The Business Professionals of America (BPA) chapter at Atlantic Technical College and Technical High School recently returned from the BPA State Leadership Conference in Orlando with 49 mem-bers earning the distinction of qualifying for National Competition in their technical events!

Hallandale High’s Business Professionals of America Chapter also participated in State Competi-tions February 13-15, 2015 in Orlando. The students did well taking home trophies in many catego-ries including Advanced Interview Skills, Presentation Management, Advance Spreadsheet Applica-tions Desktop Publishing, Financial Math and Analysis, just to mention a few.

In addition, members learn many business skills by participating in multiple fund raising events throughout the year to support their members’ attendance at state and national conferences.

Congratulations to all the BPA members in Broward County! Good luck as they now prepare for the BPA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California this May!

Since the fall of 2010, Fort Lauderdale High School’s Com-munications Technology stu-dents have achieved hundreds of Adobe industry certifications. Each year, as part of the celebra-tory process, every new Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) is in-vited to place their handprint on the Walls of Fame in the Comm. Tech Lab.

After the finger paint has dried, students write their name, grad-

uation year and exam(s) passed directly on their handprint. Brian Carlton, the instructor, smiled and said “of course” when asked if students enjoy leaving their mark on the school. “Occasionally graduates and stu-dents unable to complete the program because of schedul-ing conflicts, return to visit their handprint and they al-ways reminisce about earning the ACA, how much they learned and what fun the

class was.” Carlton states, “It reminds me how important it is to keep this public record of suc-cess. For many it’s there first and only time they were asked to write their name on a school wall for an honorable purpose.”

AOF students stock market experi-ence and industry certification.

Aria Mootiram from Taravella High School stated, “I thought I knew about stocks and how they work, but that seems to be just the tip of the iceberg. The experts to-day let us in on just how vast the stock market is, and getting Bloomberg certified is a great op-portunity.”

Academy of Finance students from JP Taravella and Stoneman Douglas High Schools travelled to Florida International University to become Bloomberg Certified at the 14 special Bloomberg terminals located in the State Farm Lab. In a two hour training, students learned about the Bloomberg Terminal and how a Bloomberg Certification can benefit them in the future. The Deerfield Beach High School Academy of Finance (AOF) program was se-lected by the President of the National Academy Foundation (NAF), JD Hoye, which oversees our Academy of Finance program to be a part of the JPMorgan Chase Finance Skills Index. Last month Mr. Frank Pizzo sub-mitted a proposal to participate in an exclusive grant to pilot how financial skills could be incorporated into all NAF classes throughout the United States. NAF selected five schools to participate and Deerfield Beach High School was selected as the only school from the State of Florida! Over the next three months this program will be participating in an effort to incorporate these initiatives into the academy. In addition, JP Morgan Chase will be providing a grant to obtain resources to implement these initiatives.

The Academy of Finance (AOF) program at Deerfield Beach High School. hopes to increase the number of finance and accounting honors classes next school year to four classes, plus offer a finance internship, class.
