MEMORANDUM FOR: Shoreline Mapping Contractor

FROM: Captain Jonathan W. Bailey, NOAA, Chief, Remote Sensing Division

SUBJECT: State of Georgia Shoreline Mapping Project Instructions

This document is the Project Instructions for Project GA0301, Wassaw Island to Jekyll Islandin the state of Georgia.

1.0 General: These Project Instructions contain project specific information for a shorelinemapping project and take precedence over the “Scope of Work, Shoreline Mapping forthe Coastal Mapping Program” (SOW), Version 12, dated February 15, 2002. All partsof the SOW not mentioned in these Project Instructions remain in effect.

1.1 Introduction: This project is being undertaken to provide digital shoreline for NOAAnautical charts and other uses. Note, all nautical charts referred to in this document areNOAA nautical charts.

1.2 Coverage: The project includes the ocean shoreline, the Intra-Coastal Waterway (ICW),river and creek banks and all marsh areas within the project area. The project areaextends from near the southerly end of Wassaw Island to the northern end of JekyllIsland.

The project limits are: NE 80° 55' W 31° 53' NNW 81° 19' W 31° 53' NSE 81° 15' W 31° 03' NSW 81° 35' W 31° 03' N

These limits are for the purpose of finding the area in which aerial imagery andcompilation are to take place. Imagery acquisition and map compilation are not requiredwithin the entire boxed area. See the accompanying marked-up copies of nautical charts11506, 11508, 11510, & 11511 to see which shoreline is required and the back limit ofcompilation in marsh areas where that limit differs from the SOW requirement of 2000feet from the waterline. The charts also show the different levels of horizontal accuracyrequired for the compilation effort.

Also enclosed is one blank set of nautical charts covering the project area.

1.3 Scope: This project, GA0301, will be divided into two phases. The first phase willinclude planning, aerial photography, and ground control surveys. The second phase
