OUR FATHER IN FAITH

The Letter to the Hebrews today sings a hymn of praise to Abraham and to his faith, upon which are founded the religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Abraham is called “father” in faith by more people on earth than anybody else, numerous as the sands of the seashore or the stars of the heavens. Hebrews tells us it was this foundational faith that led Abraham to obey God’s call when he heard it, though he was called to journey to a land he did not know and told he would father a mighty race

through a marriage he thought was barren. But Abraham’s faith, the author of Hebrews tells us, was his realization of what he

hoped for, and the evidence of what he could not see. How often are we, in simple daily events of our own Christian vocation,

called to an unfamiliar place or told we are to do something we do not believe we can? How fortunate we are to have Father

Abraham as our guide and example!

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Registration for Religious Ed will take place on August 27th

and 28th after each Mass. You may also register every Thursday at the Parish Office. Religious Ed classes are slat-ed to begin on September 7th! Thank you for having your cash or check ready in advance, as we do not have the abil-

ity to charge a card. Thank you! The costs are: $25 for one student, $35 for two, or $40

for three or more. An additional fee of $25 will be charged if your child will receive the Sacrament of First Communion or $40 if your child will be Confirmed. Also, please have a copy of the Baptismal Certificate if

your child will receive a Sacrament.

SECOND COLLECTION The second collection for next weekend benefits the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA.

4th Annual Priests vs. Seminarians FUNDRAISER Soccer Match TODAY, August 7, 2016, at Marquette Stadium – 5400 W Chestnut Ave, Yakima

FATHER MAURICIO WILL BE PLAYING FOR THE PRIESTS!!

Come cheer for your favorite team as the priests and seminarians again play for the win-ning title and to raise funds to support our seminarians’ education! It currently costs approximately $52,000 per year for each young man to attend seminary training. This community event is a great way to show your support to the young men who will serve

the Diocese of Yakima in the future!

All proceeds from the sale of food, drinks and souvenir T-shirts will go to supporting seminarian education. (Please note, therefore, that no outside food or drink will be allowed.) Please join us for a fun and exciting evening! The gates open at 5 p.m. and the game begins at 6 p.m.

ALTAR SERVER MEETING There will be a meeting THIS WEDNESDAY at 6 pm, at the Church for all Acolytes. This includes those who presently serve as well as those who are interested in serving! Anyone who has received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion can serve. The meeting will end at 7:15. Father Mauricio would like to see everyone there!

In celebrating this month of Our Lady’s final journey to God in her glorious As-sumption, let us ask her motherly intercession to draw souls to the Sacred Heart of her Son. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a journey too—of conversion to God and what he intends for us. RCIA is the process by which

NUESTRO PADRE EN LA FE

La Carta a los Hebreos hoy canta un himno de alabanza a Abraham y a su fe, sobre la cual se fundan la religio n judí a, la cristiana y la mahometana. Abraham es llamado “padre” de la fe por ma s personas en el mundo que cualquier otro; numero-sas como la arena de la playa o las estrellas del cielo. La Carta a los Hebreos nos dice que esta fe firme lo impulso a obedecer el llamado de Dios cuando lo envio a buscar una tierra desco-nocida y le dijo que serí a padre de una raza poderosa, aunque consideraba su matrimonio infecundo. Pero la fe de Abraham, nos dice el autor de la Carta a los Hebreos, le permití a poseer lo que esperaba y conocer lo que no podí a ver. ¿Cua ntas veces nos vemos en simples sucesos cotidianos de nuestra vocacio n cristiana llamados a un sitio desconocido o enviados a hacer algo que no creemos poder hacer? ¡Que afortunados somos por tener a nuestro padre Abraham como nuestro guí a y

ejemplo!
