・ Set the 0-position of“Adjusting focus stand for APS (J15327)”as follows:

1. Replace the white acrylic plate of the above stand (J15327) with the new one(J15327A).

2. Install the FFD spacer (J15327H) to the micro stand.

3. Align the upper surface of the white acrylic plate of the Adjusting focus stand (J 15327H) with the mirror

reflecting surface. Press the reset button of the Adjusting focus stand, and set the 0-position. 

Note: Because the mirror reflecting surface is easily damaged, carefully align with it at the same

level by using the dial gauge, etc.

4. Based on the above 0-position, turn the knob of the Adjuting focus stand further to set the -2.290-mm position.

5. Press the reset button of the Adjusting focus stand again, and set the 0-position.

・ Turn the objective glass of the collimator (J19019), and

set degree to 0 (0 mm).

 After disassembling or repairing the lens unit, be sure to perform inspection.

※  When the FFD inspection/adjustment has been performed by the lens unit checking tool (J61202), the

following“(1) Operation inspection”is not necessary.

※  In the service facilities which are not equipped with the lens unit checking tool (J61202), connect the lens

barrel unit to the self-made lens barrel checking tool and perform the following“(1) Operation inspection”.

(1) Operation inspection

(a) Connect the lens barrel FPC of the lens barrel unit to the connector A (for operation inspection) with the self-

made lens barrel checking tool.

(b) Turn on the power, drive the zoom and then turn off the power. Perform this sequence of operation several

times.

(c) Perform the release operation several times to make sure that the operation is normal.

If there is no problem with the above operation inspection, remove the lens barrel unit from the self-made

lens barrel checking tool. After setting the lens barrel unit on the body, carry out the resolution inspection

as shown below.

(2) Resolution inspection

By shooting the high-definition resolution chart (J63079), confirm that the number of TV lines is within the

standard.

TV lines (standard):

1150 TV lines or more in the center; 750 TV lines or more at the periphery

(ref. The resolution is represented by“TV lines”, which are total number of black-and-white strips distinguishable

on the TV screen.)

(a) Set the camera as follows: Shooting-mode (AUTO), Image quality mode (FINE), Image size (FULL), Flash

mode (Flash cancel)

(b) Perform the inspection at the zoom position of“WIDE”,“MIDDLE”and“TELE”.

  The photographing distance: approx. 0.6m for“WIDE”, approx. 1.1m for“MIDDLE”and approx. 1.86m

for“TELE". Set the camera so that the chart may be seen on the whole of the camera’s LCD screen. Then,

fix the camera on the tripod.

(c) Open the photographed image with Photoshop. Display the image at "100%",“the size of the original”and

check it.

(d) Check the resolution at the center of frame and at its peripheral four corners as follows: check whether the

white and black can be distinguished at the four red circle points of each positions.

If one of the above (1) and (2) inspections is NG, it is necessary to replace the parts of the lens barrel unit with new

ones.

4. Initial image data writing and Firmware updates

Device

・SD card for updating the firmware: 1 pc.

[Making of the updating SD card]

1) Format the SD card by PC.

2) Make a folder named“firmware” in the root directory of the SD card.

3) Copy“firmware. bin” in the folder made in the above 2).

Perform writing the initial image data and updating firmware continuously.

※ On this model and after, the initial image data (nanddat.bin) and the product firmware are combined.

[How to rewrite] △(Addition)

1) Set the mode dial to "SET UP".

2) Insert the prepared card.

3) While pressing the central button of the multi-selector, turn camera on.

4) The updating-firmware screen is displayed. Select "YES".

5) The message that shows the completion of updating is displayed.

6) Turn camera OFF to end the procedure.

Note: When the firmware is updated without replacing the CP-1 PCB, follow the procedure shown below.

Work procedure

・Turn camera off and connect the AC adapter.

・Insert the updating SD card into the camera.

・Set the mode dial to“SETUP” and turn power on.

・Select and decide“Firmware version” to access the firmware updating menu. (Fig. 1)

(Fig.1)

・Select“Yes” and press the [OK] button to execute upgrading the firmware. (Fig. 2)

Note: Do NOT turn power off during writing.

・Turn on the power and check the version on“Firmware version” of the menu. (Fig. 4)

・Turn off the power. Updating is completed.

・When the display showing that updating of firmware is completed appears on the screen, turn off the power and take the SD card

out of the camera. (Fig. 3)

5. Setup

1) System requirements

• Windows® 98 or Me, 2000, XP

• IBM-compatible PC/AT with Pentium or higher processor 

• CD-ROM drive

• 3.5-inch 2HD diskette drive

• USB port

• 40 MB or more RAM

• Hard disk drive with 15 MB or more memory space

• VGA or SVGA monitor with 256 or more color display

2) Installing calibration software

• Insert the calibration software installation disk into the floppy disk drive.

• Open Explorer.

• Copy "DscCalDi.exe, Camapi32.dll, PTPApi32.dll" folder of the floppy disk drive in any folder on the hard disk.

6. Installing USB driver 

If the USB driver is necessary, install Nikon View via CD-ROM packed with the camera.

11. Lens adjustment

[Preparations]

• Turn the power switch of the adjustment collimator (C-DSC) J63090 to on.

• Turn the power switch of the camera to on.

[Conditions]

• Set the distance between the adjustment collimator and the camera (front surface of lens) to“Close”distance.

[How to]

• Check the LCD monitor in advance so that the center of Siemens star chart comes at the center of the camera

screen.

• Double-click on "DscCa1Di.exe".

• Click "Focus", then "Yes".

• Lens adjustment value will appear on the screen.

  Judgment standard: AF_WIDE =± 60 , AF_MID =± 60  , AF_MID2 =± 60,

  AF_TELE =± 60

• Click "OK".

12. AWB adjustment

[Preparations]

• Pattern Box(Color temperature: 3100± 20K, Luminance: 900± 20cd/m2)

[Conditions]

• Set the distance between the pattern box and camera (lens front) to "0cm".

Note) Do not allow outside light to enter in.

[How to]

• Double-click on "DscCa1Di.exe".

• Click "AWB", then "Yes".

• AWB adjustment values will appear on the screen.

  Judgment standard: CHECK=128± 2, 128± 2, 130± 40

• Click "OK".

13. CCD white dot defect compensation

[Conditions]

• With the lens shutter being closed, read the defect of CCD pixels. Then, make the correction data and rewrite the

data by the following procedure.

  Correct the upper level of defective 2000 pixels from the brightest CCD pixels..

[How to]

• Double-click on "DscCa1Di.exe".

• Select "CCD Defect" from Test menu of Calibration Software and click the "OK". Refer to FIG-1.

• After adjustment, the adjustment value will appear on the screen. Refer to FIG-2.

14. CCD black dot/white dot defect adjustment

[Conditions]

• Fix the camera so that only the white part of the pattern box should be displayed on the screen.(Do not allow outside light to enter in as much as possible.)

• With the lens shutter being opend, read the defect (black dots) of CCD pixels. Then, make the correction data and

rewrite the data by the following procedure.

  Correct the upper level of defective 30 pixels (black dots in bright place) of CCD pixels.

[How to]

• Double-click on "DscCa1Di.exe".

• Select "CCD Black" from Test menu of Calibration Software and click "OK". Refer to FIG-1.

• After adjustment, the adjustment value will appear on the screen. Refer to FIG-3.

15. USB storage information registration

USB storage data is important when the camera is connected to a computer via a USB connection.

If there are any errors in the USB storage data, or if it has not been saved, the USB specifications will not be satisfied,

so always check and save the USB storage data.

[How to]

1. Connect the camera to a computer.

2. Double-click on the "DscCa1Di.exe".

3. Click on the "Get" button in the“USB Storage”window and check the USB storage data.

4. Check the“Serial”in the above USB storage data. If the displayed value is different from the serial number

 printed on the botton of the camera, enter the number of the camera, and click the "Set" button.

the "Set" button.
