The Rainbow Badge initiativewas rolled out to make apositive difference by promoting a message of inclusion.
A recent Stonewall survey(published November 2018)stated that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender(LGBT+) patients face inequalities in their experience of NHS healthcare. The survey estimates that one in fiveLGBT+ people are not out toany healthcare professionalabout their sexual orientation when seekinggeneral medical care, andone in seven LGBT+ peoplehave avoided treatment forfear of discrimination.
We believe that people whowork in healthcare can playa key role in making thingsbetter.
To begin to increase awareness of these issues, and to help improve the experiences of healthcare forLBGT+ patients, our staffwear NHS rainbow badges.
To apply for a RainbowBadge Please contact the EDITeam at [email protected]

We celebrate the incrediblediversity of the population ofCambridgeshire and the significant benefits culturaland ethnic diversity brings tothe county, and particularlyto the local NHS. The NHSWorkforce Race EqualityStandard (WRES) was devised to ensure employeesfrom black and minority ethnic (BME) backgroundshave equal access to career opportunities and receivefair treatment in the workplace.
The implementation of theWRES will make tacklingrace equality a priority forthe NHS and for the Trust. It allows organisations tofocus on a number of areasincluding BME representation at seniormanagement and Boardlevel and the experience ofBME staff in the employeerelations process and NHSStaff Survey.
The WRES is a tool to systematically identify gapsbetween BME and whitestaff experiences in the workplace.

The purpose of an EqualityImpact Assessment is to ensure that our services, policies and practices do notdirectly, indirectly, intentionally or unintentionally discriminateagainst our staff and serviceusers.
Where a negative impact isfound, we will mitigate theimpact through the development and implementation of equalityimprovement plans.Undertaking an Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) enables us to consider theimpact of each current andproposed service, policy, procedure or function, notonly with regard to ethnicity, disability, age and sex, butalso in relation to religionand belief, sexual orientation, and humanrights.
It is designed to ensure that‘due regard’ is given toequality in relation to ourservice users and the manner in which we recruit, train and develop our staff.
