry of space. And just to

confirm this, I reverse-engineered the Vitruvian model fromthe inside out by recursively building up each part of thebody mathematically as if it were growing in space! Theimplications were absolutely mind-blowing for me, sincethis model seemed to confirm that space is somehowinteracting with the structure of life. But this was only thebeginning.

Hidden symbols, suppressed knowledgeI began to notice how the harmonic lattice can also

contain other things, like ancient religious icons, sacredgeometrical patterns and the mysterious symbols used byvarious esoteric fraternities. Not being a member of anysuch organisation myself, I waded through the literature onthese topics to get an idea of where these secret orders camefrom and what their symbols could mean.

I found an unbroken current of knowledge through all ofthem, tracing back to the Egyptian Flower of Life pattern(sixth century BC) and its components, particularlyMetatron's Cube and the Vesica Piscis, which all fitperfectly into the Vitruvian harmonic model. I also noticedthat the Hebrew Tree of Life fits within this musical lattice,aligning with the seven points of the Hindu chakra system.Even the Gnostic Cross—a cube unfolded into 3 x 4squares—fits nicely into the lattice, transforming theVitruvian Man into a kind of archetypal crucifix. Couldsomething like this have been the pre-Christian meaning ofthe Cross?

As my belief in Western science began to crumble, Iasked myself how this simple harmonic lattice could be so

completely absentfrom generalpublic awareness.Why is this notc o m m o nknowledge? Whyis this not part ofscience, music,history and ourentire educationsystem? Whywould it not atleast rate as a "funfact" in a sidebarin PopularScience or on ananatomy poster atthe doctor'soffice? Andabove all, whywould the Churchnot want people toknow all about it?After all, it couldbe taken as proofof a sacredordering principle


in nature, of the existence of a cosmic intelligence (call itwhat you will).

So I reoriented my study of history from this newperspective, and it quickly became obvious to me why weknow virtually nothing of this lost knowledge.

I discovered that harmonic philosophy had long beenassociated with paganism (the belief of God in nature) andthat the Roman Catholic Church had worked very hard overa period of a thousand years to suppress it through canonlaw. This is the reason why the tritone interval of a half-octave, nicknamed Diabolus in Musica ("Devil in Music"),was banned from sacred music in 1234 AD by PopeGregory IX (and is still banned to this day). The Churchseemed well aware that the tritone could reveal thesymmetry in music harmony and open the door to the"carnal knowledge" of harmonics in thebody and elsewhere in nature.

As the most powerful force in theMiddle Ages, the Roman CatholicChurch was very successful inestablishing and promulgating afranchise system whereby the faithfulcould only reach God through theChurch (and its iconic brand) rather thanthrough the study of self and nature.Using this marketing and distributionnetwork, the Church was able to social-engineer vast populations by regulatingadmission to the afterlife.

Through the power of guilt, fear,torture and war against paganismfrom the Middle East, themediaeval Church struggled tobring under hand a violent andturbulent Europe. The last thing theRoman Church needed was aresurgence of Egyptian Gnostism orneo-Pythagoreanism to interferewith its plan. Such pagan harmonictheosophies were a clear andpresent danger to the Church and itsproject of social control. Harmonicideals, often represented by thePythagorean pentagram or the Hebrew hexagram, were castby the Church as evil pagan symbols and associated withsatanic worship, witchcraft and occult rituals.

Those who studied harmonic properties in numbers,geometry and astronomy, such as the Dualist and GnosticCathars in southern Europe during the 11th to 13thcenturies, were threatened, executed or exiled, and manysurvivors were forced to roam the countryside as "gypsies"(a pejorative form of "Egyptians"). The Knights Templar,the primary keepers of the Egyptian temple mysteries, werethen hunted down and murdered by the Roman CatholicChurch on Friday 13 October 1307, although a few fled tofar-flung places like northern Scotland. In these remnantsof Egyptian Gnosis were the seeds of Rosicrucianism,

Freemasonry and other "secret societies"—all of whichwere founded on the study of harmonics in numbers andgeometry. This said, few adherents today are the least bitaware of or interested in the science of harmonics, optinginstead for the benefits of a fraternal network and theoccasional community service undertaking.

But while an honest look at European history seemed toexplain how and why harmonic principles had disappearedfrom Western religion, it still did not answer why science,as the presumed pillar of empirical truth in the world, didnot eventually return to harmonics as a unifying field ofstudy. So I dug a little deeper, and here is what I found.

The anti-harmonics campaignIn the lead-up to the Enlightenment of the late 17th and

18th centuries, the "scientific method"was actually designed to discourage thestudy of harmonics and itscorresponding natural philosophy,known as musica universalis or "musicof the spheres".

I learned that the exclusion of musicand pagan harmonic principles frommodern science was first suggested in aletter from the astronomer Galileo to hisdaughter, apparently prompted by hisdesire to avoid torture and imprisonmentby the Inquisition.

Supported by Newton, Descartes andothers who also wished to find away to coexist with the Churchduring this period, the separation ofthe study of harmonics away frommathematics and science into "thehumanities" became more and moreinstitutionalised as the scientificmethod became increasinglyaccepted. In time, new generationsforgot all about harmonics as aunifying property in nature—eventaking up the cause of science todiscredit any remaining harmonictheories as "smelling of the pulpit"

(a twist of irony).In the early 20th century, this anti-harmonics campaign

reached its zenith in the Michelson–Morley experimentwhich "proved" space to be an empty void with no intrinsicstructure or measurable effect on matter. This belief wasquickly accepted as the cornerstone of 20th-centuryscientific thought and education, and Darwin's theory ofnatural selection (with the occasional accidental mutation)was elevated as the explanation for why life takes the formsit does. Only in recent years has that famous physicsexperiment been shown to be misleading and even false bymuch more sophisticated instruments which indicate thatspace does have a measurable effect on matter.

But, like almost everyone, I grew up in an education

system that still denies the existence of any structuringproperty in the vacuum or how it could play a role in theformation of life. Even the smartest and best-educatedpeople happily accept the contradictory belief that space isboth curved (Einstein) and an empty void. No one eventhinks to raise the question of how it is that nothingnesscould be curved or, for instance, why our bodies shouldgrow 10 fingers instead of, say, eight or fourteen. Theavoidance and outright ridicule of a structured spaceremains a point of great disagreement and debate today, notonly slowing progress in virtually every field of science butalso hiding a very important truth from society. What is thattruth?

The truth is that for the past 350 years a complicity ofconvenience has existed between the institutions of westernreligion and science to avoid any mention of harmonics.This unspoken tradition continues to spill over into societyto this day, fragmenting western culture and ideologicallysupporting unsustainablepolitical, economic andenvironmental policies.

With the study of harmonics nolonger present in our schools andchurches, as it once was in theGreek and Roman traditions, wepush each generation further andfurther away from the idea thatmankind should seek to followthe harmonic processes at work innature.

Without having any coherentsocial and cultural model, mostpeople presume the universe to be a cold, meaningless andrandom environment within which only accident or bruteforce applies. Life itself is seen as a quirky accident in ahostile world, making it easy for us to agree with peoplelike neo-Darwinist Richard Dawkins that selfishness is thewinning strategy for survival. Under this widespreadpresumption of a random and violent universe, nihilism hasbecome the popular consensus.

Towards a new renaissanceThis said, I do think there is hope in the bright light of

quantum physics. While the rest of science continues to bepowered by Newtonian machinations, quantum theoryquietly proposes a cosmos composed of coherent harmonicwaves crystallising into matter inside a polarised cubicspace lattice (like a physical hologram). The Schrödingerwavefunction with the "particle in a box" model of quantummechanics is just another way of describing the harmonicstructure of space—no different than the physics of a guitarstring. Still, with the long tradition of avoidance, anynotion of coherent space has yet to make its way intostandard science curricula let alone into other fields ofscience.

But if the study of harmonics were ever allowed back intothe educational system, we might expect a cultural

renaissance that would make even Leonardo's nakedVitruvian Man blush. T-shirts would implore us to "Bringback the aether!", while religious bumper stickers wouldproclaim "Get in touch with your inner archetype!" Thefull, intersecting circles of the Vesica Piscis would suddenlyappear in place of just the fish part on all those stickers onSUVs. Even Einstein's "everything is relative" dictumwould sound tired, replaced instead by Pythagoras'"everything is proportional".

Fashion would explode with "sacred geometry" andEgyptian styles would make a comeback. The idea that anarchetypal structure in space actually shaped flowers,insects, fish, birds, pets and people would be irresistibleand, I think, difficult to suppress once the meme werereleased.

Driven by grassroots awareness, hardened scientistsmight find common ground with the modern theosophicalmovement. They might accept life as non-accidental and

geometry as something sacred.They might even learn to embracethe spirituality of the ancientHindu Anu—the ultimatequantum of material structureburied deep inside every atom.Western religious leaders mightalso make peace with these paganideals and finally admit (with awry smile) that they knew allalong that the Holy Ghost was buta blueprint for Man in the fabricof space. And as these ideas tookroot in every belief system, maybe

our off-balance governments would finally considermodelling their policies on the coherence demonstrated sobeautifully in the human form. ∞

US Army/CIA Unit Studied the Real UFO Blue Book Cases

August 27, 2008, Albuquerque, New Mexico — Ten years agoin April 1998, I received a phone call from a Californiaresident who said he was an acquaintance of a man whosefa the r- in - l aw had worked fo r t he Cen t ra l In t e l l i gence

A g e n c y ( C I A ) i n t h e l a t e 1 9 5 0 s a n d h i s w o r k i n c l u d e d U F Oinvestigations. The caller thought I should talk with the son-in-lawto see if I could speak with the 62-year-old father-in-law living in thesoutheastern United States and whose health was deteriorating.

After a lengthy discussion with the son-in-law, "SD", about myinvestigative journalism career as a TV producer, documentary filmmaker,radio reporter and writer concerning subjects ranging from science andenvironment to Earth mysteries that include the UFO phenomenon, SD saidhe would talk with his father-in-law and let me know if I could talk withhim—either on or off the record. I assured SD that I was willing to speakwith his father-in-law in complete confidence if necessary. SD called backand gave me his father-in-law's home number. On May 2, 1998, I dialled thenumber of the former CIA and US Army analyst whom I will call "Stein".

The first phone conversation had more surprising details than I expectedand I asked Stein if I could record by phone, without using his real name, so Icould share his alleged experiences with the public on Dreamland and Coastto Coast AM, then hosted by Art Bell. Stein said as long as I didn't reveal hisname and current geographical location or the specific military base in whichhe and others analysed UFO photographs and film that included autopsies ofnon-human beings, he would talk because he did not know how much longerhe would be alive. But he did not want his surviving family to be jeopardised,so he wanted complete anonymity.

Unfortunately, requests for anonymity have been too common in my long-time efforts to understand what the US government knows about the agendasand interactions of non-human intelligences with planet Earth. It's myunderstanding there has been a policy of strict denial in the interest of nationalsecurity since 1947, after President Harry S. Truman signed a classifiedexecutive order to keep the public and media ignorant.

In 1998, with his permission, I did share some excerpts of a phone-recordedinterview with Stein. But soon after our first discussion, Stein received a tipfrom a long-time friend of his who worked for the phone company in hishome town. The friend told Stein that his phone was tapped and he wonderedwhy, since Stein was retired and very ill. Stein let me know the situation andagreed that I could visit him at his home and record his story. Even that secreteffort backfired on Stein in a surprising and disturbing way that ended ourdiscussions, but not before I had recorded many hours of his story.

Now it is 10 years later, in August 2008, and I begin the following real "X-Files" series of Stein's assertions that I cannot prove, but in the wake of Jim

Telephone Interview #1: May 2, 1998

Linda Moulton Howe (LMH): Please tell me if Iunderstand correctly that you worked for the CIAbetween 1957 and 1960 on top-secret Blue Book casesfunnelled to the CIA and not to the phony public BlueBook version?

Stein: Yes, to me and my boss. [The cases] usuallycame directly to me.

LMH: Who was your boss?Stein: Anthony Barden was

the name he used in the CIA.

LMH: Is he still alive?Stein: No. In the late 1950s

when I was working for him, hewas in his sixties then. He diedin the 1970s.

LMH: Was he military orcivilian?

Stein: He was civilian.

LMH: What was his titlewithin the CIA?

Stein: He was in charge of the southeastern UnitedStates. They had different people in charge of differentparts of the country. Somebody else had thenortheastern; someone else had southwestern; andsomeone else had northwestern.

LMH: Did you understand why the CIA would havethe United States divided up into regions when it wassupposed to be focused internationally and notdomestically?

Stein: They did the regional divisions to cut down ontravel time. There was someone in charge of the entireCIA at that time.

LMH: Wasn't the FBI supposed to be focuseddomestically and the CIA internationally?

Stein: That was the general picture, but in the US theCIA had the country divided up four ways. We also hadan overseas administrative person as well as a Europeanhead. And, of course, we had spies in Russia and so on.

LMH: Do you remember in the 1950s documents andphotographs you received concerning unidentified flyingobjects, did your files include unusual animal deaths?

Stein: No, nothing about animal deaths in the BlueBook files funnelled to me and my boss. What did standout in the classified documents I saw was about a UFOcrash on a ranch in New Mexico in 1947. The documentsaid that it was a German-built saucer that had alienhieroglyphics on the outside and inside. They found outit was German when they did reverse-engineering on it.There was something in the craft that linked [it] to beingbuilt by Nazi Germany in 1938, I think. But, there werealso aliens on board. One was still alive, one was dyingand, I think, one or two were dead.

LMH: Did they have photographs of those beings?

Stein: I saw photographs in our classified work at themilitary base in the southeast. But also I had a TOPSECRET White House clearance, and when I was inWashington, DC, at CIA headquarters, if I had time I

would go into the library and readup on a lot of those things. Iused my security card to zipthrough the lock and go right in.That's where I read about theNazi Germany saucerconstructions.

LMH: Did the report aboutthe New Mexico crash describethe beings?

Stein: Yes, it did. Youprobably saw the film of thealien autopsy that came out in

the past five years or so.

LMH: The [alien] with the six fingers and six toes [oneach hand and foot]?

Stein: Yes, six fingers and toes. The film showed theoperating room and they were doing the autopsy. And Iremember the control panel guidance system was like ahand-guidance system on the UFO. The photographs Isaw: they used fingertip control for guidance.

LMH: You read about the hand-imprinted panels inthe 1950s?

Stein: Yes, I did. The CIA report also said there were"alien hieroglyphics".

LMH: Did the CIA report go into why the six-fingered humanoids would be inside a craft that wasallegedly made in Germany in 1938?

Stein: No, but I heard other information about theGermans, in 1917 and 1927 when they had their firstsaucer vehicle that could be flown. The Germans hadsupposedly contacted aliens at the time through twomediums they had working with them. It was the VrilSociety that worked on the original prototype model theymade and flew.

LMH: What was the Vril Society?Stein: It's a pretty old society in Germany. I believe

my grandfather belonged to it in the 1800s. We camefrom Germany and were part of the royal family overthere at that time.

Vril was a society that had different goals at differenttimes. In the 1800s, Vril was looking at variousindustrial projects and engines. In 1917, the Vril had abig meeting and decided at that time to go into alternate[sic] power sources.

LMH: Do you have any knowledge that the Vrilinspiration for the disc craft came from working directlywith the six-fingered extraterrestrials?

Stein: Yes, if I remember correctly, when Vril wasbuilding that first craft, the Vril hadone or two of the aliens that workedwith them in Germany where theyfired rockets from Peenemünde. Thedocuments I read in Washington saidthat's where the first Vril vehicle wasmade.

LMH: Has any document or sourceyou've been exposed to indicated whatthe relationship was between the six-fingered beings and our civilisationand how far back it goes?

Stein: I did not read any history likethat back in the 1950s.

LMH: Did the documents evergive any indication about theorigin of the six-fingered types?

Stein: What I read about theRoswell situation, apparentlythose six-fingered aliens weresupposed to be from two planetsorbiting Aldebaran, the biggeststar in the constellation Taurus.

LMH: If you were in the CIAand were reading reports,including one about a New Mexico crash in 1947 thatinvolved the six-fingered beings and the craft was tracedback to German construction in 1938 under thesupervision of those beings, did you ever have any first-hand knowledge about our government contactingGermans to discuss the ET issue?

Stein: No, I was very surprised at what I was readingand didn't see any other tie-ins with Germany. But, Iknow we ran across the saucers and their beings in 1948.

LMH: Where?Stein: Apparently, we [American OSS and British

MI5 and MI6] learned that the Germans in 1938 movedall the saucer crafts they had underground in Germany to

Argentina and Antarctica. In 1946–1947, the UnitedStates had a scientific mission to Antarctica underAdmiral Byrd and we had military interaction there withaliens and their saucer craft, like a mini-war. We lost allof our aircraft.

LMH: Did the document say whether the Antarcticsaucers had both Germans and six-fingered types inthem, or just the six-fingered types?

Stein: We didn't capture anything and never shotanything down, so they had no idea who was flying thesaucers, except there were references to the Nazis. Itwas after the end of World War II that we had thealtercation.

The British had come up with photographs of thesaucer craft in the 1930s, and so weknew Germany had the saucer craftwith "laser guns" on them.

Hitler actually sent out all the craftthat they had to Argentina andAntarctica, apparently to make surewhen he started WWII none of themwould be captured.

Hitler always mentioned his top-secret weapons and everyone thoughtit was the V-2 rockets. But it appearsthe V-2 rockets were only a side showto the saucer technology beingdeveloped.

LMH: But if Hitler wasdesperate to win and take over theworld, why wouldn't he have usedthose discs?

Stein: It had something to dowith those six-fingered entitiesretrieved from the 1947 crasharound Roswell.

There was another kind ofbeing, too. My boss and I took atrip to Area 51 in Nevada. ThereI saw an alien through a glasswindow, but I never went in.

LMH: Was it alive?Stein: Yes, it was alive. My boss went in and said the

being did not speak at all; it was only telepathic. Myboss said he would think of a question, but the beingwould already answer it before he even spoke thequestion out loud. The being could read my boss's mind.

LMH: What did the being look like?Stein: That one was like a typical "Grey", as they are

called today, with the large eyes and narrow, pointed chinand small nose, only ear canals without earlobes. A veryfrail, skinny type of body. The being was about 4.5 to5.0 feet [~1.4 to 1.5 metres] tall.

LMH: Do you remember the eyes?Stein: Dark; looked like it was wearing sunglasses.

LMH: This is a different description than the six-fingered ones.

Stein: Yes, the six-fingered ones looked almostlike...according to the photos I saw, they looked likesmall human beings as far as the roundness of the face[was concerned].

LMH: So you had exposure to two types of non-humans?

Stein: Yes, that would be true as far as seeingphotographs of the six-fingered ones, which was theextent of my exposure on that first type that weresupposed to have been in a New Mexico crash.

The way we got that Grey alien—and I was told there[were] some others, too—is that the saucers werecrashing. And the reason thesaucers were crashing was thatin the 1950s we came out with amuch stronger radar system forthe US Air Force bases andcontrol towers. Apparently, thestronger radar signals wereinterfering with the saucerpropulsion in some way.

After the early 1950s, maybethe aliens figured out how tocounter our radar because aftera few years they weren'tcrashing like they were.

LMH: Any information about where the spindlyGreys came from?

Stein: No, not from my CIA work.

LMH: If you went with your boss to Area 51 to lookat a 4.5-foot-tall, spindly non-human and you hadpreviously read about and seen photographs of six-fingered, more muscular, beings, wouldn't you haveasked?

Stein: Yes, I asked if this was a different type and theonly thing they said was that the Area 51 being wasdifferent from the six-fingered types. I understood thatthey had not run across more six-fingered types since acrash at Roswell.

And there were photographs from an autopsy on thesix-fingered ones that is like the one shown on televisionrecently. They showed an autopsy on one of thosebeings that had a large wound on one of its legs and Isaw that same leg damage in photos we had at themilitary base.

LMH: What years did you work for the CIA?Stein: [From] 1957 to 1960—when my four-year term

was up, because I was actually in the military and came

into the CIA operation through the back door.

LMH: What was your rank and military branch?Stein: I was a lieutenant in the US Army Signal

Corps, teaching at a southern military base.

LMH: Do you know why you had a clearance to seereports about extraterrestrials?

Stein: Originally, I had just a TOP SECRET clearancebecause I was teaching classified cryptography, radiooperations and cryptography to Signal Corps officers.Then I started teaching all the NATO officers that theywould bring over. I had European [officers], and Asiaticofficers who came from Laos and Vietnam andCambodia at that time. So, I had a TOP SECRETclearance.

My boss, Anthony Barden, was involved with theclassified Signal Corps school. He was actually in

charge of the school for themilitary, but as a civilian CIAman in charge of the militaryschool. He was in thebackground, but he was actuallyhead of the CIA for thesoutheastern United States.

Then the CIA got more andmore involved with Project BlueBook and when Anthony Bardenwas up in Washington, DC, onetime, the CIA assigned him towork on the cases that the USAir Force could not explain.

Those were the cases where the eyewitnesses were verycredible, such as state patrol officers and militaryofficers. Those cases would be sent to Anthony Barden.The only thing the public Project Blue Book kept up inWashington were the explainable cases. That's whyProject Blue Book never really had anything solid in itwhen it was cancelled.

My boss and I and our unit of a couple [of] dozen menwere seeing the real UFO photos and documentscollected from Project Blue Book and funnelled to theCIA.

LMH: By this time, 1957 to 1960, you said that theHarry S. Truman administration had already been dealingwith what they considered to be extraterrestrial beings.

Stein: Yes, they were.

LMH: Why were you involved in an investigation ofunexplained Blue Book cases when the governmentalready knew extraterrestrials were involved with ourplanet?

Stein: That's true that our government knew already,but they were trying to find out more. We had staffmembers in our unit that were going out andinterviewing eyewitnesses.

LMH: That means we really did not know what theextraterrestrials were up to?

Stein: That's absolutely true. Even Truman askedwhat the aliens were doing here: "Where do they go?Where do they come from?"

LMH: How long was that being alive and kept at Area51?

Stein: As far as I know, the being was still alive therewhen I was working for the CIA [1957–1960]. I don'tknow if he died or his species came and got him or what.

There was one report that was not very clear, but I readthat a large craft did come over Area 51 in Nevada. Therest of the report pages had been taken out, so I don'tknow what happened.

LMH: Nothing about the type ofbeings in the large craft?

Stein: No, nothing like that. Itlooked like someone had gone throughthe report and pulled all the importantdata out.

One of the reports I read said theCIA had "silenced"—they didn't say"killed"—about half a dozen peopleover a period of three to four yearsafter the Roswell crash. They hadthreatened some and "silenced" someof them, is what the report said.

LMH: Did you ever ask yourboss if there were six-fingeredbeings associated with saucercraft in Germany in 1938, prior toWorld War II? Did that mean thesix-fingered beings were helpersto Germany?

Stein: They were helpers toGermany.

LMH: Did you ever talk withyour boss about why the six-fingered beings worked withGermany and then would be retrieved in a US crash?

Stein: All I knew first-hand was a report reference tothe German round aerial ships. And I knew Germanyhad some and transported them somehow to Argentinaand Antarctica.

LMH: So, the documents you saw with your own eyesbetween 1957 to 1960 were only about the beings on aranch in New Mexico, without your remembering aspecific ranch location, only Roswell?

Stein: Yes, ranch in Roswell area.

LMH: There were photos with the documents youread?

Stein: Yes, only photographs of the six-fingered beingon an autopsy table.

LMH: When you saw those photographs and saw thereport, did you ask your boss for more information?

Stein: Basically, we were in the same boat, my bossand I. We read the same materials. We were both tryingto get more information, but weren't able to get hold ofanyone else. If someone contacts you and says "I knowthe whole story and know everything that's going on",that person would be a storyteller, a liar, because that'snot the way the CIA operates. Everybody working onthe same project gets only assignments in certain areas,so you can never say you have the entire picture.

LMH: You were in the Eisenhoweradministration?

Stein: Yes.

LMH: What is your understandingabout why there is such a strict policyof denial about an extraterrestrialpresence on this planet?

Stein: I could never figure that outmyself. It's a cover-up that started andjust can't stop, that type of thing. Ithink it all goes back to the 1930swhen the Nazis got all the saucer craftout of Germany and worked on the V-

1s and V-2s. Then it was the endof the war, followed by the crashor crashes in Roswell. Then, inearly 1947, they had the battlewith the flying saucers and whatthey termed the "Nazis" inAntarctica.

My boss's theory on the wholething was that we lost that battledown in Antarctica and lost allour airplanes, which were nocompetition for the flying saucers.We couldn't do a thing tocounteract the "laser cannons" on

the saucer craft, and the saucer craft could manoeuvre sorapidly and easily that we could not even shoot at them.

My boss and I were discussing this with some otherpeople that the Marshall Plan started about that sametime. We felt there was some contact between the Nazisand Argentina and our government at that time. We feltthat was why the Marshall Plan [was] started to re-buildEurope. We had to, in order to keep the Nazis inArgentina happy. It was almost like we won the war, butlater surrendered by paying for the war.

LMH: If we lost a lot of planes to discs with "lasercannons" that were being operated by the Nazis inconjunction with the six-fingered beings, why would that

encounter have been confined to Antarctica? Whywouldn't the Nazis and the beings have flown all over theworld in those same saucers, knocking every plane out ofthe sky and taking over anyway?

Stein: I think when this thing happened down inAntarctica that beat us so badly, the US started workingon the Marshall Plan to re-build Europe, and that wasalmost like a peace treaty: the aliens would not touchour cities if we re-built Europe.

LMH: The Marshall Plan was a capitulation to theNazis and the extraterrestrials?

Stein: Yes, I think so.

LMH: But that does not explain...ifthey had that kind of overwhelmingtechnology, why wouldn't they havesimply taken over the world anyway?

Stein: I don't know.

LMH: I don't understand whyGerman Nazis lost World War II ifthere were six-fingered extraterrestrialbeings that had technology and wereteaching the Nazis how to build theiradvanced aerial craft. Those samebeings could do whatever theywanted to on this planet. So, whydid they not move against theUnited States, England, Australia,the Allies, if they demonstrated inAntarctica they could take out ofthe sky any plane they wanted to?

Stein: I don't know.

LMH: Did you ever see anyhard text in documents between1957 to 1960 about agendas ofthe six-fingered beings or thesmaller Grey spindly ones?

Stein: No, the only reference I saw in the documentsboiled down to: "We would like to know what they arereally up to." I have seen that comment, or somethingalong those lines, dozens of times.

LMH: When did you leave the army?Stein: [In] 1960.

LMH: You left the CIA and the army at the sametime?

Stein: Yes. There were twenty-four of us in ourCIA/Army group at that time and there were new peoplecom[ing] in. What happens in the CIA is that you don'treally retire. It's like an ancient gladiator group: youdon't have to worry about old age and retirement. Myboss died in the mid-1970s. When I first got into itthrough the back door by helping him and getting a TOP

SECRET clearance, I never used my real name with theCIA. I had a cover name that I used. [T]he only reason Igot out, you might say, alive in that early time of 1960after four years is because of the name I used.

Two weeks after I got out, what the CIA was doing atthat time was they had a group that would pick upderelicts that had died downtown, near our military base,of alcoholism or overdosing on drugs. That clandestinegroup put my CIA name and others' identities on thosedead people. Then the body or bodies would becremated and the ashes scattered somewhere so no one

could dig up any body again. My CIAname and identity ended up "dead" acouple of weeks after I left. That namedied.

Of the twenty-fouur people whowere in that CIA unit, my boss died ofnatural causes and I got out, but I wasthe only one who survived out of thatgroup. The others never made it outbecause they started getting involvedwith spying in Russia and Turkey andthey were all killed.

I managed to get out through thehelp of my boss, but my wife neverknew anything about this until about

one year ago [in 1997].Everything we worked on wasclassified for thirty or thirty-fiveyears. So, by the mid-1990s, theclassifying was over and you havea lot of people now coming out,like that military officer whowrote the book [Retired US ArmyLieutenant Colonel Philip J.Corso, The Day After Roswell,1997]. Some are talking nowbecause they feel they can do itsafely. ∞

MEETING WITH AN ALIEN

In his excellent book Alien Base: Earth'sEncounters with Extraterrestrials,Timothy Good reports on British Air

Marshal Sir Peter Horsley [1921–2001],former Deputy Commander-in-Chief ofStrike Command, a war hero who flewMosquitoes against the Germans andheld one of the highest ranks in theRoyal Air Force [RAF]. He wasequerry to Her Majesty the Queen andHRH Prince Philip for seven years, andduring this time, in 1954, he had a two-hour meeting with an apparentlyextraterrestrial man in London.

Timothy Good writes...In his fascinating autobiography,

Sounds From Another Room [1997], SirPeter devotes a lengthy chapter to thesubject of UFOs, including details of hisinvestigations into sightings reported bypilots; details which he relayed to PrincePhilip, who shared his interest in the

phenomenon. Another enthusiast wasAir Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Barratt,who retired from the RAF at the end ofthe war. Barratt introduced Sir Peter toa friend of his, a General Martin, whobelieved that flying saucers wereextraterrestrial vehicles from anotherplanet whose inhabitants were trying towarn us of the perils of nuclear war. SirPeter was not convinced.

One day in 1954, General Martinphoned Sir Peter, inviting him to meet aMrs Markham that night at her Londonflat in Smith Street, Chelsea... There, ina dimly lit room, he [Sir Peter] wasintroduced to a "Mr Janus". "Withoutany preliminaries," writes Sir Peter, "MrJanus dived straight into the deep end byasking me to tell him all I knew aboutUFOs. He listened patiently. At the endI thought I might be equally as directand asked Janus what his interest was.He answered me quite simply, 'I wouldlike to meet the Duke of Edinburgh.'Somewhat taken aback, Sir Peter repliedthat this would not be easy. "I wasabout to add particularly for securityreasons but thought better of it," hewrites. "But it was here the strangeness

of it all started—the man's extraordinaryability to read my thoughts."

Asked why he wanted to meet PrincePhilip, Janus replied: "[He] is a man ofgreat vision...who believes strongly inthe proper relationship between man andnature which will prove of greatimportance in future galactic harmony… perhaps you and I can discuss thesubject first and you will be able tojudge whether I'm dangerous or not."

Sir Peter devotes 14 pages to theensuing two-hour discourse...

Per ardua ad astra("Through hardship to the stars")

Janus began by pointing out that manwas "now striving to break his earthlybonds and travel to the Moon and theplanets beyond". He continued:

"But flight to the stars is Man'sultimate dream, although knowledge ofthe vast distances involved in interstellarflight makes it appear only a dream. Yetperhaps after a hundred years orso…exploration of his own solar systemmay be complete and it is just not inMan's nature to stop there… Just astribes found other tribes and Christopher


Columbus discovered on his travelsunknown centres of ancientcivilizations, so Man in his journeysthrough the universe may findinnumerable centres of culture far moreancient than his own… He willdiscover a wealth of experiencesinfinitely more startling and beautifulthan can be imagined: an infinitevariety of agencies and forces as yetunknown; great fields of gravity andanti-gravity where objects areaccelerated across space like giant slingshots, even other universes withdifferent space and time formulae...

"Why does Man reach for the stars?His energies have never been solelydirected towards material benefits alone.From the beginning of Man's history hehas striven…towards a spirituality andgrace of which he was aware but couldnot fully comprehend. This drive toreach out beyond himself has been themotive power behind some of Man'sfinest achievements… So Maninvading space for material gain orpersonal glorification alone will gainnothing, but Man searching to enrich hisown spirituality and nature will comecloser to understanding that God isUniversal."

A Dark Age"The Earth is going through a Dark

Age at the moment," Janus went on."Material possessions count more than aMan's soul. Like a child, Man ispreoccupied with his technological toys,which he believes will bring him richesand happiness. This shows up in thesuperficiality of his culture and acareless disregard for nature. In hisgreedy quest for more complexmachines Man is prepared to sacrificealmost anything—his naturalenvironment, animals and even hisfellow humans. The dreadful spectre ofblowing up his world hardly makes himfalter in this headlong rush."

CosmogonyJanus expounded on cosmogony—the

origin of life in the universe—seeminglylending support to the so-called "BigBang" theory, which he referred to as"the generally accepted theory" of anexpanding universe that "originatedfrom the giant explosion of a vast areaof high density gas which contained allthe elements necessary for life andmatter".

"If you accept this theory," he wenton, "then all galaxies contain theelements necessary for life and matter;even at the very boundaries of theexpansion, the original explosion is stilldistributing these elements… If youaccept the theory of the expandinguniverse you accept that it is an ocean ofgalaxies with solar and planetarysystems similar to our own. By the lawsof probability there must be millions ofplanets in the universe supporting life,and within our own galaxy thousandssupporting life more advanced than onEarth.

"Earth is a young planet with its Sun ayoung mother. We may hazard a guessthat other planets in [this] solar systemare unlikely to support life except inpossibly rudimentary cellular form andare no more than uninhabited and hostileislands. But imagine a galactic solarsystem somewhere in space withconditions similar to Earth except thatits Sun is in the autumn of its life.

Provided its inhabitants have survivedwars and alien invasion, it is impossibleto imagine what super-technology andcultural advancement they havereached..."

A PredictionJanus predicted correctly that

"perhaps in twenty years' time mannedrockets will be commonplace and theEarth will be girdled by satellites of allsorts and sizes", and that there would be"great strides in the miniaturization ofall our present technology, advances innavigational guidance andcommunication over vast distances".

Non-InterferenceWhy then were aliens coming here? "The answer is that this traffic is only

a thin trickle in the vast highways of theuniverse," explained Janus. "The Earthafter all is a galactic backwater inhabitedby only half-civilized men, dangerouseven to their neighbours...

"Most of these vehicles are robot-controlled space probes monitoringwhat is going on. Some are manned inorder to oversee the whole programmeand to ensure the probes do not land orcrash by accident. They must alsoensure that evidence of their existence iskept away from the vast majority ofEarth's population. You must be well

aware of the damage which your ownexplorers have done by appearing andliving among simple tribes, oftenleading to a complete disintegration oftheir society and culture... Such impactis far too indigestible and only the mostdeveloped societies can cope with suchcontact... The basic principle ofresponsible space exploration is that youdo not interfere with the naturaldevelopment and order of life in theuniverse any more than you shouldupset or destroy an ant heap or bee-hive... You will have to grow a lot olderand learn how to behave on your ownplanet, if indeed you do not blowyourselves up between times, beforeyou are ready for galactic travel."

The Observers"Since time immemorial," Janus

continued, "there have been tales ofvessels coming out of the sky bringingstrange visitors. Observers do comeamong you and make contact on a veryselective basis where they judge thatsuch contact could not harm either party.

"These observers have studied Earthfor a long time. With advanced medicalscience they have been fitted with theright sort of internal equipment to allowtheir bodies to operate normally untilthey leave. It is not very difficult toobtain the right sort of clothes andmeans to move around quite freely...The observers are not interested ininterfering in your affairs, but once youare ready to escape from your own solarsystem it is of paramount importancethat you have learned yourresponsibilities for the preservation oflife everywhere... While you are still faraway from travelling in deep space,such contacts will be infrequent andmust be conducted with great secrecy...

"The observers have very highlydeveloped mental powers, includingextra-sensory, thought reading, hypnosisand the ability to use differentdimensions...and rely solely on theirspecial powers to look after themselves.They make contact only with selectedpeople where secrecy can bemaintained. In the loosely-knit societies

of the Westernw o r l d ,particularly inEngland andAmerica, it isfairly easy withthe help offriends to do thisbut not in policeand dictatorstates."

The discourseended. Sir Peterbade Mr Janusfarewell, sayingthat he wouldg i v econsideration tothe request tomeet PrincePhilip. ∞

ASTRONOMERS AND UFO SIGHTINGS

There are times when any of us mayhappen to see something unusual inthe sky. It may be an exceptionally

bright meteor, perhaps leaving a trail hangingin the sky before it gradually fades anddisappears. If we are even more lucky, wemay see a fireball-type object trailing sparksas satellite debris re-enters the atmosphere.Sometimes a bright star will seem to appearwhere no star should be, only for us to realisethat it is a satellite briefly reflecting the rays ofthe setting Sun before the light disappearsagain, perhaps after just a few seconds. Thereis usually an explanation for everything wemay see, but there could be other, much moremysterious objects up there, as sometimesreported, and far more difficult to explain.

It is sometimes claimed thatastronomers never see UFOs and that,for this reason, such objects cannotpossibly exist as truly unexplainedevents. After all, astronomers mustspend more time looking at the sky thananyone else, so if there is anything in thesky which should not be there theywould surely be aware of it. Butastronomers, of course, do not alwayshave a wide view of the sky. A

telescope eyepiece only provides anarrow-angle view, and of a very smallfraction of the sky.

Astronomers do, however, sometimessee UFOs—although what may bereported or discussed in public is not thesame as what may be admitted in moreguarded statements.

In 1976, over a thousand members ofthe American Astronomical Societywere asked in a survey if they hadexperienced any UFO-typeobservations. A small but significantnumber, amounting to about five percent of the members, responded thatthey had in fact seen an object whichthey were unable to explain and whichthey would classify as a UFO.

Sightings by astronomersThere have been several noted reports

from astronomers and fromobservatories.

As far back as 1949, Dr ClydeTombaugh, famous for his discovery ofPluto in 1930, was at his home in NewMexico with other members of hisfamily when they saw a very strangeobject in the sky. He was so astonishedand concerned that he reported thematter to the FBI, on the understandingthat details would not be revealed to thepublic. Later, the astronomer did notreveal other sightings of unknownobjects when he found that details of theearlier incident had been released.

Another astronomer who experiencedan unexplained sighting was Dr H. P.Wilkins, a highly respected observer andan authority on the subject of the lunarsurface. It was in 1954, during a lecturetour of the United States, that he sawthree unknown objects while travellingby air over West Virginia. The objectswere oval and well defined, and movedagainst the wind direction. Two of theobjects moved slowly, while the thirdone dived quickly behind the clouds.

In 1976, an incident was reportedfrom Gáldar in the Canary Islands,involving astronomers at the MonteIzane Astrophysical Observatory. The

driver and passenger in a car saw anobject a few feet above the ground asthey rounded a curve in the road. Theobject was spherical and seemedtransparent, with what looked like tallfigures inside it. The car radio failedsuddenly. Three astronomers at theobservatory described the object as abrilliant sphere with a swirling centre. Itapproached the observatory beforemaking a 90-degree turn, moving awayat speed. The astronomers could notexplain the object, which was seen fromthe observatory for several minutes andby other eyewitnesses near Gáldar forup to half an hour.

During a scientific conference at theShemakha Observatory at Baku on theCaspian Sea coast in October 1999,scientists including astrophysicistsobserved a large disc-shaped objectwhich was overhead for severalminutes. The object was also recordedon videotape. Following a study of theresults, the scientists were reported to beunanimous in concluding that the objectwas not of terrestrial origin and couldnot be explained in terms of any knownatmospheric phenomenon.

Research and reportingReports of UFOs are on a worldwide

basis, with many reliable accountscoming from aircraft pilots, police

officers and military personnel. Thereports are helping to build up a patternwith a degree of consistency. Many ofthe best cases do not involve just visualsightings but instances of objectsinteracting with the environment,producing apparent effects on vehicle,aircraft and radar-tracking systems andleaving physical traces.

In 1997, a team was set up byProfessor Peter Sturrock of StanfordUniversity, a leading science researchcentre in the United States, to conduct ascientific review of UFO evidence. Theteam examined a sample of significantUFO cases and concluded that thesubject deserved more serious scientificstudy.

When it comes to media reporting, theUFO subject is usually ignored—exceptwhen it comes to a more significantreport which may not always be dealtwith in a serious way.

Then, of course, there are thedebunkers. These are people who donot study the evidence carefully toarrive at a reasonable explanation, butprefer any seemingly easy answerregardless of the evidence. In this way,you can have a daylight sightingexplained as a magnified image of theplanet Jupiter or Venus being putforward to explain almost anything.

It is well known that many scientists

do not have an open-minded approachto subjects which do not conform withpresent thinking or with currentlyaccepted scientific theory.

Adrian Berry, science correspondentof the Daily Telegraph for many years,has admitted that scientists in generalare infuriated by paranormal eventsincluding UFOs. In an article in thenewspaper in November 1990, he statedthat these subjects are "resentedbecause, if confirmed, the whole fabricof science would be threatened".

So now we know why most scientistsdo not wish to look honestly at reportedevents which do not fit the acceptedpattern, but prefer to guard presentlyknown theory for as long as possible.This seems a pity, as it does not help toadvance knowledge into new areaswhich must surely exist. Scientistsmust, of course, exercise caution wherereputations may be at stake. However, itwould be unwise of them to feelsatisfied that there are no majordiscoveries yet to be made in the naturalworld or in the universe around us.

Speculation on intelligent lifeGiven that UFOs may well exist as a

truly unexplained phenomenon, as theevidence seems to confirm, what couldthey be and where do they come from?

Not long ago it was thought that our

solar system was probably unique, butsince around 1995 evidence has beenfound that there are many stars whichseem to have planetary companions.The existence of these other solarsystems is indicated mainly by theobserved gravitational effects on theparent star. It would take a verypowerful telescope to see any of theseplanets directly.

It is quite possible, even assuming themost pessimistic chances, that intelligentlife does exist elsewhere in the universe,but we are told that faster-than-lighttravel is impossible.

Knowing how much has beendiscovered by and achieved in science,with manned flights and space researchin the past century, how much more maybe considered possible and achievable inthe more distant future—or may alreadybe available to any civilisations moreadvanced than ourselves?

It should not be assumed that theorigin of any UFOs must necessarily beextraterrestrial. Although it is of coursea possibility to be considered, there isalso intriguing evidence in many of thereports of links with other reportedparanormal events, which may provideanother explanation. For those who areprepared to study the evidence, it isapparent that genuine unexplainedevents exist.

The scientific panel in 1997 was, forexample, impressed in particular withUFO cases involving effects onelectrical systems. Reported vehicleinterference effects are a major part ofthe many "high strangeness" cases, andit is in these that the most significantclues will be found. Although manycase reports remain unobtainable inspite of Freedom of Informationlegislation, there is ample materialavailable to assist investigation of thesubject.

The search for evidence and for moredefinitive answers will continue. Whereexactly UFOs come from may beneither here nor there and perhaps in asomewhat different direction—but ifanyone says that astronomers never seeUFOs, don't believe them. ∞

In his analysis, Prof. Bauer looks athow HIV does not act like a transmittedinfection, and how the prevalence of false-positive tests may indicate some level ofsample contamination. He notes thatHIV-positive results are not specific toHIV, and that HIV infection does notnecessarily result in illness.

Prof. Bauer's interest in scientific"unorthodoxies" took him on a path that'sshown how the medical-scientificestablishment is often wrong on majormatters; e.g., contrary to conventionalwisdom it's now accepted that bacteriacause stomach ulcers. So it stands to

reason that some caution be applied so asto learn from the errors of history.

Long-time activists Wenonah Hauter andMark Worth joined forces for thiscomprehensive study that overturns themisinformation campaigns of irradiation'svested interests and stimulates debate onthe scientific data as well as the politicaland economic aspects. From analysis of clues in carved stone atNewgrange and placement of four "stationstones" at Stonehenge, Wun deduced thata "golden rule" governs the monuments'design, marking out a "sacred angle" of135 degrees that aids the tapping andcontainment of Earth energies. Eachmonument housed two conical devicesthat generated rows of "megalights" to thequartz-rich bluestones which served as dry-cell batteries. These beams energised thestones to produce microwave power.

The visiting extraterrestrials, whom hesuggests have been using Earth as a waystation for 5,000 years, set up thesepower plants in the British Isles, Europeand across the Atlantic in the Maya lands.The sacred angle permeates all thesedesigns, and can even be seen in today'scrop circles, most of which appear near

megalithic sites like Avebury, SilburyHill and Stonehenge. Interestingly,microwaves have been recorded withinthese circles and "megalights" have alsobeen seen in their making.

In The Egypt Code, Robert Bauvaldevelops "the Orion correlation theory"

(OCT) that he put forward in The OrionMystery (1994, co-written with AdrianGilbert). Bauval proposes that the slowprecessional cycle is also reflected inchanges in the designs and orientations ofpyramids and temples along the NileValley over a 3,000-year time frame. Asan engineer, Bauval has a grounded, farfrom "new age", approach that addsastronomy to Egyptology's scope.

The world is not running out of oil, andChina and India are not exhaustingsupplies; rather, says Norman, we'reseeing economic warfare waged by the USnational security establishment. the research and developmentdepartment of the Jägerstab (FighterStaff) (there was some co-operationwith the Luftwaffe), and anexperimental station to test the controlsystem of the new flying craft and itsinfluence on humans (mentallydisabled children), directed byProfessor Hubertus Strughold. Therewas the Riese underground complexnear Wüstegiersdorf, built under amassive mountain, the Eulengebirge,site of a giant former coal mine, andother facilities. All of these werelocated within a radius of just over 10kilometres and had the SS code-name"Sonderbauvorhaben S-III" (SpecialBuilding Project SIII). It was beyondany normal classification.

Recently, in the Bundesarchiv(German Federal Archive) in Berlin, Imanaged to find a document signed bySS-Gruppenführer Kammler whichconfirms very clearly that the projectwas the most important undertaking of

the SS. After all, we know from theaccount of Minister Speer that in 1944the Riese complex alone (a smallfraction of the entireSonderbauvorhaben S-III) "consumedmore steel and concrete than could beused to build anti-aircraft shelters forthe civilian population in the entireReich"—and one has to rememberthat, in this year, anti-aircraft shelterswere built, even in small cities, innumbers that are hard to imagine.

If we combine the S-III with otherprojects in the protectorate, we havean undertaking that employed (withthe Gross-Rosen prisoners) well over60,000 people—something that seemsto be on an equivalent scale to theAmerican Manhattan Project.

From my perspective, however, theproject is much more important forquite another reason. Its achievementsmay potentially enable us tounderstand the technology crucial forthe future: a completely differentapproach to gravity—the "gateway tothe stars". ∞
