The IWCS Feasibility Study (FS) will address the IWCS Operable Unit (OU) including the residues and other waste materials placed inside the IWCS by the Department of Energy during previous remedial efforts.

The Balance of Plant FS will address the Balance of Plant OU including all site soils, surface/subsurface features outside the IWCS and remaining IWCS soils and structures should all residues and waste be removed. Soil removal options will be based on a specific cleanup criteria.

The Groundwater FS will address the Groundwater OU including any remaining groundwater contamination associated with the Upper Water-Bearing Zone after remedy selection for the IWCS and Balance of Plant OUs.

Alternatives being considered:

1.Source removal with ground water treatment

2.Reactive barriers 3.Containment 4.No further action with site controls and maintenance

7.No action (required)

Alternatives being considered:

1.Complete removal with off-site disposal 2.Partial removal with land use controls and off-site disposal

3.Complete removal with on-site disposal 4.Partial removal with on-site disposal

5.No further action with site controls and maintenance

7.No action (required)

Alternatives being considered:

1.Removal of the entire IWCS contents with off-site

disposal 2.Removal of all residues, except the R-10 pile, with off-site removal 3.Removal of K-65 residues with off-site disposal

4.Removal of residues with placement in new on-site,

long-term storage facility 5.Limited action—enhance the current IWCS

6.No further action with site controls and maintenance

7.No action (required)

Generalized Cross-section of IWCS

These areas would be included in the Balance of Plant Operable Unit only if all wastes are removed from the IWCS.
