Governor Patrick and Members of the Texas Senate: We are writing you today to express our strong support for the property tax and business relief efforts contained in Senate Bill 1, SJR 1, Senate Bill 7 and Senate Bill 8. The passage of these bills will total nearly $4.6 billion in savings to hard working Texans. Well-funded and vocal opposition to these measures show little regard for homeowners who are crippled under our current property tax system. Or for any business, especially small businesses, who are working within a tax system that stifles business expansion and economic opportunities. Furthermore, in objecting to these tax relief measures the opposition boldly state lawmakers should protect infrastructure and special interests needs first: If there is any money left over, it is appropriate to consider tax relief.” While we support long-term infrastructure needs in Texas, we feel it is time to put home owners and business interests at the forefront of any public policy debate and not as a trickle down afterthought. Senate Bill 1 will give property owners significant tax reductions and SJR 1 will prevent future legislatures from creating a barrier to homeownership and small business expansion. Moreover, Senate Bills 7 and 8 will reduce or eliminate the tax burden for many businesses, primarily small businesses, which need the tax relief the most. All of the measures contained in these tax-relief bills will ensure Texas remains a great place to own a home and do business. DESCRIPTION

Back in late March, NFIB-Texas joined Realtors and eight other groups to endorse the Texas Senate's tax-cut plan. On May 18, though, NFIB-Texas had the audacity to tweet "Correction @RobertTGarrett we are neutral & stand w/ @TPPF @TexasAFP 2 End Margin Tax http://bit.ly/DearFranchise ." Have they switched from "for" Senate package to "neutral?" Did they announce the switch? Were we supposed to know this telepathically?

The Honorable Dan Patrick, Lt. Governor

    Members of the Texas Senate

    P.O. Box 12068

    Austin, Texas 78711

Dear Lt. Governor Patrick and Members of the Texas Senate:

We are writing you today to express our strong support for the property tax and business relief

efforts contained in Senate Bill 1, SJR 1, Senate Bill 7 and Senate Bill 8. The passage of these

bills will total nearly $4.6 billion in savings to hard working Texans.

Well-funded and vocal opposition to these measures show little regard for homeowners who are

crippled under our current property tax system. Or for any business, especially small businesses,

who are working within a tax system that stifles business expansion and economic opportunities.

Furthermore, in objecting to these tax relief measures the opposition boldly state lawmakers

should protect infrastructure and special interests needs first: If there is any money left over, it is appropriate to consider tax relief.

While we support long-term infrastructure needs in Texas, we feel it is time to put home owners

and business interests at the forefront of any public policy debate and not as a trickle down

    afterthought.

Senate Bill 1 will give property owners significant tax reductions and SJR 1 will prevent future legislatures from creating a barrier to homeownership and small business expansion. Moreover,

Senate Bills 7 and 8 will reduce or eliminate the tax burden for many businesses, primarily small

businesses, which need the tax relief the most.

All of the measures contained in these tax-relief bills will ensure Texas remains a great place to

own a home and do business.

    Sincerely:

Travis Kessler, Texas Association of REALTORS
