RUALO.

This magazine holds a collection of small interviews that

give you an insight into sneaker fans. The craze that has

been rising for years is now at it’s peak, everybody owns some

kind of sneaker whether it’s limited edition or vintage.

The interviews are with real life sneaker heads that are from all

over the world. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them for

taking time out of their day to be interviewed and that they kindly

shared some of their photography with us. Thank you for reading JUICE

magazine. No sneakers were harmed in the making of this magazine.

My name is Etienne I live in Paris,

France and I bought my rst pair ofsneakers in San Francisco aproximate-ly 2 years ago in a little shop in

Haight-ashbury.. actually I bought two

pairs at the same time (haha) whichwere the Air Jordan Retro 7 “Bordeaux”

and the Air Jordan Retro 6 “Motor-

sports”. The second one is pretty hardto nd, I saw one once at OPIUM storein Paris for 500€ so... It was a good

cop. :)

I have always liked having many pairand even when I was younger, I always

had like 3 or 4 pairs at home. I usedto buy Nikes but no limited edition

like now, only pairs that were easy

to nd at any Footlocker. And one dayI heard about Jordans, I knew that it

existed but was not able to put thisamount of money in a pair of sneakers

at this time. But I started to learn

numbers and History of the differentRetros (as you may know Jordans col-

lectors are mostly intrested in Retros

(Mostly from AJ1 to .. AJ11-AJ13)) andI discover the Jordan 5 and this remainmy favorite pair of Jordan today I have

something like 15 pairs of Jordan 5lol. So I think this pair made me lovesneakers or at least it made me want

to own a pair. Actually I bought my

rst pair of Jordan 5 when I came backfrom SF, it was the AJ5 “QUAI 54”. Thefunny thing is that I was looking forthis pair in the US but it worth like

600$ there.. and I gured out it only

released in France so it was way less

expensive here lol.

As I said, my all time favorite Jordan

is the Jordan 5. 2013 was the 23thanniversary of the Jordan 5 which rstreleased in 1990, so they releasedmany colorways of the pair at this oc-casion in 2013. I bought all of them(only those which released in Europebecause US got exclusive release...).

But Jordans are just a part of thesneaker culture and they are main-

ly appreciated in the US. In Europepeople are most interested in Runners

like Air Max 1’s, Air Max 90’s, oreven brand like Adidas, New Balance,

Asics, Saucony... which are not very

popular in the US. and I have to saythat the Jordans and basketball shoes

in general are getting more and more

expensive. So for now I have to say

that my all time favorite sneaker isthe Air Max 1... just above the AirMax 90. These pairs were respectivelydesign in 1987 and 1990 by legendary

Thinker Hateld (who has design manyJordans too) and the air Max 1 was thesrt pair ever to featur a visible air

unit. This design has been inspired byLe Centre George Pompidou in France(because we see the foundations of thebuilding and it shows what we normally

can’t see).

My name is Chris Adrian Labe

Jison and I’m 22 years old. Ilike food, especially chick-

en and well, anything that

looks tasty really and I

like trainers too, some might

say I’m addicted to it but I

don’t really think so becauseI can stop buying them when-ever I want to, just not yet.

I am also a 3rd year Graph -ic Design student at Mid-

dlesex University, over the

past two to three years Iwas fortunate enough to makea lot of friends from dif-ferent cultures and ethnici-

ty’s, people from differentbackgrounds and people whowent through different paths

to get to where they are.

I was born and raised in the

south of Philippines I came toEngland at the age of twelve.

From what I can remember the

rst sneaker that I reallyliked was a pair of reebokkamikaze that was handed down

to me by my older brother, I

used it for everything I did, basketball, walking my dog

and even to school. I cant

exactly remember when I gothooked on collecting sneak-

ers, but what I can remember

is that one day I was clearing

my room and realised about 70-80% of my stuff was trainers.

I also noticed that I was be-

ing told off more than I useto about the shoe deliveries

that was arriving at my door-

steps. My favourite sneaker ofall time would be the Jordan1banned or the royal blue, its

something I’ve always wanted

since I was young and will

continue to buy them when-

ever they are re-released.

From: Worcester, MA, USA

First Pair of sneakers:Nike Blazer High U Tat-too Red/Black the shoes

that started my love for

sneakers.

When I started lov-ing sneakers was in 8th

grade. I’m in 12th graderight now so in 2009-2010is when I started.

How? Back then I had afriend. Always had ashyshoes. A good amount of

shoes for an almost month-

ly rotation. Those shoesthat I keep seeing every-day from his feet made me

started to be more fondof them. I love the wayit looks, the material,

and the way how it makes

an outt pop out. The wayhow it wears in. I just

really love sneakers.

My favorite sneaker ofall time has to be Roy-

al 1. I love the color

block. Black and blue.

That’s a simple blockingright there. And it looks

absolutely beautiful when

it’s worn out too. Makesit look vintage.

1. Willing To Camp Out Days

In Advance of sneaker ReleaseTo some this notion may soundquite ridiculous but to a sneakerhead it is simply routine. Some

sneakers have become so sought

after yet so limited in quantitythat sneaker addicts are willing

to camp out days in advance to get

the opportunity to purchase them.Rain, sleet, or snow has never

pushed back a sneaker releaseand it certainly has no effecton those camps out lines neither.

2. Prioritizes Paying for

sneakers Before Rent/Mort-gage, Bills, Gas, Food, Etc.

If you’re contemplating or haveever contemplated forgoing your

rent for the newest Jeremy ScottAdidas’ then you probably won’thave an apartment to house all

those sneakers much longer.

Quite simply the cost of sneak-ers should never supersede anypriorities you have or you’ll

end up homeless and hungry. ButI bet you got them jays though!

3. Has more sneak-

ers Than Clothes In ClosetNow it’s not terrible to have

a variety of sneakers but when

all you have to wear with all

those sneakers is the same tired

outt then it becomes a prob-lem. Your closet should have

some type of balance to it. Youdon’t wont the reputation of kidwith all the nice sneakers and

the one dingy white tee right?

This too can easily be corrected.

4. Spends More Money On sneak-ers Than Gifts For Family/Lover In this day in age parents andgirlfriends around the world aremore aware of the price of the

popular sneakers. So basicallyyou can’t expect to get the wholefamily $20 gift cards to Starbucksfor Christmas when you’re walking

around in those $180 ChristmasLeBron 8 sneakers. Nor can youget your girlfriend one of those

$30 Wal-Mart tennis braceletsand not expect her to raise hellwhen you go to purchase those$250+ Air Yeezy’s. That’s the

quickest way to end up lonely.

5. Has 100s of sneakers And

No Means Of TransportationFor one, if you’re catching thebus to go to a sneaker release

then you already have a problem.

With the high cost of sneakersnowadays you could easily forgo10 pairs to save for a cheap ve -

hicle. Hell you could get a bike

for the cost of 3 pairs nowa-days. Or you could remain tolook silly while walking every-

where in shoes valued at $500.

My name is Arthur Holmes and

I’m 24 years old. I was bornin Zimbabwe and raised there

for 14 years before comingto England. The rst pair ofsneakers I owned was a pairof white Reebok G-unit sneak-

ers. I remember I purchasedthem from footlocker when theyrst came out, my friends and Iwere big G-unit fans and when

the sneakers came out we all

went crazy and the populari-ty inuenced me to cop a pair.

I cant exactly pin point themoment that I rst discoveredmy love for sneakers, I justrealized one day that I had a

large collection of sneakers

and still felt compelled tobuy more that appealed to me.

My favourite all time pair ofsneakers has to be my Air Max1’s, these are the most comfypair of sneakers and I real-

ly like the range of differ-ent colours they come out in.
