    The National Investment Banking Conference and Competition 2011 is one of the nations

    largest and most prestigious investment banking conferences in Canada. As a delegate,

    you will take part in a plethora of stimulating events from spectacular keynotes delivered

    by leading industry professionals, to workshop sessions, an interactive trading simulation,

    a live final round of the competition, the gala dinner, networking events and more!

    With the conference fast approaching, the Organizing Committee would like you to make

    preference indications for the Trading Simulation and several workshop selection choices.

    The Trading Simulation by MDA Training is taking place on the first day of the conference

    and is set to provide you with a greater appreciation and understanding of investmentbanking, sales, trading, and research. This engaging and challenging simulation requires

    students to take on a role of a sales person, trader, market maker, client or researcher.

    We would like for you to rank in order of preference which role you would be most

    interested in playing.

    The Corporate Finance and Capital Markets Workshop Series will be held on the second

    day of the conference. There will be three workshop sessions. Delegates will have to

    choose which workshop they would most like to participate in for each session. You are

    only allowed to attend one workshop per session.

    Please refer to the detailed descriptions of the roles and the workshops in the following

    pages. Read the information thoroughly then follow the link to the Selection Form. It is

    mandatory for you to fill out the form completely by the 11th

    of Januaryand well do our

    best to accommodate your preferences and to maximize your experience at NIBC.

    CHECK IN & REGISTRATION

    Registration will begin at 2:00pm on January 13, 2010.

    When you arrive at the Pan Pacific Hotel Vancouver (300-999 Canada Place), follow

    the NIBC signs and guidance from our team to make your way to the registration

    centre. There, you will receive your nametag and delegate bag.

    If you are an external delegate who has arranged for accommodation with us,

    please try to arrive at noon in order to have sufficient time to check in at the

    reception desk and to receive your room assignment. Also, one person from the

    room must provide a credit card to cover incidentals such as room service andmovies, which will not be covered by NIBC.

    The Opening Keynote Speech by Paul Donnelly, Chief Executive Officer of Macquarie

    Capital Markets Canada will begin at 2:30pm sharp.

    Canada Ltd. Paul joined

    Macquarie in 1995 and has been

    President and Chief Executive

    Officer of Macquarie CapitalMarkets Canada since December

    2007. Since joining Macquarie,

    Pauls focus has been on

    complex ECM and M&A

    transactions for clients across all

    sectors. Paul led some of

    Australias most complex and

    innovative IPOs and advised on

    more than 50 capital structuring

    transactions including hybridsecurities and share buybacks

    playing a large part in the

    development of the Australian

    hybrid market. Paul has also

    advised governments and special

    committees in the UK, Hungary

    and Australia on privatisations

    and asset sales.

    Morning Keynote Speaker

    Kathy Butler is a Managing

    Director in CIBC World Markets

    Vancouver Investment Banking

    Group. She joined CIBC World

    Markets in Toronto in 1996 and

    has been involved in a number ofprivate and public financings, as

    well as advisory mandates. Kathy

    holds an MBA (Honours) from

    the Rotman School of

    Management and a Bachelor of

    Commerce in Finance (Honours)

    from the University of British

    Columbia. Ms. Butler is on the

    Board of Directors of Atira

    Womens Resource Society andis a Partner of BC Social Venture

    Partners.

    Gala Dinner Keynote Speaker

    Don Lindsay joined Teck Cominco

    Limited as President in January

    2005, was appointed to the

    Board in February 2005 and was

    appointed Chief Executive

    Officer in April 2005. He is agraduate of Queens University

    (B.Sc., Hons.) and Harvard

    Business School (M.B.A.). Since

    2008 he has been Chairman of

    International Zinc Association.

    Mr. Lindsay was employed by

    CIBC World Markets Inc.

    (investment banking) from 1985

    to 2004 where he was Presidentof CIBC World Markets Inc., Head

    of Investment and Corporate

    Banking and Head of the Asia

    Pacific Region.

    The MDA trading simulation is 3 hours of challenging simulation that provides participants

    with a greater appreciation and understanding of investment banking, sales, trading, and

    research. Participants will be assigned to one of the following roles: Sales, Traders,

    Market Makers and Researches and will get hands on experience in: planning trading

    strategies, executing trades, analyzing financial information and running meetings.

    The participants assigned as traders,

    market makers, buy-side clients, and

    sales people will be responsible for the

    following simulation tasks:

    Planning trading strategies Trading Building sell-side / buy-side client

    relationships

    Deciding on what research morningmeetings (if any) to attend

    Attending research morningmeetings

    Requesting news analysis fromresearch

    The participants assigned as researchers

    provide valuable analysis of specific

    stocks that are traded in the simulation.

    Research staff will be:

    Analyzing financial information Analyzing news items Promoting and running morning

    Charging traders for morningmeeting attendance and/or news

    Corporate Finance and

    Capital Markets Workshop Series

    Session 1

    Going Public The IPO Process

    This workshop will introduce students to the process of listing a private

    company on the stock market. It is designed as a practitioners guide to

    the IPO process and will cover the preparation, execution, and marketing

    components of taking a company public. Discussion will revolve around

    using a real-world example to understand the logistical steps taken to

    execute an IPO from an investment banking perspective.

    Presented by

    Equity Research

    This workshop will equip students with essential tools to write a research

    report. It will provide an overview of equity research and skills of a

    successful Research Associate. Through real life examples, delegates are

    expected to learn the technicalities of the field and how to better prepare

    for a career in research.

    Valuation Methodologies

    This workshop will introduce students to the common valuation

    methodologies utilized by investment banks. Using practical examples,

    the workshop will examine in detail the concepts of comparable

    company analysis, precedent transaction analysis, and discounted cash

    flow modeling, along with the benefits and pitfalls of each approach.

    Session 2

    M&A Trends

    This workshop will introduce students to the concept of mergers and

    acquisitions. It will uncover the major reasons for M&A activity and discussreal-world examples to understand the logistical steps taken to execute

    mergers and acquisitions from an investment banking perspective.

    Presented by

    Equity Modeling

    This workshop will further evaluate the fundamentals of equity modeling.

    Emphasis will be given to the development of financial models using

    discounted cash flows.

    Learn How They Succeeded

    This workshop will be presented by a junior professional who started a

    career in the financial industry. She will share his/her experience during the

    recruitment process and at work. Students will gain insights on career

    alternatives and opportunities available to them

    Session 3

    Private Equity Panel

    This panel will have experienced private equity representatives discussing

    their views on the industry, key trends and challenges, and careers in this

    field. The discussion will also provide attendees with insights into the role

    private equity can play in the financial markets, both privately and publicly.

    The panel is expected to be interactive with a moderator asking questions at

    the beginning of the session and students having the opportunity to ask

    questions and comment during the Q&A session.

    Credit Crisis & Recovery for Investment Banks

    This workshop will discuss the state of recovery since the credit crunch of

    2006. Issues such as the effects of the credit crisis on employment and on

    investment banks, the stability of the recovery, and factors currently

    threatening the recovery will be talked about in detail.

    1. Follow the Canada Line to sign to the YVR-Airport Station.
