WELDING & CUTTING SAFETY
Safety ExcellenceSafety Excellence
TYPES OF WELDING
• GAS WELDING –Uses gas flame over metals until molten puddle is formed. In this method, an inert gas will be used together with electricity current. For example Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) for welding of copper, brass and stainless steel.
• ARC WELDING – Two metals are joined by generating an electric arc between a covered metal electrode and the base metal like welding iron sheets.
• OXYGEN / (ACETILENE/PROPANE CUTTING ) – Metal cutting in welding is the severing or removal of metal by a flame or arc.

WELDING HAZARDS
– Electrocution
– Cut & Penetration
– Falling from height
– Skin burn
– Fire & Explosion
– Back & shoulder strain
– Fumes
– Light radiation ( UV, IR )

NON-IONIZING RADIATION
Welding produces non-ionizing radiation including Ultra Violet (UV) and Infra Red (IR).

Looking or exposing directly to the welding arc can hurt eyes which effects include:
– Heating of the body– Skin injury– Injury to eyes
(Cataracts)

PRTOTECTION AGAINST WELDING ARC
• Avoid being exposed to welding arc by wearing long sleeve shirts and long leather gloves.
• Never look directly to the welding arc, use suitable shield.
• Use a proper filter.

• Flame-resistant gloves, such as leather welder’s gloves, are needed to provide heat resistance.
• Other protective clothing would include durable, flame-resistant aprons to provide protection to the front of the body.

ABRASIVE WHEELS
BEFORE START WORKING WITH ABRASIVE WHEELS:
Safety ExcellenceSafety Excellence
This is the ideal for Grinding!
Safety ExcellenceSafety Excellence
Never! remove the guard!
Safety ExcellenceSafety Excellence
ABRASIVE WHEELS
• Ensure that the protective guard is in place.• Leave abrasive wheel on the ground, then plug it on.• You should know safe work practices.
Safety ExcellenceSafety Excellence
Do not exert heavy pressure on the wheel.Do not exert heavy pressure on the wheel.
Or this
WILL happen!

POSTURE
• Place work piece at an optimal height to avoid back strain or shoulder fatigue.
• Avoid stretching out, adjust your work piece.
