International Nidovirus SymposiumOver the past 30 years, the International Nidovirus Symposium has been held as a triennial event gathering scientists all over the world to discuss every aspects of nidovirology study. The Nido2017 symposium is unique in bringing scientists together to discuss nidovirus research, including eight plenary and two poster sessions covering topics in both basic and applied sciences. A special session with members of the ICTV (International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses) coronavirus study group and ICTV arterivirus study group will discuss recent issues related to nidovirus classification and nomenclature. New for Nido2017 symposium, a workshop entitled “Translating NidoResearch into Field Applications” will be held to engage the academic experts with industry professionals for development of nidovirus diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics.

About Kansas State UniversityThe Nido2017 is organized through the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Kansas State University. The University was founded in 1863, and has been evolved into a modern institution of higher education. The CVM is dedicated to scholarship through innovation and excellence in teaching, research, and service to promote animal and human health. In 2009, the United State Department of Homeland Security selected Manhattan, Kansas as the location for the National Bio and Agro-defense Facility (NBAF), which is being built adjacent to the main campus of K-State, in close proximity to the CVM, the Biosecurity Research Institute, and the USDA Agricultural Research Services Arthropod-Borne Animal Disease Research Unit. In association with Kansas City Animal Health Corridor, NBAF transforms Kansas State University into an animal health consortium with governmental and private sector partners located in Kansas and surrounding regions.

Kansas City Kansas City is the most centrally located city in the United States, which is within a three-hour flight or less than a day’s drive to either coast for more than 55 million people. Known for the phenomenal jazz and blues venues, Kansas City area also boasts major league sports, world-renowned museums and historic sites, and championship golf courses. The region from Manhattan, Kansas to Columbia, Missouri anchors the Kansas City Animal Health Corridor, which is home to more than 300 animal health companies, the largest concentration in the world.

The Marriott Downtown hotel is situated in the heart of Kansas City’s $7 billion downtown renaissance, anchored with nine blocks of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment that starts only steps away from the Hotel’s front doors. It is the closest downtown hotel to Kansas City International Airport, and is only two-hour driving distance away from Kansas State University.

TravelAirport/Airport Shuttle: The Kansas City International Airport (MCI) is consistently ranked as one of the user-friendliest airports in the nation, known for its easy terminal access, minimal flight delays, and lack of congestion. All major US carriers serve MCI, with more than 475 daily flights with nonstop service to more than 50 destinations in the US, Mexico, and Canada. International flights and connections are easy to access. The airport is only 18 miles from the Marriott hotel, and operates a hotel shuttle that is currently $33.00 round trip per passenger ($18.00 one-way).

City Transportation: Kansas City operates the Metro Area Express rapid transit system (The MAX) that provides shuttle service between the Kansas City Marriott Downtown and most of the city’s other favorite attractions, including the Crossroads Arts District, Union Station and the Liberty Memorial, the Government District, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, UMKC, and the shops of the Country Club Plaza. Currently, The MAX operates from 5am – 1am daily, at a cost of only $1.50 per ride.

Accommodations Marriott hotel has 946 spacious guest rooms and 37 luxurious suites, all equipped with the new Marriott Revive bedding package.
