Chapter 1: netapp General Overview 7

Chapter 1: netapp General Overview

The NetApp probe uses SNMP to communicate with storage arrays. The probe transparently handles discovering local as well as remote NetApp systems using SNMP. The probe runs specific SNMP queries and extracts the important information from the devices.

The NetApp probe performs SNMP GET queries to selected NetApp devices transforming the query results into alarms and/or Quality of Service for SLA purposes. The user may configure the profile to his/her requirements in order to integrate the device seamlessly into the Nimsoft monitoring solution. The NetApp probe includes a UI to configure the probe. The probe supports SNMPv1, SNMPv2c and SNMPv3. You can configure the probe for NetApp Ontap 8.1 c-mode and 7-mode operating system.

NetApp Features:

■ Comes with a set of predefined SNMP OID templates available on most NetApp devices.

■ Supports dynamic indexing.

Notes:

■ SNMP v3 requires that your network community strings are at least 8 characters long.

■ ONTAPI requires user with administrator privileges.

■ The monitors dependent on ONTAPI are available only when ONTAPI Settings are configured. This applies to Auto Configuration node as well.

■ The "Netapp Basic Monitors" template is applied as default template for the 7-mode and "Netapp C-mode Basic Monitors" template is available as default template for the c-mode.

■ In case of upgrades, the default template is applied when the Default Templates Settings screen is opened and OK is pressed.

■ The Default Templates Settings are not retained.
