The Native Hawaiian Student Pathway to Medicine (NHSPM) is a program of the NativeHawaiian Center of Excellence (NHCOE) at the University of Hawaii John A. BurnsSchool of Medicine (UH-JABSOM), Department of Native Hawaiian Health. TheNHSPM program provides support to Native Hawaiian students on their path to becomingphysicians. The curriculum consists of an MCAT prep course, workshops, and individualadvising/career counseling to individuals who demonstrate potential to be competitiveapplicants to medical school. The program will be offered in Honolulu (UH-JABSOMKakaako Campus) and Hilo (UH-Hilo Campus). Up to 10 participants will be selected foreach site and will receive the following:
Kaplan Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) Prep Courseo Content reviewo Test preparation methodso Course materialso Diagnostic tests
Workshop Series (Including topics such as):o Navigating the medical school application processo Interview Skills/Mock Interview: Stand Tall & Shine
o Intro to Problem Based Learning (PBL) in Medical Schoolo Learning Skills & Strategies
Individualized Advisingo Discuss your medical school application strategyo Review your personal statemento Review your application, grades, MCAT scoreso Receive assistance with clinical shadowing opportunities
REQUIREMENTS: Selected participants must commit to completing the Kaplan MCAT prep course,
participating in all workshops, and scheduling individualized advising
appointments.
Participant will pay $100 of the total fee for their Kaplan MCAT prep course. Theprogram will cover the rest of the cost at the group rate of $1,499.00 per person.

ELIGIBILITY: Native Hawaiian ancestry
Pre-med Student: Applying to University of Hawaii John A. Burns School ofMedicine (UH-JABSOM) to enter medical school in July 2012 or July 2013
College Junior or Senior (in UH system) by Spring 2011. College graduates fromany institution (with Bachelors degree or higher) are welcome to apply.
Completed at least 3 of the following pre-requisite subjects for taking the MCAT(2 semesters per subject with labs):
o Biologyo General Chemistryo Organic Chemistryo Physics
