Anas ibn Malik reported: Abdur Rahman ibn Awf married a woman and he gave her the weight of a date stone in gold as a dowry. When the Prophet, peaceand blessings be upon him, no�ced the signs of happiness on his face, he asked him about it and Abdur Rahman said, “Indeed, I have married a woman and
I have given her the weight of a date stone in gold.”

For a man of means it is meritorious/highly desirable to give a gi� equivalent to 500 Dirhams to his bride. (Al lu lu wal mirjan 316:12)
Do not take woman by force, nor take back bridal gi� without a valid reason and live with them in kindness. (Quran 4:19)

And give the woman [upon Marriage] their [bridal] gi�s graciously. But if they give up willingly to you anything of it, then take it in sa�sfac�on and ease.
