Administrative Information

(A) Pre-registration

  You are required to verify and update your personal particulars through the online pre-registration system; http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/event/registration.html at least oneweek prior to your scheduled arrival at NUS.

  To login to the Pre-Registration System  link, you are required to use the User ID and

Password which you will receive in two separate emails, via your personal email address. 

  If, for any reasons, you are unable to complete the online pre-registration, you can still doso when you arrive at the Registration Centre personally.

(B) Registration

  The Registration Centre is located at the NUS Multi-Purpose Sports Hall 1, Sports andRecreation Centre. Please refer to the campus map for the exact location athttp://www.nus.edu.sg/campusmap/.A copy of the map is also available in this guide.

Please note that these Forms are downloadable from the Pre-Registration System and have tobe duly completed, signed and submitted on Registration Day in order for you to be successfullyregistered as a student. If you are below 18 years of age, please note that your parent/guardianis required to fill in and sign Forms 1, 2 and 3 on your behalf.   If you are an international student, you are encouraged to attend the International

Student Orientation Talk conducted by the Office of Student Affairs. The talk will provideuseful information & tips to help in adjusting to life in NUS & Singapore in general.

D) Module Registration

  You are strongly advised to check the class & examination schedules for all the modules youare reading or intend to read and ensure there are no clashes in your class/examinationschedules.

  You can check the details of all the modules offeredat the Integrated Virtual Learning Environment

(IVLE) portal https://ivle.nus.edu.sg/ 

  To access the IVLE, please use your NUS UserIDand Password. Choose “NUSSTU” as the domain

name and click “Login”. Click on “Search” (at thetop menu bar on right side of the screen).

  Register for the modules according to the period asshown:

-  In each round, you can only submit ONE request & a maximum of 5modules per request.

be able to be offered any during themodule add/drop period.

To add and drop Law modules, please complete a prescribed form, which can be obtained atthe Faculty of Law Reception Counter, Level 1, Eu Tong Sen Building, Bukit Timah Campus. Visithttp://law.nus.edu.sg/student_matters/ay1011/infoall.html for more details. 

  You are advised to check with your professor/lecturer on how you can register for tutorialand/or laboratory group (where applicable) for your module, on the first day of class.Tutorial/laboratory session usually starts in Week 3 of the semester.

  You may change status of the module(s) you have registered for (i.e. to change modulefrom examinable to audit basis) during stipulated periods. More details can be found at thefollowing link: http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/edu/ng-current.html#modulesadmin 

  After you have successfully added your modules, you can create your personalized timetablevia https://webrb.nus.edu.sg/ctt/builder.aspx. 

  You can view the modules you have successfully added and access the course materials for

your registered modules through IVLE.

  You may wish to know that you can check the IVLE website for details of the briefingsessions on how to use the portal, which are specially conducted for new students.

(E) Student Email ID and Student Card

  Please keep your NUS Email ID password strictly confidential. Apart from being able toaccess computer facilities and specific buildings/laboratories, and booking of sports facilitiesetc, your password can also be used to access your examination results at the end of eachsemester.

  Should you forget your password, you can seek help by sending an email [email protected], stating your full name, student number and attach a scanned image of 

your student card.

(F) Update Contact Information

  Please note that all correspondence from the University will be sent to your mailingaddress (as updated in myISIS: https://myisis.nus.edu.sg/) or your official NUS studentemail address. It is important that you keep your contact information updated and readyour emails frequently. The University will not be held responsible if you do not receive anyimportant correspondence.

  The University may be required to contact the next-of-kin of students in the event of a crisisor emergency. Therefore, having ready information on the next-of-kin is part of our effortsin ensuring that the University is ready to deal with such a situation.

(G) University Rules & Regulations

  As a student of the University, you must comply with the Statutes and Regulations, and therequirements of the Senate in the exercise of its authority. You should behave honourablyand endeavour to maintain and enhance the good name of the University at all times. TheUniversity will not accept a plea of ignorance as an excuse for a breach of any rule. Moredetails at http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/adminpolicy/statutes.html.

In ternational Students Information

(A) Student Pass Application

  All international students admitted as non-graduating studentsmust have a valid student pass during the period of study at NUS.Admission is contingent upon successful application of studentpass. If you are eventually not successful in your student passapplication, your admission offer will be withdrawn and you will notbe able to embark on or continue your studies at NUS.

  NUS Registrar’s Office will facilitate your student pass applicationvia the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA)Online Application & Registration (SOLAR) System

Student Pass

NUS Registrar’s Office, via email, to confirm your details via SOLAR system before thestudent pass application can be processed. If application is approved, ICA shall grant you anIn-Principle Approval (IPA) letter. For those students coming from visa-required countries,

the IPA letter will be emailed and/or sent to your mailing address. You can use the IPA letteras a permit to enter Singapore. 

  After you have completed your Registration procedures at NUS, your IPA letter will be  stamped. You are advised to read the IPA letter carefully and get the required documents /

items ready for submission to ICA to convert your social visit pass to student pass.

  If you are not issued with an IPA letter, you would not be able to apply for a student pass

and your admission offer will be withdrawn. Therefore it is important for you to take theaction promptly when you receive notification to access the SOLAR system to verify yourdetails.

  If you register during the official registration period (see Page 2), you may report to thedesignated ICA counter located in the Registration Centre to complete the formalities. Theapplication must be made in person as your digital thumbprint will be collected.

  If you register outside of the official registration period, you must make an appointment toreport in person at ICA Office, 4th

 

Storey, ICA Building to complete the student passapplication formalities. You would need to refer to the IPA letter for specific instructions onhow to do so.

  To further strengthen the control of communicable diseases like Human Immunodeficiency

Virus (HIV) infection and Tuberculosis in Singapore, with effect from 1 March 2000, allinternational students who apply for the student pass for 6 months and above wouldhave to undergo and pass a medical examination conducted by a qualified medicalpractitioner either in Singapore or in their home country, which must include the following:

(i)  a general physical medical examination(ii)  a chest x-ray(iii)  a test for HIV

  Those who opt to do the medical examination in Singapore can do so at the UniversityHealth Centre (UHC), which is located at 20 Lower Kent Ridge Road. The medicalpractitioner must record and certify the results of the medical examination conducted oneach applicant using the official medical report form given by ICA. The report must be in

English. A medical report in any other form or format will not be accepted. One form is to beused for each applicant.

  The original radiologist report on the chest x-ray and the laboratory report on the HIV testmust be attached to the completed medical report when applying for the relevantimmigration pass. Please note that the reports must not be issued more than 3 months priorto the date of submission to ICA.

  Non-graduating international students are required to take up at least 12 MCs worth of modules per semester or pursue full-time research in order to qualify as a full-time studentand be issued with a student pass.

(D) Meet-n-Greet Service

  Students who have received confirmed NUS housing will be informed of the Meet-n-GreetService available to them. The information of the service will be forwarded to them by theOSA Residential Services. Enquiries may be sent to [email protected]

Financial Matters

  Fees are to be paid before a stipulated deadline, failing which a late fee would be imposed.Please refer to the Office of Financial Services website for information on the paymentdeadline as well as mode of payment:http://www.nus.edu.sg/finance/students/financialServices/notice/index.htm.

  If you are admitted as an Exchange  student, you are required to pay the MandatoryMiscellaneous Fee (see table below for breakdown).

Health & Travel Insurance

  Every full-time student is required to purchase the University’s Health andInsurance Scheme. The Scheme comprises 3 components:

•  Personal Accident Insurance Coverage•  Hospitalization, Surgical & Mental Health Insurance Scheme•  Outpatient Specialist Care

  Students are also advised to purchase additional travel insurance to cover items such asaccidents, lost luggage or trip cancellation that may occur during the trip to and from

Singapore.

Resources and Facilities

(A) Library

  A copy of the “Guide to NUS Libraries” can be obtained from any of the NUS Libraries. Besure to get a copy and read it, paying special attention to the section on “Library Rules ata Glance”. Please also note copyright matters with respect to photocopying of librarymaterials as spelt out in the full set of Library Rules. Visit http://www.lib.nus.edu.sg/ formore information and news.

(B) Computer and IT

  Students who receive the student cards at the Registration Centre can make use of thecomputer facilities with effect from the start of the semester.

  To facilitate the use of IT for learning and communication, the University has establisheda Secure Plug and Play environment where you can gain access to all the NUS ITresources around the clock, just by plugging the personal notebook computer to any of 

the over 14,000 plug-and-play points distributed all over the campus, such as in thestudy rooms, open lobby areas, corridors, canteens, etc. You can also access theWinZone wireless LAN services on campus.
