How long have you been using the Single Window?
The Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS) has been developed and deployed in 2009 as a platform for Single Window Operations.
• ASYCUDA 2.7 version deployed in 1999.
• Migrated to ASYCUDA++ in 2006.
•NICIS developed and deployed in 2009.

DIFFICULTIES IN IMPLEMENTING SINGLE WINDOW

•Lack of existing Legal Framework for the smooth implementation of the Single Window.
• Coverage of Large area of telecommunication networking customs formations spread across Nigeria, that has an area of about 926,000sq kilometres .
• Lack of regular power supply affects the implementation and operation of the Single Window as generators are deployed most of the times.
• The effect of weather where strong winds deflect antennas on masts and thick clouds that break satellite transmission.

WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST COSTS?

• Installation and maintenance of the telecommunication equipment.
• Running cost of generators with fluctuating prices of diesel.
WHAT TYPE OF TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE IS RECEIVED/NEEDED
• Nigeria Customs Service did not receive any technical assistance in the development of the Single Window platform. All the costs were borne by the government.
• Technical support needed to build capacity in the IT unit to further enhance effective management of the system.
