A personal timeline of educational technology

Overview

My name is Nikki Kinoshita

I started school in 1989 in Kahului, Maui

I graduated from high school in 2002 in Kahului, Maui

I first went to college at Maui Community College in 2002

When I finish my degree, I hope to become professional facilitator of technology

My definition of educational technology

• Having the ability to keep seeking, gaining and learning the theories and methods of a constantly changing technological world; integrating many technology tools to help educate others

Kindergarten technology

We used a DOS system in the classroom, to play a game called “Word Munchers”

• A few years later, we used Apple computers.

High school technology

- Instructors had those Apple computers in the classroom

- Yearbook and Video classes we had these CPU’s

College technology

- In 2002, at Maui Community College students used these computers

- In 2009, Information Computer Science classrooms received these computers for students to use.

Overall, I learned how to use Adobe programs (Photoshop,

Flash, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign)

Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint)

Database management (SQL, Visual Studio)

A vivid technology learning experience

• Video and voice chatting, having the ability to see up to 4 live video chatting of individuals

A technology I want to use in my classroom

• No need for tables or desks! Desk computer notebook (all in one)

My vision of the classroom of the future

• Hewlett Packard - TouchSmart

A challenge for teaching

• Money - will always be the biggest challenge• Technology - always changing, challenging to

keep others up with it
