Renowned American artist Nick Cave will present his performance HEARD·BRISBANE 2016 taking place in December and presented by QAGOMA. HEARD·BRISBANE 2016 is a major performance work for inclusion in exhibition entitled ‘Sugar Spin: You, me, art and everything’ at Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane, Australia opening on 3 December 2016 and closing on 17 April 2017. ‘Sugar Spin’ is the major, free exhibition headlining the Gallery of Modern Art’s tenth anniversary celebrations this year. The performance work will be a major feature of the exhibition which will also draw from across the Gallery’s holdings of contemporary art. Playful and seductive ‘Sugar Spin’ will bring moments of joy and dizziness together with a deeper sense of unease. It will reflect the beauty of the world we live in, as well as the complex challenges of these turbulent times. The exhibition will occupy three quarters of the Gallery of Modern Art building, the largest contemporary art space in Australia, and its opening will coincide with the building’s 10th birthday. HEARD·BRISBANE 2016, is a dynamic, site-specific performance, involving 60 local dancers and musicians animating the elaborate ‘soundsuits’ made by American artist Nick Cave. HEARD·BRISBANE 2016 is a choreographed performance involving 30 life-sized horse suits, each of which is inhabited by 2 dancers at a time. The suits are constructed from coloured raffia and found materials and produce a distinctive sound when activated.
