THE Committee have peculiar plea~ure in Jaying before tbe numerous friends of tbe Society, tbe present report, "' it evinces tbe improvement and utility of the Institution in a very striking manner. .

The Society, at the last annivNS8ry, ap-. peared to be in an improving way, and its friends 80 sensible of ii, their subscriptions were unusually liberal, in order to liquidate tbe claims on tbe Society, and place its funds in advance, but sucb bas been the inclemency of tbe past winter, tbe extreme scarcity of the principal necessaries of lite, and the unhealtby state of tbe community, tbeir benevolent intention bas, in some degree, been rendererl ineffectual, by the increased and prolonged calls upon it. Tbe Committee had, however, the .atisfaction \0 find .exertion increase with the pressure of tbe season, and have to express its thanks to the Miniaters of the respective establishments, "ho, with the utmost readiness, exerted their abilitiea in behalf of the suffering poor. .

The present state of the account, the Committee trulli will be· considered favorable, beariag in miud tbe astonishing price of bread and tour, dllring tbe winter (which more than doubled· the expenditure of those articles) and the opence ofa passage for Mr. Marshall, a School. master, \0 succeed Mr. Brake, who declined cootiDuing longer than October next: With the lllaries as usual, calculated up to tbe 20th of Oetober next, the Society appears to be "8i. 7 •• 4d. in debt, from which may be de-
