The Next Evolution
Most gas-charged accumulators are actuated by dry, compressed air, which can present a number of challenges for operators. Sys-tems age with use and time; leaks are common, and if proper maintenance is not performed the air could contain an excessive amount of hydrocarbons. A hydraulic system leaking air poten-tially laden with hydrocarbons into areas that may contain haz-ardous gases can dangerously alter the local fuel/air mixture and create flammable or explosive atmospheres. Moreover, air that is not properly treated post-compression can carry moisture into the accumulators. Wet air can foul hydraulic fluids, degrading system responsiveness and performance. Additionally, the pres-ence of moisture within the accumulator gas increases the proba-bility for internal corrosion of critical components, and endangers the integrity of the accumulator itself. For these and other rea-sons, more operators are turning to nitrogen as the actuating gas for their hydro-pneumatic systems.
High pressure nitrogen provides a number of advantages for op-erators of hydro-pneumatic systems:
1. It is essentially inert. While reactive under unusual conditions, nitrogen largely resists combining with other elements under normal operating conditions. This makes it ideal for use in explosive atmospheres.
2. It is inherently dry. Nitrogen is by nature a dry gas, with dew points often -60 F or better. And because of its inert na-ture, nitrogen effectively displaces other elements within an enclosed space under normal operating conditions.
3. It is readily available. Most offshore drilling vessels now have a nitrogen generation system onboard for various applications.
As a world-class supplier of nitrogen solutions for the oil and gas market, we continue to look for novel and innovative ways to support operators on a global scale. Our RigForce compressor series is energy efficient and designed for continuous operation in the harshest of offshore environments. Available for both air and nitrogen service as needed, RigForce is compact and reliable with the lowest cost of ownership in the industry. Additionally, our nitrogen generation systems can both create point-of-use ni-trogen at purities up to 99.5% and compress the generated gas to process pressures as needed.
As the needs of operators change, we will continue to evolve and develop new solutions.
Evolve with us.

Vertical Design for Minimum Footprint
BENEFITSImproved Rig SafetyNitrogen is an inert gas. It is therefore inherently much safer to operate high pressure equipment such as rig tensioners, motion compensators and blow-out preventers with compressed nitrogen rather than compressed air.
Compact FootprintBAUERs unique EVO9-NK screw compressor design coupled with ultra-high-efficiency nitrogen membranes delivers high performance in an extremely small footprint; and is therefore suitable for rig retrofits and conversions from air to nitrogen.
Robust Build for Offshore EnvironmentsAll BAUER NGM systems are designed to operate continuously under severe offshore conditions in high salt, high temperature and high humidity environments. Special 3 coat marine spec paint with offshore surface preparation is standard.
