Elegant, joyful, agile, and capable of extraordinary effort,
the hummingbird that dresses the logo of French Tech Côte d’Azur
symbolizes the strength of this collective.
If the national rooster, proud and determined national symbol of France,
evokes teamwork, the hummingbird which accompanies it, azure blue,
carries the values of the Côte d’Azur.
Captivating in its agility, its capacity to react quickly,
and its capability for grand achievements through the use of collective strength,
this mythical bird symbolizes regeneration.
Attached to the beauty and the aesthetic of the places in which it lives,
it represents as well their elegance and joie de vivre.

INTRODUCTION French Tech: A label rewarding an outstanding digital industry to grow further on the Côte d'Azur
The Côte d’Azur digital
stakeholders have
mobilized and obtained
the “French Tech
Metropolis” label to
accelerate the growth of
tech champions in Côte
d'Azur and attract
further digital talents
into the region.
What is “La French Tech? “ France is a country of talent, of inventors. It is fortunate to have creative and highly educated entrepreneurs.
“La French Tech” refers to all the people working for or with French startups, in France or abroad.
This ecosystem is made up of entrepreneurs, obviously, but also investors, engineers, designers, developers, associations, bloggers, media, big companies, and government agencies… All the players who are working towards startups’ growth and international promotion.
The French Tech initiative Launched by the French government, the French Tech initiative aims at turning France into a large accelerator for startups. It has triggered a collective momentum and awarded the “French Tech” label to a small number of vibrant local ecosystems where startups, investors, and foreign talents can easily find the necessary ingredients to accelerate their development. These are outstanding metropolises and international hubs where further initiatives will help successful French startups grow into international ‘tech champions’, and attract foreign startups as well as skilled digital professionals. > en.lafrenchtech.com
French Tech Côte d'Azur Entrepreneurs and other stakeholders in Nice, Sophia Antipolis, Cannes and Grasse have decided to build a common project, and obtained the “French Tech Metropolis” label in June, 2015.

ASSETS AND PROFILE
A powerful, balanced, and
dynamic digital industry With the strength of
more than 1,700
companies, nearly
22,000 employees, and 4
billion euros in revenue,
the Côte d’Azur’s IT cluster is
one of Europe’s high-tech
locomotives thanks to its
strong technological
foundation covering the three
major fields of ICT.
The Côte d’Azur, alongside Munich, is one of only two regions in Europe with a balanced critical mass at its disposal of high-value added technology companies at the international level in the three major fields in ICT – semiconductors, telecom- munications, and software.
Critical mass and
dynamism
1,710 companies, of which 104 are foreign-owned and employ one third of the workforce, generate more than 4 billion euros in revenue, 55% of which is in exports. Initially based on the strong presence of research labs and
R&D centers belonging to large groups from France and abroad, the concentration of talents empowered the creation of spin-offs and the development of remarkable startups.

THE AMBITION of French Tech Côte d'Azur
Together, boosting the growth and
influence of the digital industry
The Côte d’Azur’s
digital community,
whose momentum has
been boosted and
reinforced by the
French Tech project,
has engaged itself in a
process of reflection
and has set in motion
essential initiatives to
ensure the
optimization of its
SME support
programs, the
organization of
appropriate work
spaces, and the
international
exposure of future
tech champions.
All together
The French Tech Côte d’Azur in i t iat ive accelerated and improved the d ia logue between a l l o f the actors o f the reg ion’s d ig i ta l cha in.
Companies and entre- preneurs have entered into a dynamic, open dialogue with the public actors on the best strategy and methods to implement in order to support the growth of the digital sector. This dynamic permits joining together in a regional project to initiate a profound evolution of the digital sector, its concerns, and its promises.
# 50 new startups eligible each year for a three year acceleration process
# 10 new tech champions obtaining international influence within 10 years
# Promote an international community momentum
Accelerate the
growth of the
digital industry
The Côte d’Azur’s aims at two strategic objectives:
# Balance its growth – which up to now has been largely supported by the attraction of MNCs - thanks to the endogenous development of companies that capitalize on the existing ecosystem to grow and project themselves abroad.
# Support its technological upgrade in the fields of modeling and simulation of complex systems and big data.
This requires precise mapping of the regional initiatives, resources, and projects, as well as the networking of actors and the optimization of acceleration programs, including in the international realm.
Objectives

The first half of 2015 saw the launch of the first class of the Allianz Accelerator and the first edition of Huwai Digital in-Pulse competition in Nice. A new project was born: the Village Crédit Agricole. Other operations have combined mentorship, entrepreneurship competitions, and immersion abroad.
Dedicated to big data, IoT, and connected stadiums, the Allianz accelerator opened in March 2015 within the Allianz Rivera stadium in Nice. It selected in May 50 startups that will benefit for 5 months from the support of leading investors, including Bpifrance & Idinvest Partners, as well as the guidance of experts and mentors. They may also be offered a strategic partnership with Allianz to test their solutions abroad, thanks to the presence of the group in 70 countries.
The European project e-Plus Ecosystem, launched on the Côte d’Azur by CCI Nice Côte d'Azur, targets startups based in the Côte d'Azur as well as in Bade Wurtenberg (Germany) and Porto (Portugal).
The Village of Innovation by Crédit Agricole on the Côte d’Azur will be turned toward smart cities and housing, e-health, IoT, durable environment, energy transition, agriculture, and biotechnologies.
In a space of 1,500 sqm, the companies will benefit from full guidance accompanied by financing. The implantation study is in progress, the call to the project is planned for November, 2015, and the inauguration of The Village in 2016.
On May 24, 2015, the Silicon Valley Camp took 10 startups from the Côte d'Azur to California for immersion in Silicon Valley. On the program were workshops, coaching and networking, visits to the headquarters of Google, Adobe, Apple, and Facebook, and meetings with investors and potential technology partners.
The companies were followed for six months by the students of the Young Entrepreneur School and the event’s expert partners: Sophia Business Angels, Cabinet Vaughan, MIDI Capital, FTCAE, CCI etc.
Digital in-Pulse is Huawei’s national innovation competition in the domains of IoT, security, and smart buildings. The second edition, organized in Nice on June 4th as part of French Tech Côte d’Azur, permitted winners to share €200,000 and participate in the Great China French Tech Acceleratech1 organized by Business France in November 2015 for a week of immersion in China to meet innovative Chinese actors in the ICT sector.
For the 2nd time on the Côte d’Azur, the European Innovation Academy was hosted in Nice from July 6-24, 2015. Throughout 15 days, more than 500 students, 100 mentors (Google, Amadeus, Samsung), and 50 professors (Oxford Stanford, UC Berkeley, London Business School, MIT) visited from around the world.
An accelerator of a new genre of entrepreneurial competition, it allowed winners to be integrated in an acceleration program for 2 months in Silicon Valley.
19
19
[ACTION 3] Reinforce the
